Going to say that calling other players “bots” is a lazy excuse for your own faults. Adapt and overcome.
I think the cutlass is in a good spot between all weapons. There was already a post explaining the various ways the cutlass is used besides smashing the button.
If a player is using double guns I don’t switch to double nor complain. I look for a weakness in their play style.
Trust me, I have no problem camping anyone who posts on these forums to hate on DG and defend the mess that is current swordplay (And I have camped many of them, we keep a list).
So you maintain a list of players to intentionally harass & bully because they have differing opinions/values?
Never
- Harass, bully, intimidate, threaten or encourage others to do harm. None of these behaviours will be tolerated. Any activity you engage in that is solely designed to target and upset another player or crew constitutes bullying. Repeated activity designed to ruin the experience of another player or crew constitutes harassment. Not only do we take these things very seriously, many law enforcement agencies recognise online abuse as an offence. If necessary, we will report incidents to the relevant authorities to take further action.
Recognizing a username and killing that person in-game doesn't fit that definition, the rule is in regard to using game chat or voice to actually harass them. Killing people within game rules is not toxic. Spawncamping is not toxic, you always have the option to scuttle. The most you'll ever get out of us is TTS pirate chat options and getting called a bot if you talk big.
A nice DG spawncamp is usually pretty educational to people we recognize from the forums who like to talk a big game and think they're good at PVP. If anything, we provide a service to help people learn about combat in the game.
Anyway, can't wait to see you in arena again Timmy :)

@bugaboo-bill You are talking complete nonsense...
First of all I hardly use double gun because it is a lot easier to kill people with the sword..I didnt say anything about DG.
You said you play Arena and cheese it to a TDM in Forts and i said, you cheese the game to play TDM at Forts in Arena.I never said I was one of these high level pvp double gunners because i'm not I'm just stating the facts..
What facts? Do you play TDM Fort Arena or not?
Do you use a cutlass to do so, although it is called a bot weapon by the more competitive players?you are assuming everything to just insult me....
The only thing i said about you is that i think you want TDM at Forts and therefore want to change the game to your needs like others do. For example people who want pve only.
That triggered you.
But in fact to me people who try to have TDM at Arena Forts and want the devs cater too them, nerfing weapons from that very limited pov completely ignoring adventure mode, shared world concept for all Kind of players are comparable to people demanding pve servers.
They want pve, you want TDM Fort Arena.
I want a balanced Adventure mode experience. While pve servers and TDM Fort Arena dont exist, you are asking for things to change that arent even existent or intended and i keep an eye on existing adventure mode to be balanced regarding PvP weapon loadouts and situational use of weapons.
We have to keep SoT a game for everyone, not only fps focussed PvP players, ok?!
You maybe want casuals and adventure mode players not have any influence on the weapon meta, but thats wrong. You are obvious a forum try-hard who spends more time on here attacking people making false assumptions than playing the actual game..
Wow. You know this way there is no constructive discussion.
You are the one who is dismissive from start. It is my opinion that the sword has become way easier to kill people and takes way less skill that it used to...
Ok lets see the facts.
The sword does 5 more damage and 4 instead of 5 swings to kill a player at full health.
Did anything drastically change the swords mechanics?
No!
So to me skill to use the cutlass is like ever and has not changed.
ttk has decreased, mostly because DG could bunnyhop away eating while in close combat and guns were to strong used in close quarter combat.
To balance the situational use of weapons, the cutlass needed a buff for ttk.
Skill requirements havent changed! The majority of players just spam it hoping for the best....
And where is the problem in that?
Game is a shared adventure world for everyone!
Low skill gap and easy to use weapons are fine.
Skilled players can deal with that or not?No they cannot, they seem to feel to go to the forums beeing dismissive torwards casuals, call them bots and that they have no skill, but spam the sword and this ruins your experience.
What about your demands ruin their experience?
And what about before the experience of any competetive Swashbuckler was ruined? And where is the middleground?
Weapons use is situational!
Have fun

The thing I hate most about the combat in this game is that it is over too quickly. Whether you get vortexed or DG'd at long range. Being wiped out in seconds prevents you from playing the game at all, and that is more frustrating then being beat to begin with. Even if I were to die, it would be a lot more fun to have fought for 20 seconds vs 2. This is most notable when against a good DG'r, or multiple sword users.
This doesn't account for food or throwables, but it is just an idea.
Sword:
Attack: First to land a strike cancels the enemies attack.
Block: Can block immediately after any strike in the combo.
Combo:- Strike 1: 20dmg, no root.
- Strike 2: 20dmg, root.
- Strike 3: 25dmg, knockback.
Lunge: Same, but allow slow movement on fail instead of root.
Guns:
Blunder: 90dmg, same knockback.
Flintlock: 35dmg, half knockback.
Eye of Reach: 60dmg, half knockback.I didn't see this post earlier and just wanted to take the time to address it.
Sword attack - preceding a counter attack due to a successful hit is okay in my book, provided the other pirate can still have the opportunity to defend.
Sword block - why not during the attack?
Sword strikes - the damage is too low and would allow for DGing to reign supreme yet again as meta. As for the effects, I would rather have the root occur with the 1st strike rather than the 2nd; it ensures that they can't run away so easily and will be forced to defend. The 3rd strike is the same as it is now, so no real comment there.
Sword lunge - how slow are we talking? Like during the hold of a standard lunge slow? Or more like broken leg slow?
Blunder - damage is too low; it relies on its 1-shot potential to counter the sword; without it, it only becomes good for its knockback utility and is relegated to the role of a backup weapon rather than a primary. With this change, why would you ever use it over a sword?
Flintlock - damage reduction of this magnitude would make it virtually useless; 3 shots to kill is WAY too slow. With the knockback, even at reduced rates, would see it picked over the blunderbuss more simply due to its sheer utility at that point (that is, assuming if damage remained unchanged).
Eye of Reach - damage reduction, when paired with the slow reload and terrible hipfire, would see the flintlock chosen more often over this setup. In contrast the added knockback would cement this as the go to weapon for ranged attacks, because once you hit them, they're dead, as the knockback would prevent them from ever closing in - this is also why it no longer has knockback, so I don't see that changing any time soon. Also, with knockback at such range, why would anyone choose a blunderbuss or sword over this?
I'm still trying to find what "high level pvp'ers" use to measure themselves as such. It's just ego padding and delusional to think of yourself as such with no reliable metric to rank yourself against. Doesn't matter what you used to justify to yourself, it's delusional.
You try to dismiss all sword users as sword bots and claim it takes no skill to use, but it's killing you and giving people a chance against double gun players and you want to take that back away. Sword is gonna be a usable weapon in the game from now on. It will never go back to being a wet noodle to gun players. It takes plenty of skill to hit the smallest, darkest characters in the game that are jumping all around and trying to brush against you with a one shot blunder or whatever follow up gun if that misses some. Now you have to be cautious about brushing against a sword, you're gonna want to get used to the idea.

Recognizing a name is one thing, but keeping lists to intentionally target is another.
The rule is about harassment, bullying, intimidation, threats, and encouraging others to do harm. They are spelled out quite clearly in the header of that particular rule and in no way are they limited to text/voice communications by their definitions or by wording in Rare's CoC.
Killing people within game rules is not toxic.
Never said it was, nor are we talking toxicity.
Spawncamping is not toxic, you always have the option to scuttle.
It is situational; sometimes it is and sometimes it isn't, regardless of scuttling.
The most you'll ever get out of us is TTS pirate chat options and getting called a bot if you talk big.
This may be true for you, but definitely not for everyone, whom you do not speak for.
A nice DG spawncamp is usually pretty educational to people we recognize from the forums who like to talk a big game and think they're good at PVP.
Nothing educational about padding ones own ego. Not everyone who thinks DG (as it is now) is silly claims to be good at PvP either :?
If anything, we provide a service to help people learn about combat in the game.
If this were true, there would be communication between both parties other than trash talk.

I never called anyone a BOT! From your answers about the sword I could tell that maybe you guys didn't play arena a lot and probably played on xbox… There isn't anything wrong with it but there is a higher skill range with PC players... PC players will always have an advantage over console players due to the mouse and keyboard and having more powerful machines which in turn makes their level of gameplay higher... you are moving faster and in turn experience a lot more bugs than console players...
There is nothing wrong with console players but you can spot them from a mile due to their naivety on certain issues, i'm guessing I was right and you play on xbox?

Sword attack - preceding a counter attack due to a successful hit is okay in my book, provided the other pirate can still have the opportunity to defend. They can still defend, that was actually my next point under Sword Block.
Sword block - why not during the attack?
They can, sorry I didn't fully specify. They can defend at any time, just wanted to be clear that they would not be prevented from doing so simply because they were hit.
I can agree with the first strike being a root, perhaps the second being a slowed movement similar to the suggested lunge penalty below?
All of the suggestions in my post were meant to go hand-in-hand with each other, not individually. I am not sure by your responses here and below if that was clear, again, I apologize.
Sword lunge - how slow are we talking? Like during the hold of a standard lunge slow? Or more like broken leg slow?
Either option could work, leaning more toward the broken leg without the limp.
Blunder - damage is too low; it relies on its 1-shot potential to counter the sword; without it, it only becomes good for its knockback utility and is relegated to the role of a backup weapon rather than a primary. With this change, why would you ever use it over a sword?
This was an attempt to balance it with the other changes below. Right now the blunder is used quite heavily because of the 1-hit potential, and the ease of dealing more than 50% damage. Paired with a shot from any other weapon, even with 90% damage, it is still quite versatile in any close-mid loadout.
Increasing the time-to-kill is the point, and the damage reduction coincides with the other suggestions. The slight knockback is there to help offset the lesser damage, granting a small buffer for the reload.
Talking a small amount of knockback here, closing the gap wouldn't be that much more difficult. Coupled with the reduction in damages, there is the chance at some extra opportunity to gain that ground.
Looking at the damage numbers over-all, not a lot has actually changed aside from a couple of loadouts taking potentially 1 extra shot/swing.
Current:
EoR + Sword: 2 Shots, or 1 Shot + 2 Swings
EoR + Flintlock: 2 Shots.
EoR + Blunder: 1-Many Shots.
Flintlock + Sword: 2 Shots, or 1 Shot + 2 Swings
Flintlock + Blunder: 1-Many Shots.
Blunder + Sword: 1-Many Shots, 1-Many Shots + 0-4 SwingsSuggested:
EoR + Sword: 2 Shots, or 1 Shot + 2 Swings
EoR + Flintlock: 2-3 Shots.
EoR + Blunder: 2-Many Shots.
Flintlock + Sword: 3 Shots, 2 Shots + 2 Swings, or 1 Shot + 3 Swings
Flintlock + Blunder: 2-Many Shots.
Blunder + Sword: 2-Many Shots, 1-Many Shots + 1-5 SwingsWith some minor tweaks, actual thought starts to come into play rather than just bang/switch/bang every time.
If pairing an EoR with a Flintlock, the attacker can choose to reload the EoR to get 2 hits and a kill in, or take the chance to deal 2 Flintlock shots as it has a quicker reload.
This was just a broad suggestion to help extend the TtK and make for a potentially more enjoyable experience.

In each one of your posts you have clearly pointed out the idea your opinion is superior to everyone else’s.
I have never got that feeling
So please, take a break and give people some breathing room instead of constantly putting their ideas down.
So if I suggested that they added submarines and airships and rocket launchers you can't tell me it's a bad idea and you have to agree with me or else it's "putting my ideas down"?
It sounds like you've come to a feedback forum but only want to hear good feedback. Not every idea is perfect, people will disagree.
What I find interesting is that until this update the forums were hit with common posts complaining about double gunners. Now they changed to sword and there are not complaints about double guns. I'm not sure if there is a win here for Rare. I'm just glad they are still giving you an option, for awhile now people have been calling for sword to be mandatory with 1 gun as an option.
I know I use Eor + sword or Blunder + sword based on the situation.
@galactic-geek Correct, fixed. I was doing each set for Current and Suggested at the same time and got it mixed :P

thats only because currently double gunning is not issue unless you are animation cancel exploiting it. Now if i start seeing a stupid amount of animation cancel exploits, then yea i can see people calling for the mandatory sword again as its the only 1 true way to fix the issue. but as of right now, i would say both are in a good situation granted no one is exploiting.

And, what does that change that your arguments are wrong and you cannot say other but derail and beeing personal? If you dont argue my points but what i am or how i play and want to make that your points in a discussion about the sword, well...
Your point was TDM in Arena and highly competetive players, doesnt matter if you belong to them ir do so by yourself, it's your argument about sword and that it is skillless compared to fps TDM stuff.
And my point is, you have to consider all players and dont argue around TDM in Arena what isnt even an intended mode or use of Arena, but around Adventure mode as a shared world, still a crossplay title, a game for teens, parents, casuals, everyone.
Low skill gap i said is good to have for having all players a fun game, not every PvP game needs to be a hardcore FPS.
Have a nice day.

Looking into the account a bit, I am reasonably certain that this is the Alt you spoke of. In the off-chance I am incorrect, the following statements still apply.
So not only do you lie about me (or anyone on my crew) calling any of you "hackers", you also lie about how you (or your crew) communicate with others. I never communicated outside of the chat wheel and was met with "eat (fecal matter) timmy".
Kind of funny considering you claim the following...
The most you'll ever get out of us is TTS pirate chat options and getting called a bot if you talk big.
In addition to this, we were also called "scuttlebots" by the same player for scuttling our ship. Our ships were anchored so close that you could jump from one to the other; we managed to clear your crew from our ship a couple of times and get our anchor up. It was dropped again quickly each time, and was a pointless endeavor which was going nowhere. The most logical choice was to scuttle and move on, but of course that makes us "scuttlebots" :?
Spawncamping is not toxic, you always have the option to scuttle.
Say it is an option, then make derogatory remarks for it.
@pvekilla420 I play at least 5- 20 games of arena every day. I come across no issues with blocking. If there is a problem with blocking for you, it's probably because the player hit you from another side that you are not blocking from. I usually jump around and hit the enemy from the back or the side to get damage.

@pvekilla420 XD This guy. I don't come first in every match. I come second sometimes. I haven't been going for arena for very long, but If you want to go against me and my crew, we'll see who's better.
Your argument is sword is Overpowered! and yet you can camp them... wait... isn't the definition of Overpowered that it is too much to handle and will result in you losing 1v1's often enough that it is considered an unfair advantage? Always lovely when people complain that something is overwhelmingly strong and yet somehow they are able to easily deal with anyone that uses it.
I bet you will respond with, because of my skill - but doesn't that mean it is fine? With skill you can outplay them and yet their weapon is to strong? Somehow regardless of their skill they cannot beat you even when they use a weapon you classify as overpowered?
If it is because multiple people can beat you with swords while you are alone? Are you and the rest of your entire crew overwhelmed by a single decent/good double gunner ever or by a single sword user? You claim to farm sword users and that means you beat them, alone or only in collaboration with your crew and you need to always out number them?

@pvekilla420 What's wrong with my advice? I play more Adventure than arena, and It's better in my opinion. More at stake. And people are better at PvP in adventure anyway.
"When engaging in sword combat, attacking a player and landing the first hit will now prevent the rival player from retaliating, ensuring they are unable to attack through a three-hit combo. The rival player will still be able to block, so be prepared for counterattacks."
And people said this didn't need to be changed.....
People weren't asking for the sword to be changed, they were asking for a nerf because of the damage. This change isn't a nerf.
EDIT This is the change I wanted though, so thank you Rare.
