Game crashes after black loading screen with the blue wheel icon in corner

  • Steam edition. After the 1/28 update I get to that screen and the game crashes. Cleared Steam cache, validated files, Checked win 10 updates, nvidia gfx updates, antiviro, reinstalled multiple times at different locations. Same thing.

    Now I decided to check out the windows event viewer annnnd I get this,

    The application-specific permission settings do not grant Local Activation permission for the COM Server application with CLSID
    {37399C92-DC3F-4B55-AE5B-811EE82398AD}
    and APPID
    {37399C92-DC3F-4B55-AE5B-811EE82398AD}
    to the user DESKTOP\pc SID (S-1-5-21-1614915492-165407421-1262430721-1001) from address LocalHost (Using LRPC) running in the application container Microsoft.GamingApp_2101.1002.1.0_x64__8). This security permission can be modified using the Component Services administrative tool.

    edited for length

    any ideas?

  • Seems like I have the same problem. I've spent too many hours trying to fix the game after this latest patch. Game worked flawlessly for me before that. I tried everything that was already recommended in support and reinstalled the game multiple times.

    I'm not really sure what else to try at this point.

    My friends and I played Sea of Thieves so much in the last month, it feels so weird not sailing the salty seas now.

  • @dvdoom The Steam version has had a memory leak the past couple of patches. I would run a standby list cleaner/monitor and make sure that your memory is not being exceeded. For some reason the memory is not being released and when you reach your limit, the game will crash to desktop. If you try to clear standby while the game is open, the .exe will crash to desktop so you will have to clear then relaunch the application to keep standby within acceptable limits.

    did a windows reset. Kept my files but removed all programs not microsoft default. All steam games are on separate ssd.
    Works now. But I will remember your advice for the future as I download all the programs I'm missing now, lol.

    Sadly it doesn't seem to fix the problem.
    Looks like I'll have to try the windows reset as well and redownload all the programs once again just to attempt fixing the SoT. But thank you for trying to help out!

  • Windows reset fixed most of the problem it seems.

    I kept my files but wiped out all the programs on C disk where windows and steam were before. If anyone has the same problem, be sure to make a backup of steamapps folder so you don't have to spend even more time downloading most of your games again.
    (Backup didn't work out for SoT so it had to be downloaded once more)

    The same event 10016 error ID message was still appearing in the windows event viewer so I manually fixed the permission in registry edit. It still shows up in the error list but it works. I saw some reports that it might disappear on it's own once permission is manually fixed.

    It's just a shame that there was no simpler fix that didn't require uninstaling so many programs and spending huge amount of time.

    At least I can get back to my crew and sail the salty seas! Yarrr!
