Male to Female

  • I have a friend who is currently transitioning from Male to Female, and is now uncomfortable playing a male char due to the circumstances, after contacting SoT regarding this she was informed that she would have to delete the char and start all over again.

This is unacceptable, the amount of time and work that she had put into the game and to feel comfortable playing a game that she loves she would have to start all over again!

She has been playing this game for a year and a half, and has been in the transition process for 8 months and is now the time to start changing things but SoT wont help!

There should be an option to change gender once.

She is being forced to stop playing after this and tbh I think its discrimination to those who want to transition and who identify as a female.

She is not forced, it is her own decision. Yes, I agree that it would be nice to have an option to re-roll your pirate once. But I feel it is distasteful of you to call this discrimination. RARE is not prohibiting her from doing it, they are not allowing anyone to re-roll the character without losing progress.

  • @l4chsfps But they are, she has max Athena and to re roll she would lose all progress in the game, therefore, has to start all over again. This is discrimination.

  • Even if it isn't discrimination it's still unacceptable regardless.

  • @pandemonium616 It is not discrimination. It would be if they would only delete HER progress when re-rolling. But they delete everybody's progress when they try to re-roll. No one else is screaming discrimination because there isn't any in this case. And frankly, this is only damaging to legitimate trans concerns where actual discrimination gets downplayed because some people call everything discrimination. Ever heard of the boy who cried wolf?

  • @pandemonium616 you apparently dont know what discrimination mean.

Since no one can do it, it can not be discrimination.
If you single out a gender, age, collor an so on, that that group cant do it, you would be right.
But since no one can change without losing, it's not discrimination.

  • @l4chsfps the boy who cried wolf, was regarding lying this isn't the case, I get your view on it and honestly I understand that, I don't want to argue over this, I just think that they should have the option to change it, if this was the case.

  • @greencamillion1 Fair enough discrimination isn't the right word for it then, but it unacceptable.

  • @pandemonium616 I get what you mean and I agree with you in that it would be nice to have such a feature, especially since many people would welcome a change in looks. :)
I just felt that calling RARE discriminatory was out of place.

  • @l4chsfps That's fair enough, maybe I shouldn't of used that word and if I could edit the post to remove that I would, I just think this is unacceptable maybe not discrimination.

  • @l4chsfps I have edited it, I apologise if I used the wrong words to.drscribe it, but it is unacceptable.

  • Nobody can change their character without losing progress.. "discrimination" pfft.. please!!

Absolutely no reason that your friend deserves special treatment over anybody else..

Would it be a cool idea to re roll character.. yes..

  • @x5h3ar3rx I have re worded it and took discrimation out of it, I understand what people are saying.

But it is unacceptable to not have this option.

  • @pandemonium616 it is a long requested feature to reroll your character, it is sad that there isnt one as of yet but alot of people still accept it and thus it is acceptable.

As a software engineer myself i expect that the way they built the game or at least the way they linked progression to the pirate in the game doesn’t allow them to easily change this and make it an option, this doesnt mean this feature will never be available but it means at least it would take a huge amount of effort.

  • @callmebackdraft Ah yeh I understand that and hopefully it does get changed in the future as I imagine this will be a welcome change for many.

  • sorry but this is ridiculous.

Progress in this game means nothing and if someone dislikes the char he or she had started playing with it's not anyones fault but the person themself.
there is no change Character thing until and maybe will be added as a feature for the Pirate Emporium, but then it need to be for everyone possible in all ways you can imagine.
Hey what about i feel like a marsian and had surgery for greenish skin and eyes like an Alien? Am i discrimintated then?

With all honest and beeing someone who has no problems with gay (the apropriate word was censored), transgenders and such it's not anyones fault or responsibility to cater to this.

I treat everybody as a human being, no matter what you are or how you feel or what you want to be.
But to tell us it is discrimination if they dont allow a gender switch or a character reroll is completeley ridiculous and rather outrageous.

It's really outrageous to think we all need to cater to people who deviate from the norm in a special way.
No! they arent special, they dont get special rights, they get equal rights.
And that is something we all need to fight for, no matter if you are one of them or not!
Equal rights, but not special rights or treatment!
This attitude and want to get more attention because you are a minority or somehow special is what some mentally retardes use as an argument against equal treatment and rights saying: see they want to be special when they are not.

gay*, transgender, africans, asians. green, yellow, purple people arent special, they are humans like any other 0815 human and i would always fight for them to have equal rights and get equal treatment, but not extra or special!!!

*i wanted to use another more aproriate and political correct word, but it was censored.

  • You can put "female" clothes and hairstyles on the male character model? Your friend can be the first transgender pirate

  • @bugaboo-bill as you can so, I have removed the discrimination from it as I can completely understand what people are saying and I admit it was the wrong word to use, but I wouldn't say it was ridiculous to ask.for a feature that would be good for so many people.

  • @xzodeak That's what she has been doing, but there still should be an option to change gender.

  • @pandemonium616 said in Male to Female:

This is a game, not real life. Are they never going to play a game that has a male lead? They're missing out, as Mario Odyssey is great fun.

I know plenty of people who play SoT and play as a character of the opposite sex because it's fun. You know, because it's a game. If your friend loves the game so much, they should love their character and accept them for who they are.

Yes, it would be nice to reroll, but it doesn't warrant a rant across different internet sites (you also posted this on Reddit but it was deleted) or any of the personal story you told us.

  • @xzodeak sagte in Male to Female:

    i like this :)

all fine, i read it after i posted my comment.

Yes i also suport the idea to reroll your character without loosing progress as something they can offer for 5 bucks in the pirate emposium.
    Nothing wrong about that.

Your friend is welcome no matter what she is or how she feels.
Seriously i have met very nice and amazing people who switched gender. No joke i was even a surgery assistant and assisted exactly one of these surgery's when a "man" became a woman with sucess and she was really amazing ;)

First of all we are all humans, that is it what is important, the rest is individuality. :)

I wish for your friend to soon get the option to do so.
Until she may consider what @XZODEAK wrote.

  • @withmyapologies I haven't told the full personal story to that's irrelevant, i probably shouldn't of done a rant about it but I'm able to say my view just like everyone else is.

  • @bugaboo-bill She has been doing that and it's been great, yes they are great people, I just think it's time for this to be brought into the game.

And thank you for your kind words 🙂

  • What i don't understand is why has this person not took the gender he or she prefers from the start? i don't want to feed all the guys who are running in a female Pirate, and vice versa , or my refrigerator would be empty...

Years ago we warned all New Pirates to take your time into choosing your character untill you were 100 percent content with the one who was standing before your nose…

No , i'm not going to turn the screwdriver in the wound as you have reworded the whole topic but there is , at this moment , no way to change it . this is maybe sad but … maybe ,when time and the constant cries for more content become silent , they may spare some time to give us a second choice without losing progression or cosmetics.

  • @clumsy-george Because at the time, they were unsure of what they really wanted, she has been in counselling since then, what was the point in having that char if this wasnt what she really wanted after the counselling.

Yes I have reworded it as I understand I said it wrong and accept it was wrong, I understand what you are saying and I agree more time should be taken in creating your pirate, but I also get why she didnt at the time of creating it.

Maybe this could be a future feature.

  • @pandemonium616

it took me over 2hours to get a character model what comes close to the pirate i had in the Alpha and Beta Stages :)

Once i played SWTOR and i were stucked in the character creation process finding a cool name for the Star Wars universe.
I ended u with Kenbun Batto and it took 4 hours! :D

Some people maybe think that it is ridiculous, but i know and understand why people want to identificate with their char and alter ego in a game.
To me it's also a very important thing.
If my Alter Ego is not what i like, i refuse to play the game, even if the game is fun and i like it.

I have very much to loose if i would switch my character, but luckily i'm very happy with Mr. Bugaboo Bill :D

He's a little like me, if he shave his beard he looks like another person and like a Babyface XD

  • @pandemonium616

Oh , i do understand , but why can he or she not crossdress for this moment , i know that it is just a bandage on a wound , but , although i know that yer character is very important , the rest of the game is still the same...

i think that many Pirates don't care if a girl Pirate uses a guy Pirate as character or vice versa...i think your Friend is indeed struggling about the everyday things in life. People who are not close , see a sudden change and will look strange or start gossipping but she has to stand above this all and enjoy the True Core of this game ,namely playing , dreaming away , go with the flow of coincidense that this game so perfectly provides and most Pirates , including me ,don't care if we play with a girl in a guy Pirate … Let her know that , for this moment , she just has to make the best of it , and i'm confident that ,in time , Rare may be import the chance to alter a character , as many Pirates feel they would like a second chance , for whatever reason...

i'm a guy ( * haha , you're an Old sock, George , you utter moron), but if i play Tomb Raider ,i play with a girl Lara Croft ...So , this doesn't change my thinking, it is what it is and i just play...

Tell your Friend that she has a place under God's Sun, just like you , me and everybody else . A Pirate Character doesn't define a person...A Heart and Mind does , but not a graphical depiction...
i know ,like said before , it takes huge mental steps in this progress but for me and many others it simply doesn't matter who we play with or what kind of graphical choice this person has made to represent her or him… We play with a person, man female or new gender , i don't care , as long as persons come to the Sea to forget real life and enjoy themselves during the hours they grant themselves an ascape from the real world...

Your Friend needs to see that this game is a place where she can go ,just to have fun and no one will point a finger , she doesn't have to tell us her life story before she may join any of us on the waves and the character ...Well, it's just a character … And very many have chosen too hastly… i think that in time a reroll may still happen...Rare hasn't confirmed it officially but haven't denied it officially either...

She doesn't have to give up courage and i hope that she sees this game as a place where she can set aside all wordly problems or other nasty thoughts or comments aside … We are Brothers and Sisters of the Coast , we fight , we goof , we just have fun and we forget about the world that tries to floor us in the first round!

  • Never understand the problem with pirates making a character and down the toad, dislike themselves. Or rather...why switch genders? Meh just me.

Anyways it funny they feel like this, where it’s possible to simply wear female clothes and call it.

Everyone had a choice what the pirate should look like to begin with, everyone had the same amount of time to cycle around to find that special pirate.

In time maybe, we could recreate a new pirate. Maybe who knows. But as of right now. Those are your choices

    1. delete and start over
    2. wear female clothes

Rare not at fault, the player is for not thinking about the future.

  • I had a niece who is now my nephew, so I know all about it. With that out of the way, it would be nice to be able to change your pirate's entire character in-game, but for now at least, that's just not going to happen, and your friend has to come to terms with that, as well as the possibility that it may never happen.

For now, you do still have options, as others have already stated. They can stick with the pirate, try different appearances with the available cosmetics, or suck it up and start anew, like they themselves are doing.

Your friend doesn't like the idea of seeing a pirate of the wrong gender because of what it reminds them of - I get that. They also have to realize, though, that gender doesn't actually exist in video games - they're just characters; imaginary characters; bits of code; 1s and 0s...

Besides, most of the game is played in 1st-person, anyways! 😅

  • @galactic-geek Yeh, I completely understand what you're saying and its nice that someone actually gets it, I guess they will have to come to terms with this if they really want to keep playing the game.

  • @clumsy-george honestly, thank you for this comment.

I will certainly pass this into her, it will mean alot.

It's something she will have to come to terms with in herself, and hopefully this changes in the future.

  • @burnbacon everyone did have a choice, yes. But at the time things were different.

So I get the choice at the beginning but things have changed, she will just have to be a cross dressing pirate for now.

  • @bugaboo-bill I deleted my char about 10 times before settling for one I actually liked so I get that! Lol and takes me hours and hours to get a look and name I like in a game.

  • A friend thought it was funny to start a lovely pirate girl but he is still playing and stuck in a girl 🤭 now he has a skirt and sits like a bilge rat 😒 he thinks its too much work but i keep asking him to start over 😕

  • @ruigtand-nl Their choice; not yours.
