Fix Skull Forts/ Fort of the Damned

  • Me and my friends just spent hours grinding to get all the flames of fate and to get enough materials to take on the fort of the damned. We even had to fight four skeleton ships within 30 minutes which wasted half our supplies and we ended getting all of it back and heading to the fort. But of course once we got to the boss three different ships appeared and killed us all. I think you need to implement features that keeps players that just got in and haven’t done anything to destroying the process of others that have been grinding for hours. This is what makes everyone made and uninstall your game

  • The whole point of the new fort is to get different crews to fight over it. The new fort requires lots of effort and gives a great reward.... just to attract players to fight over it. When you activate it, it will broadcast to the whole server that you have started it. The whole mechanic is made to encourage crews to fight over it.

No one bothers to fight over the old forts. We only do them if they happen to spawn close by and we have nothing better to do.

  • @silent-xianshi the double gunning stuff has to go as well, just tried doing a fort of the damn and kept getting killed by jerks exploiting the game. Here's a reference to how it's done.

  • Fix implies something is broken, the thing in question no longer functions in it's intended purpose. Fort of the Damned isn't broken, because it works the way its supposed to. Why else would their be a giant beacon emblazoned in the sky, if it wasn't supposed to attract players, like moths to the flame? Everything about this game implies a lack of safety from other players. From the average voyage, Tall Tales, to the Fort of the Damned the presence of other player interference is always there.

You got robbed mate, its in the nature of the game. If the mere act of a player stealing your loot causes you to uninstall, it might be time to swap games. If you cannot handle players playing the game in a normal capacity, this might not be the game for you.

  • Welcome to the forum!

So I guess you're Agent Samuraii's friend from this post?

    https://www.seaofthieves.com/forum/topic/102196/get-rid-of-forced-crossplay-or-make-the-fort-easier

(Damn, lately people do like to get their friends and sons and wives to come sign up and duplicate their posts don't they?)

There is nothing to fix, the fort is working as intended and supposed to be a PVP hot bed. Strike up an alliance, parlay, prepare for attacks, steal the fort yourself, there are plenty of ways to do things.

Besides in what concerns the time to collect flames, ever since Jame's leak concerning the coming of fire in the game, I am sure there will be more convenient and faster ways to acquire the red flame and make the whole process faster. The PVP probably won't stop but still, you probably won't have to spend ahem "hours" getting them.

  • What is it with all these sore loser posts?
Seriously you guys are doin a pvp event. Not sure why anyone would think this would be easy.

I also dont know why everyone keeps dying to these server hoppers. Seriously these guys have low supplies. Its easy to sink these types

  • @nwo-azcrack I think people are frustrated. For me and my friends, between the lag we kept encountering (jumping from 80 ping to 300+), others using the new double gun exploit and to top things off it seems like the toxic players are coming back who feel it's necessary to cuss you out for attacking them or feel it's necessary to berate you for being killed by them. It all adds up.

So although the OP suggests something is broken (which I'd agree with you all it's not broken and working as intended), I think the mechanic could be tweaked to reduce frustration where it doesn't light up the red eyes until they unlock the door so they have a chance to grab something and run before every ship on the server swarms them before even finishing the darn thing :)

  • @monkeyflibbles You complain to others about an exploit and then show them how to do it? Boy have you got your monkeys crossed.

This is exactly what the devs were going for. They want the fort contested or beat togeather. If it didnt light up till the vault opened, then everyone would just grab the athenas and run. It wouldnt change anything except players would attack u sooner.

  • @silent-xianshi

I think you misunderstand what a 'Pirate' is.

  • @silent-xianshi

One question. What if a ship is finishing its lets say athena. So they are in server for 2 hours and stocked their ship. U start it. They sell their Athena and come to take your loot. is this Oke? How will u know the raiding enemy is NEW and not just finished their voyaging?

I reckon dont ban other players. Increase your exp. Rethink your tactics. Become the victor after battle. Especially if u got lots of supplies as u mention.

Dont complain others beat u. And ask for a removal.
Change your tactic. Thats my 2 doubloons on the matter

  • Cool. My friends and I fought over a regular fort for six hours.

    We won too.

Heck, tonight they fought over a FotD one for 3.5 hours. I joined in on the last hour.

    They/we won too.

  • @silent-xianshi don't ask for something to be fixed that isn't broken...learn what this game is about and deal with it or just uninstall it

  • @galactic-geek if i'm not mistaken this is the feedback forum, that the Rare is looking at, and part of the problem with the game that makes FotD (and other things) frustrating is people exploiting the system, so my response actually serves two purposes.

    1. Video proof of the double gunning exploit
    2. Anyone whose reading this can learn to do it themselves as well and level the playing field until it's fixed.

    nice pun btw.

  • @nwo-azcrack I agree up to players would attack you sooner. I think you'd have a couple ships float by to see if anyone was there, but not a whole fleet at once and constantly interrupting. Time you spent getting the lights and getting the ritual skull, fighting off waves of skeletons and killing the boss should net you a little something to make you want to keep doing the event over time to get the commendation but as it stands, I likely won't be doing that event in the future as the high risk isn't worth the reward.

I understand this is a pirate game and that it's not going to be fair, but looking through the forums and seeing there are a lot of frustrated players out there, people also have to realize it's a game and Rare doesn't want their player base saying... we'll I'm done, I've got people bunny hopping all over the place taking taking advantage of the lag spikes and double gunning me exploiting the system, it's time to move on to another game.

  • This is another PvE event by Rare to make things interesting which all it has done was prove that 90% of the players are opportunistic or lazy.... you decide.

  • @silent-xianshi

You'll have to get over it.

The Fort of the Damned was designed with player interaction in mind - hence the unique red-eye skull cloud and Reaper's Chests in the vault.

This is a high risk / high reward event, and it works as intended.

Showing someone how to take advantage of an exploit does not even the playing field. If that were true, we'd still have the DGE. It's about balance of gameplay, not just balance of players.

This is exactly what people need to understand.

Every time we have content that is remotely challenging and has it's reward scaled to the difficulty, there is always people who come out of the woodwork, complaining about how they can't achieve said event, therefore Rare needs to come "fix" it.

At some point people got to understand that SoT gives you equality of opportunity and not equality of outcome. If you can't succeed in an event, change your tactic and adapt, don't ask the bar to keep getting lowered to you.

  • I feel like we ask our goverment to ease up in exams and titles.
Becoming a doctor is to hard can we just get rit of the exams so i can be a doctor in a hospital.

Strange example right? And we probably all agree this is not a good idea. But for in game struggles where the same principale Aplies we think its oké to scale it down and ease up on it

Right? The way it's supposed to be, is that there are different levels of difficulty for events and zones. You choose to do the more dangerous stuff that rewards more, but you're not forced to.

Of course Rare wants everyone to be able to partake in every events, some are simply intended to be more difficult, and if you can't succeed on the first try, take a new approach, don't force the devs to nerf it to the ground.
