White Flag That when attacked takes away emissary level down

  • I feel like a lot of us are getting tired of pirate legends who don’t respect others peaceful time of sailing the seas and doing adventures in their short time they have. Therefore I’m proposing a white flag that basically allows people who just want to enjoy the game without being harassed by a bunch of sweaty bullies. If they for example attack a player with a white flag on, they loose gold or emissary level. But to make things fair, the user can’t raise the white flag if they have a certain amount of loot on board.

  • @l3g3ndary-drago Every player has every right to play the game as we please. A lot of us don't even sail for the loot as we are gold millionaires, we sail for the thrill of sinking ships and pvp.

A passive mode would kill this game quicker than pirates would your ship because for many being peaceful is not being a pirate and that's a pretty niche and boring way to play.

Having said that, there is a PVE megathread for this discussion.
Its a terrible discussion as it's a terrible idea but it's there to discuss PVE. Not on the suggestions part of the forum.

    Safe seas.

  • @daringclarky true, but I still think that a less confrontational option should be added to the game. Otherwise people like me will just end up making a server alliance. Which that annoys people more than having a white flag option.

  • I'm the one tired of hearing this.

A crew attacks other players: harassment, griefing, no respect, bullies, what's your problem? why are you attacking me? We are friendly...

Who is the toxic one here? The PVPr who is playing the game in a way that is allowed, or the PVEr who doesn't stop moaning and talking trash? Think about it, matey.

PVP is a part of the game, it's the more appealing part. Just give it a try.

  • Give me a reason why not all ships should raise such a flag!
I would raise the white flag as my common flag and the reapers´s flag as my emissary flag. What is the downside of the white flag?

And when a crew is taking your loot, the crew is not bullying you or harrasing you. The are just doing pirate stuff in a pirate game.

If you are so scared of PvP go raise the white flag that is already in the game. Some crews maybe respect that. But i would not. I would go full cowabungamode if i see a ship with loot on. Because pirating is my only source of income.

If u want a peaceful time on the Sea of "Thieves", always have an eye on the horizon. Always be prepared to make a run if u don´t wanna fight back. Don´t leave your ship when other ships are nearby. Dont anchor at islands. Just raise your sails.
    Some tips for running:
Sloop is the fastest against the wind.
Brigantine is the fastest in crosswind.
Galeon is the fastest with the wind.

(pls excuse my bad english im just trying to help)

    No it wouldn't.
I would rather have a server alliance than somebody throwing up a white flag essentially making them invulnerable.

    Server alliances can be fun.
Hunting a ship and it suddenly becoming invulnerable because of a dumb ruleset that restricts player freedom is not fun.

I manage to play this game as a solo and I have no problems with other players. Many other players crew up to find safety in numbers. Adding more pve safety features would render the game unplayable for the most part. There would be no point hunting ships. Especially when you aren't hunting for loot but for pvp.

This topic has been talked to death.

@Deckhands We need an anchor drop here Capn!

  • More violence and mayhem!

    Less peace!

  • @glannigan we sink with honor and call it gg!

  • I agree that, while you arent describing a strictly passive mode, any sort of pve safeguarding would be detrimental to the game.

Not just because of "pvp is a part of the game" "its sea of thieves not sea of friends" or any of the other similar arguments people make. Its detrimental because it removes any sort of engagement from the player after awhile. Yes, when you are first starting out, the pve challenges in this game seem hard enough without worrying about being shot at by people. However. There are only so many chests you can dig up, skeletons you kill, or world events you do before you are guaranteed success. It's just the nature of doing somthing enough times, you get better at it. Having the unknown factor of other players keeps the game unpredictable and varied to maintain player engagement even if you never once initiate a pvp confrontation. It's the unknown that keeps players comming back, every single time you play sea of thieves it is a different experience.

Furthermore there are technical challenges you arent considering, if you have a white flag up and are doing order of souls voyages, say you throw a firebomb at some gold skeletons and a member of your crew or you are inside the blast radius. Would you, having just done damage to a player flying the white flag, be subject to those penalties? Or, say someone in the world has picked up a gunpowder barrel, decided against it, and has ditched it overboard. In the 5 minutes before it sinks you sail over it while flyi ng the white flag and it explodes, did that player attack you? Obviously not, but how do you distinguish between that and someone deliberately laying it in your path?

The whole implementation of such a feature is rife with such cases and there is probably no way to do it without leaving room for it to be exploited. Which would leave people who want the feature dissatisfied, and the people who dont want the feature dissatisfied. That just isnt a good way to maintain or grow a playerbase for an online game.

I think with all honesty, this is too much you are expecting from others in a open world PvEvP game. Seriously.
How can someone know who you are, what you are doing and btw who the hell has any right to ask for let been alone?
Nobody has, we all have to deal with the uncertainty about other players.

Therefore I’m proposing a white flag that basically allows people who just want to enjoy the game without being harassed by a bunch of sweaty bullies.

Im not a sweaty bully, but a roleplayer and it would be so immersionbreaking to have that.

If they for example attack a player with a white flag on, they loose gold or emissary level.

Have thought this through well and eliminated all the ways you can exploit this?
    No you didnt.
What if i attack you and hoist the white flag, when you shoot back for revenge and i let you win to make you suffer the fee for beeing that "toxic" to me???

But to make things fair, the user can’t raise the white flag if they have a certain amount of loot on board.

So perfect for your sweaty hardcore pvpers, no?

Sorry artificially constructed rules dont do any good in games.

  • @l3g3ndary-drago

Rather have u alliance up to sink'm all and take the alliance loot as a whole. This flag up, u can't shoot me idea is broken.

I'm hauling my loot the pacifist pirate i am. Enjoying the scenery and beautifull waves. All of a sudden u roll up on me! With your Reaper Grade 5. (your intent is doing what a reaper 5 should do) reap your rewards!

But u know what. Just before u board me and just before your crewmate loads the cannons. I'm climbing the crowsnest and pop a white flag. Now u just lost your reaper grade 5 and any coin u would have or would gain.

This sounds more broken than them stealing your loot. Them stealing it means u lost it. Don't lose it.

My 2 doubloons on the matter.

  • I've said this once and I will say it again. If people keep asking for an easier game, easier commendations then soon they will want padding on their ship so their pirate doesn't bonk his head on the sides. There will be so many glitches implemented in this system, does it remove the ability to sink others? so you are saying that I can raise the flag and then pound on the side of a reaper 5 that has been stacking for 18 hours? or can you raise it get pounded by a galleon and not be able to fight back? You are asking for double freedom, be able to sink others, but punish the other ship if they sink you back. And if you fix that problem you are just gonna come back to the forums complaining that you couldn't defend yourself. If this comes off as brash i appologize, im just sick of people asking for somthing that would take so much attention from the main game for thier so called "PVE" game mode.

  • There is already a thread for this https://www.seaofthieves.com/forum/topic/126843/mega-thread-pvp-and-pve-playstyle-discussion

  • @l3g3ndary-drago no

  • @doormaat a man never spoke truer words

  • Wait, everyone here, including me is getting mad because this idea is very unwell thought out. Guys, we can get a system where we can sink people and they cant fight back. why is everyone hating this idea? this is amazing i can go without emmesary, go sink every ship without retribution and get ez gold.

  • What’s the game called? Sea of what?

  • @illbushido305 Im pretty sure its called sea of scardy cats

  • @rtl-saint yeah I’m sure it is 😂

  • @l3g3ndary-drago why not get so strong that noone wants to fight you

  • @l3g3ndary-drago Sweaty bullies? Do you mean PvPvE players playing a PvPvE game?

  • I remember my first days playing game, I was so impressed when I was able to sail in Maiden Voyage, than I went into Adv mode and as I was about leave outpost some sloop came in and blasted me than one of the crew jumped and killed my character. I was like "that went well" so I spawned again and I was lucky to leave outpost that time. My happiness lasted maybe 20 minutes, another ship came along and my ship is going down with me waiting at Ferry of the Damned. I was upset, here I am somebody who played all Battlefield titles, and I can't last 30 minutes. So I watched some videos, split my time between arena and adventure. Now.... I harassed galleon that was harassing sloops, did not sink galleon because they had Merchant emissary 3 bars so I did not want them to lose progress, instead they lost their sails, and got hit with enough curse balls to limp, dance, while vomiting for days. Just wanted to teach galleon a lesson. Blasted multiple megs and skeleton ships, at the end I gave away my ship full of chests to some random dude because I did not feel like sailing to outpost. This game is great and if you learn mechanics you will be able to hold your own. It takes time, but there are a lot of resources that can be used to learn. I love exploring things in this game there are so many things to discover.

  • @l3g3ndary-drago Ahoy, going to be dropping anchor on this thread as we have a dedicated Mega thread here: https://www.seaofthieves.com/forum/topic/126843/mega-thread-pvp-and-pve-playstyle-discussion

Feel free to add your thoughts/feedback and suggestions there.

    Thank you.
