So it's the double xp and gold event and I'm on a solo sloop. I open crew to get more hands on deck to maximize income. A player joins as I'm about to unlock a vault and sure enough...player does not speak english or spanish (two of the most spoken languages in the world), does not have a mic and is unable to communicate through txt chat. Was barely responding via the pirate chat pre-sets. After not helping with the vault (running around inside playing an instrument), they then started AFK farming as I started sailing back and while turning in loot. And yes they were AFK farming for sure because they stood by the map table still as a pole, looking down and every 5-10 minutes, would switch sides of the table. What made it even worse is that when I was done turning in the loot, I couldn't do a new quest because I needed his vote. Is there anyway to set a specific server (NA-East, NA-West, Europe, etc,.) like there is in almost any online multiplayer video game or is there a report system in the works? Even setting in-game preferences like a filter would narrow down the issues.

next time use an lfg or discord or find a crew on here

I thought there were only UK servers. That explains the high ping everyone has. Not sure tho..
idk either but he should have used an lfg
@closinghare208 so the solution to in-game toxicity and language barriers should be solved using outside sources?
@connoredg LFG is NOT an outside source, it is a tool built into the Xbox ecosystem. Furthermore nothing in your example is "toxic" - aggravating, unhelpful and possible griefing (though in your example it does not really seem to be the case as he did nothing to actively hinder your progress, like dumping treasure or wrecking the ship), but most definitely not toxic.
@dlchief58 the hinderance in progress would be the inability to place a quest down as it needs two votes, getting a player on the ship who can communicate (via mic, typing) and work with. And where is the line between toxicity and actively AFK Farming? LFG is an outside source, can you access it in game? Can you put your preferences anywhere in the in-games options? You have to make a post or reach out to other people outside of the game in order to play. Would it not be simpler from a players perspective to be able to choose the server location or input those preferences in-game in order to prevent any language barrier? The language barrier=server location preferences and afk farming/toxicity/griefing=in-game report system. Most online multiplayer games have one if not both of these implemented.

no that's not what i'm saying
@connoredg
i agree that an in game LFG tool would be nice. Until it happens we are stuck with what we have. with that being said, if you decide to use Open crew I'm afraid you are just going to have to deal with this kind of thing, no way around it. but that is the joy of open crew, you never know what you will get.the only way i use open crew now is that i will start in a closed crew by myself and stock up my ship and take any quest i want to run. Only when I'm underway will i open the crew up. This has worked out well for me since whoever joins doesn't have much say in what we are doing and tends to play the role of "deck mate"
