So I just wanna say I was incredibly stoked for this to come out, as soon as I was able, I hopped on and tried it out and I gotta say, it's amazing. The skeleton ships everywhere add a whole new dynamic, the new sharks are super cool, I even got attacked by the kraken in the first 15 minutes lol, I love what's been added, but I have some concerns too. I'm a solo sloop 90% of the time. Weekends my friends can come on and we'll do a galleon or a brig but any other day I don't have any friends online so I play solo on a sloop. I also don't like playing with random so I don't search for crews cause that's simply not my thing. I've been solo slooping for a long time so I'm used to it and I enjoy it. But the thing is now, as cool as all of this new stuff is, it almost makes it impossible to solo play anymore. I'm not the best player in the world but I've been playing the game since it came out and I'd say I'm relatively decent, especially when it comes to solo slooping. Yet, when I was playing for only a few hours I'd been sunk about 4-5 times already because here's the thing, as a solo player I can't take down a kraken, I can't beat one of the new megalodons, I can't destroy a skeleton galleon without a tonne of effort, not to mention I'm going through materials like crazy with how often these events are occurring, and also I can't destroy a ruby statue. So this new content drop effectively renders solo play damn near suicide to attempt. Don't get me wrong, I absolutely love the new content, I've been waiting for this for a long time and I'm so glad it's here, I think rare did an incredible job and it's something everyone should go and play, I just don't see how solo players or even new players are gonna have a chance anymore, and that's a little worrying because I really enjoy playing this game every night just on a sloop by myself. Those are just my thoughts so far.
Shrouded Spoils is crazy (my thoughts so far)
I do a fair amount of solo sloop'ing as well (I also do duo sloop and galleon, but I often just set sail on my own).
I honestly don't think this should be a concern. I also logged on and had an absolute blast in a pretty short session (duo sloop with my wife - we were just going to visit the different outposts to see/buy the new ship customization options, but ended up attacking and sinking a skeleton galleon, defeating a purple meg, and allying with another sloop to take down two skeleton forts - CRAZY fun!).
That being said... as a solo sloop player, the key is this - we don't have to stop and fight the meg or the ships and such (I haven't encountered the kraken yet... that is a bit scary, but I'll have to see how it plays out and what my options are).
We can treat megs exactly as we have been, as solo sloopers... same for the skelly ships. Just because it is very difficult for solo players, doesn't mean it's unfair to us. AND, I'd say the potential is that we may be a bit safer with this update. Other pirates will be busy with a lot of other things, and solo sloopers will still have their voyages and everything they've already been doing.
The ONLY thing that I feel is possibly too dangerous is the stronghold powder keg!! We voted on what to do with the one we found in the skelly fort (only one of the two forts had it) and it was 3 to 1 to sell it, instead of blowing it up (I was the only Pirate Legend, haha, so they all wanted the gold and the merchant rep).Honestly, other than the kraken, I don't think it's more dangerous out there... ONLY if you choose to stop and fight any of these new options - just like if you'd choose to do the skeleton ships beneath the ship clouds or the skeleton forts, prior. They can be done solo. And these are not more difficult than doing that.
Just my thoughts! :)
@blam320 No that's the thing, I do like playing alone but I'm worried it's gonna be alnsot impossible now

You’re right except the Thing with the Roaming Skelly Ships! I was Solo yesterday I don’t wanted to fight and that Thing breached near me through the Surface and attacked me, I couldn’t escape the Galleon sank me :( The Sea is an more dangerous Place now :D but it’s ok, I’m now only afraid from Solo Athenas!

I haven't had them pop up on me yet. I was thinking about that after I replied.
Will they chase us? Endlessly? I imagine they have some range limit where they'll give up, but I could be wrong.
Okay, at the very least, it may be a bit more dangerous, hehe. :)And, yeah, I'm not so sure I'll start a solo Athena's for a bit, until I get a feel for how things truly are. The kraken does scare me. As for skelly ships, I intentionally take on the full waves, solo sloop, but only rarely, when I want a test of perseverance, hehe.
@wraith-04 i also solo sloop 90% of the time. thou w this update I'm thinking i should find some regs to sail w daily. i typically play m-f 7am til noonish PST (west coast US) and sparatically on the weekends. if our gametimes match maybe we can crew up sometime II_JRATT_II Xboxlive.
Haha! :)
Okay, after replying earlier, I decided to set sail again, just for a quick bit... and, what do you know, I got my first taste of a solo sloop Kraken encounter!!
It took a while, but I not only managed to survive, I defeated the beast.
I just manned the cannons and shot any tentacle I could (three times seemed to do the trick, for each tentacle). And I kept my sails fully down. I had to bail and repair a few times, but the amount of holes weren't too terrible (3 at a time, it seemed). Those big tentacle slaps are pretty cool. :)I managed to get my sloop out of the area... and decided to turn around, head back in, and see if I could fully defeat her.
And I did.
My only complaint is... the only treasure I saw rise up from the deep was a crate of exotic spices. Not sure if that's working as intended or what. The kraken damage to the sloop seemed pretty safe for a solo player. The ONLY time I was too concerned was when I was on the wrong side of the tentacle wrap-around - I got caught at the bow of the ship, instead of in the cabin where I could head downstairs and repair. However, that's where the minimal damage came into play... she didn't seem to do much damage during that giant squeeze. I slashed her with my cutlass, repeatedly, and fired a few shots into her, before she let go and I could head downstairs for repairs. All was fine, and she was no match for me this day.
I hope you all find similar results! (although, I hope you all get better treasure for your efforts, lol)I think whilst this event is active I think the occurrence has been upped to help players get the commendations, after the event this will no doubt die down a little. I solo brig so might have to switch back to the sloop for a while. Love the new update tho, this game has improved so much with all these updates.

My experiences:
The update is time consuming and inspiring. I am glad they did it!
I was surprised that
- I was attacked every time by skeleton ships AND Megalodon - and in short frequency.
- skeleton ships shoot at megalodons. But I didn't see it bite back.
- after I brought a treasure of sorrows to a skeleton ship, it dived away in emergency as soon as possible and didn't come back, keeping my chest on board.
- the fog was not denser, the border between the visible environment and the impenetrable fog looks like a wall.
Unfortunately, I did not meet the Kraken, nor did the skeletal sloop show up. My athena took one hour more but was more fun then ever.

I actually forgot about that, but was just looking through the video I captured and grabbed this still:

It’s nice to hear that you can kill the Kraken alone, I will try it :)
@aclassali said in Shrouded Spoils is crazy (my thoughts so far):
From the video online it says that for every tenticle you ‘kill’ you get treasure.
Yes. But who has time to dive in and collect treasure when you're fighting just to survive?
Yeh I thought that too, not a friendly update for solo or inexperienced players. We were on a Brig near the end of a mission and one player dropped out as we approach an island. We assumed the skele ship following us might disappear as the Meg does, but it just kept circling the island firing canons pretty accurately each time it passed. That basically meant one person had to stay on the ship to repair whilst the other tackled the mission. Couldn't do that solo! It did eventually disappear after 5-10 minutes but by then we had almost run out of wood supplies
Previously skele ships were in a particular area that you could avoid and even if you accidentally triggered them you could sail out of their area. I don't mind the Meg being random because you can just run to an island if you don't want to engage. Skele ships should also be a choice because otherwise they just add tonnes of time to whatever you are doing.
@goedecke-michel She bites back :) Had her take a nice chunk out of a skeleton ship that was attacking us last night.
@genuine-heather
I am genuinely curious on what you do different then me. I have been merged twice in my entire Sea of Thieves career. Do you play during odd hours for your timezone?@nabberwar Yeah I think I have only been merged once since the beta, and once in beta. At least I have only received the on screen message twice that I'm aware of.
@xcalypt0x Oh yeah, and it's b****s too, I watched one of the megalodon's single-handedly sink a skeleton galleon, it was amazing.

I am genuinely curious on what you do different then me. I have been merged twice in my entire Sea of Thieves career. Do you play during odd hours for your timezone?Yes, I often play during non-peak hours. Last night's session was between 1AM and 7AM EST. I don't think the designers (and perhaps testers) take this into account. They're not seeing this happen because, like you, they don't play during off-peak hours when servers are quite likely to empty out frequently. No exaggeration, I was merged over 10 times in one session. That is outrageous.
