The Duke Ship Set

  • To be clear: This is not just about getting cosmetics. This is about things being realistically accessible to everyone.

I'm just really disappointed that the Duke ship is behind such a huge paywall. Most cosmetics and items are, in one way or another, available to everyone. The emporium can be pricey, but it's still generally realistic for anyone who truly wants to buy a set to purchase it. Cosmetics you earn in game are possible, with a bit of a time sink. But locking a cosmetic ship set behind a $300+ purchase feels entirely unfair.

It's feels like it's only exclusive to people who can afford, or otherwise be lucky enough to get a new console so early. It's alienating a large portion of the playerbase. PC players or players who can't afford to spend that much money are being left behind. Especially in this economic climate, many people are just barely making ends meet.

There are a few players who would call people like me "salty" or "entitled to everything". I'm not. All I really feel like anyone is entitled to is a fair chance to get this set, or any future items.

My problem is about making things realistically obtainable to everyone. I hope I'm making that clear.

For example, if the set was in the emporium, and given for free to the new console players, it would be a better. It would be available to everyone, while still being a major perk.

I really hope I'm making sense here.

  • @callme0wl there are too less limited cosmetics...so I'm fine with this...
Anyway, if you know someone with a Series X/S, just log in to SoT there once and you have the set

  • @schwammlgott You've missed my point.

It's an incredibly expensive cosmetic, that's left out a huge portion of the playerbase.

You shouldn't have to give your passwords over to someone to log in for you, or travel in a pandemic to someone's house to log in, or make a huge purchase for any cosmetic.

It's not realistically obtainable for most people, unlike other cosmetics.

Personally, I won't be bothered either way to get it. But the way it's left out so many people is what bothers me.

  • @callme0wl as I said...there are too less limited cosmetics...there should be more...sure it's a huge investment, not like chips...

  • The "I've got a bigger wallet than you" set. I'm cool with limited access sets, but the OP is right lol this just isn't realistic. Anyone who flaunts this set will very likely not be looked upon to highly seeing as it's a flex on others wallets during a economic crisis.

Sum it up, add more limited sets with realistic capital goals.

  • I don't like the idea of platform specific sets. Why should I need to buy a console just to get this set? A console which underperforms my PC mind you. And all of my friends play on PC so I can't just borrow a mates Xbox. There's no realistic way for me to get this set. Now I don't actually want the set, but I think it's a bad precedent to set. I'd like to see Rare release a Steam only ship set and see how the playerbase reacts.

  • @callme0wl accessibility to this set isn't a huge deal. Anyone can get it, it may require jumping through some hoops, but its possible. There is no pay wall as it was not exclusive to purchasing an Xbox Series X|S just using one. I will likely be the one logging in my pc crew members.

Rare has been making things tricky for people for the entirety of the game. Chips ahoy cookies in America. Logging in during small windows. Watching twitch/mixer during very specific windows as well. They have done perks for being a member of Game Pass Ultimate. I dont think this is gonna change.

If you want the duke set I will gladly log you in for it, they are just pixels and it doesn't even look that nice.

  • And where is my set for the purchase of xbox one x?it is not. as it was not!

  • @captain-coel It's a $300+ paywall, and offering up passwords to randoms to get a ship set is not safe and should never be considered.

  • @callme0wl its not a pay wall. sorry. you have options and they don't require a purchase.

  • Every time someone has said, "Give your login information to someone/me and you'll get it without having to buy the console" has solidified my stance in that the requirements to get this set are way too high.

That's really dangerous. Guys, do not give your password to anyone, and do not offer to log in for someone. Pretty sure this falls under the Xbox Code of Conduct.

  • @captain-coel

    Part viii: https://www.xbox.com/en-US/legal/community-standards#ii

Don't "Access or try to access profiles you don’t own"

  • @callme0wl you realize thats for malicious use. Someone setting up game share is perfectly acceptable amongst friends and family. Sure it requires alot of trust but its not actually in the rules, just in the examples.

  • Hey man I’m with you on being able to have it all or an at least and equal chance in owning things. I’m always sad when things are time limited or locked behind paywall. Unfortunately they have their place in the business world as it could motivate certain people to spend money. I am personally blown away that rare has given us so much content for free over the years that that I have sort of let this go. While me and you would rather be able to have fair access to everything I’m sure we have been able to see this game grow because of some of those pay walls and exclusive titles.

  • It's an incentive for people to invest in their xbox ecosystem, paying the monthly fees and what not. On the positive side it might encouraged more people to upgrade their systems earlier which would be good for the game. So I don't mind, I have friends who are getting the new console so I'll be able to see it when they equip it, just like happened with Battle Toads. They will also get to show of, in game, that they have the new system, so nice for them. Still I'll admit to a little bit of jealousy and annoyance that I likely won't be able to get it, which I'm sure all those who have it will be pleased to hear.🤑

  • I'm just tired of ship sets being tied to real money or exclusivity. I wouldn't mind so much if we got a full ship set to work toward in game in between the emporium and promotions. This game has turned into microtransaction mockery. One that I wouldn't be surprised dies off in the next year.

  • I think later they will include the skin in some Twitch Drop or event.

Because we all play on Xbox, we are all in the Xbox community, it doesn't matter if you play on PC, console or the cloud.

  • @callme0wl Its not an expensive item its free, if you buy something just because it comes with something that you want does not put the price tag on the free item that it comes with.
So enough with the drama, you and everyone got alot of time and to find someone with Xbox X S and get it for free.

I can help you if you want :)

And if Steam would have done it there are many ways to go around it like to refund the game after so its not a problem.

Aye, think the xbox ecosystem is great, love getting xbox games, achievements etc on my pc. Its my xbox home away from xbox.

Can't see from the dark videos but Duke holding two swords X looks 😎

  • 1: this is not a sea of thieves lore item

2: not everybody needs to be able to get every single cosmetic ever in the game (like the old time limited cosmetics, and 1 offs like the overachiever, golden banana and loot and lore sails)

3: the cosmetic is free, nowhere does it state that you have to purchase an XBSX or XBSS, of course NEVER give your account credentials to rando’s or strangers. But look for someone you trust (friends, family etc) and either visit them or give them the account (maybe reset pw after) getting the cosmetic literally takes less then 5 minutes; signin - launch SoT - load into server - signout

  • You can’t have every singe thing in the game you know. There has to be some sort of exclusives. If you really really want the ship, you have until May 9th 2021 to claim it. I understand it’s a paywall but the ship is free for people with the new console is the point.

That’s the thing people don’t see. You don’t “need” to buy anything at all. It’s a free bonus for people with the new console. People just want the ship, myself included but there’s exclusives in every game. We don’t need to have every single item in the game. Deadline for this is May 9th 2020 so everyone has plenty of time to either get a next gen console or find a friend with one to quickly log on and set sail on it.

I agree with you on that. Im not into platform specific sets either. I mean I am happy with my PC so certainly not inline for the new xbox that is for sure. Thankfully I personally dont care about this set either.

I do think if they maybe eventually released it in the game where everyone could buy it that would be more fair to the player base. Maybe this is the plan? Im not sure.

  • @illbushido305 It's free to the people who spend $300+ for their business partners platform. Totally free. 😅

    Yes, but no...

Just to clarify, game sharing or exchanging Home Xbox's is only intended for use within the same household, like in a family setting. For brothers/sisters/parents/children sharing games among themselves.

It's not intended to give to a friend over the internet in another house, town, city, state or country. Where you can get caught up doing that is from the rules stating that you are not allowed to share account information or share your profile with someone else. You are not allowed to give another person your account log in. Sharing account info can get your account banned, especially if the person that receives it wants to be a troll and report you along with a screenshot of your message that you sent them which contains your full account login including the password. I've seen it happen many times over the years.

You can read stuff all about it from Microsoft's legal mumbo-jumbo if you want to go on a Google adventure, but for quick and simple reference, in the official Xbox Community Standards link above provided by @CallMe0wl under Part ix, it says, "Don't share your profile with someone else." 🤷‍♀️

The person sharing their login falls under Part ix: "Don't share your profile with someone else."
The person accessing their friends' account falls under Part viii: "Don't access profiles you don't own."

People do share profiles all the time, sure. Lots and lots of people have and do. Most of the time, nothing happens as I don't think Micrsoft really spends a ton of effort to try to monitor each and every one of these situations. It wouldn't be realistic as so many people have done it or do it every day. I think they mostly just look into it if it's reported. However, just be aware, you're taking a risk when you exchange account logins as this is against their rules and the result is a perma-ban on your account if they choose to take action on you.

It is free. You’re buy an xbox not the ship. Is Rare not able to do something special for people without everyone complaining about wanting it too? You would have been real sad during the quest for the Golden Bananas if this is the case.

  • @illbushido305 Ice cream shop is giving out free ice cream to anyone who buys a new car from their business partner. It's totally free ice cream. 😂

Also their allowed to do whatever they want, just like we as their consumers are allowed to dislike whatever they do and complain 😉

  • To be fair, Rare has painted the picture clearly by itself, no one has to do anymore guess-work.

It has an affinity for small minority's and then, quickly closes the door on the large playerbase, so they can finish in peace with their buddies, if you know what I mean.

They definetly have an odd way with justifying themselves aswell - (they dont because if they display "logic-for-reason", the public see's the flaw's and most importantly... The personal bias)

It's funny........ They're called Rare, yet they're idea of "Rare" is so obscure and straight up, incorrect it is unbelievable. To top it off, they are (not all but most) UK based. THEY should have an understanding of the description of Rare... & an idea of what a playerbase is and why Rare items aren't Rare because of the playerbase, but because of the difficulty to obtain them within their playerbase (obtainable by all, attainable by few). This... Come's down to a case of catering to children though, I believe.

Hey it's their game in the end. Nothing we say, will change anything sadly and unfortunately. You can't cure logical fatigue in Game Development. It's not possible. Sorry to be negative, but providing impartial, unbias Feedback is the best way to be. We could all grow from it.

  • @mercifulmerc Mostly true, beside the part that what we say won't make a difference. It's like the US election, individually our opinions don't matter to Rare sure, but as a collective our opinions drive their business and fill their pockets with capital. Our voice makes a difference if we can get enough people to speak up.

People are allowed to make misteaks, that includes developers. But as their consumers if we don't let them know what we think a misteak is they are liable to make more and even worse ones in the future. That dosn't mean we are correct either, the majority may think differently but that dosn't mean don't vote. You can only know when the results come in not befor ❤️

Not the best example mate haha. The ship is free. You’re buy an xbox to okay games. If you happen to have it, you get a cool skin. Much like the Black Dog pack. You didn’t buy the pack upon preorder. You got it as a free bonus for pre ordering 😉

  • @illbushido305 That's your opinion haha anyhow your example isn't the best either.

A pre order bonus for paying for the game befor it released versus a bonus for buying an expensive console within a deadline during a global economic crisis is wild.

My example is to amplify the idea that it's not "free" it's free in the game but only after you hand a minimum of $300 to their business partners.

  • The free gift was a thank you for purchasing the Xbox... And those that had purchased it most didn't realise they were going to get a gift at all.

When I got a free piggybank with the purchase of my house... I didn't sit back thinking that was an expensive piggybank.

  • It's because the Duke set is the release set of the new Xbox series, there's ship sets in the emporium that new players don't buy because they can't afford them or don't want to waste money on in game currency, the whole duke ship set has an X in the design for the Xbox logo if your complaint is about that oh well Xbox most likely paid for something to be done to promote the new Xbox with sea of thieves so think of possibilities before you complain if you can't afford the new Xbox and don't want to get it then just log into someone's you know, everyone thinks all cosmetics should be handed to them if it's limited edition for a reason I'm pretty sure it'll end up in the emporium some day the Meg set ended up in the emporium after the event

  • Oh please!

You have until like March of 21 to get it.

We’re gamers, we’re gonna get a new Xbox. Freaking thing is only like what? 300 bucks for the small one? Hell thats cheaper than what the damn XBOX One was 2 months ago!

    Ridiculous
