People really don't understand how bad the doubloon situation is. This "Economy" is beyond broken. No fix in sight.

  • I got this game about a week after it released. I stuck around for all the FOMO until seasons were introduce. I had too many other seasons going on in other games sapping too much of my time I was a bit put off by the idea of having even more tedious grinds in the game that was nothing but tedious grinds. I have admitted in the past after returning that I am actually impressed with how generous they were with ease of completion of their season pass compared to other games. That being said this debate over passively earned doubloons while all seasonal rewards cosmetics included are passive. Since I wasn't around I don't know if the first few seasons were actually longer to complete and they made it easier. But that's besides the point. So yea... This intro is beating a dead horse. It's obvious this incorrect decision is locked in place. So... Onto the point of the post.

I skipped season1-4. Fairly certain I came back for season 5, though looking at the features of Season5 I can't imagine what would have drawn me back in. The only thing I can think of is I returned after quitting World of Warcraft. I recall when I came back the Dark Adventurer set being so expensive ate up a lot of my money. Doubloons still seemed useless so I cashed a bunch in to recoup some of that cost. Huge mistake it turns out. While I have purchased the majority of the past season items I wanted from the shops at a pretty steep doubloon cost there have been others that I was on the fence about. Like there's some gloves and a belt I would pick up, but at 600 doubloons each? Considering I had previously cashed literally all my doubloons in. That's asking a lot.

I hopped in today to go check out the shops and see what I might want to spend doubloons on and how much I would need before the wipe. Keeping in mind they have gate kept the cost of the cosmetics they will be adding next month as part of this condolence prize for the currency wipe. I have literally no idea how much I would need for those alone. I feel I have grinded for a fair amount of doubloons these past seasons. For at a good few years now I have weighted doubloons as a much more valuable currency than gold and the high cost of all the past season cosmetics has me being very picky about what I will and wont buy because of it taking much longer to obtain. I know there are some fellow players here since the launch of the game, but unlike me they stuck around and got all these cosmetics I am looking at for free. Also as they never quit their gold and doubloon income never paused for 4 whole seasons so the DA set probably didn't even put a scratch in their mountain of gold. So they might not understand the situation. Basically I decided to make a little shopping list of what I might purchase if I happened to have doubloons left after these time limited condolence cosmetics are added. Though they way they talk about how fat everyones doubloon wallets are I can't imagine 7,000 would even buy one item but since for some reason its a huge darn secret...

    So numbers...
I have 119,440,280 gold and 7,780 doubloons. I have totaled up items I would have purchased if they weren't so darn expensive. I am looking at a total of 12,900 doubloons to purchase some of the old seasonal cosmetics I have had my eye on. So yea I can't even afford that right now I can't imagine I will even be able to afford what ever they are about to add.

The real problem of this games economy is revealed to anyone who just looks at the shops. We have new cosemtics added for 2000-5000 gold. So 1 chest? With the amount of loot we obtain in this world. Who is all this insanely cheap stuff for? The majority of the gold items in the shop are priced WAY too low. Meanwhile the doubloon prices are WAY too high to justify 700 doubloons on some tattered gloves or 1500 doubloons on a mid tier jacket. And then you have the recolors of the bilge rat adventures cosmetics, which are now being brought back so why even keep the recolors in the game? Point being there.... Those recolors were priced in line with the original bilge rat cosmetic cost. So one of these recolored weapons will cost you 15-25 doubloons. While a past season weapon will cost you 700-1500 doubloons. I've said many times doubloons just need to be removed from the game. Then rework the prices on everything. But since you just want to have this doubloon problem be another Rare never learning from their mistakes and history being doomed to repeat itself...We're just gonna delete currencies every few years.

The shops need to be reworked. I feel most gold prices should in the very least have a 0 added to them. Perhaps all old seasonal cosmetics just be turned to gold costs, or lower the costs since you are doing this reset just for the sake of the bilge rat cosmetics coming back and aren't even thinking about the current cost of doubloon items in the other shops. Honestly most of the old season cosmetics too ugly to have such a high price tag. The ones I have my eye on might be slightly above mid tier in the looks department.

It's no wonder the currency is out of control when all new cosmetics being added are basically handed to us for free at such low gold costs. While the game is literally dropping a whole bank worth of gold on our heads every season. This is Rare in a nutshell. Laser focused on a minor zoomed in portion of a problem vs taking a step back and seeing where the real problem lies. I would even go as far as to say if you increase the cost of the gold cosmetics in the shops. Look at what us year 1 players have in our wallet and deduct the difference to drain some of this. Considering we have no home in this game and all that gold literally has to be in our pockets... One might be able to joke that day1 players can't even play the game because their characters are unable to move due to the weight of all this gold. Basically trying to solve the doubloon problem via deletion but keeping all source of doubloons unchanged. Not reworking price of existing doubloon stuff, and not re-balancing gold at the same time? This upcoming "economy balancing" should have been EVERYTHING. Gold & Doubloons rework. Across the board. Re-balance prices, re-balance loot pay outs, re-balancing pay reputation as lowering loot values would be slowing down leveling (or that could be a good thing). Re-balancing such a small part of a hugely flawed system instead of the whole thing just seems short sighted.

  • They did say the In shop items with doubloons will be gold priced later.

Yeah they really need to look at the numbers and go thru everything with a fine-toothed comb here. With this reset, it seems like they're making more work for themselves, balancing the value of doubloons vs. gold and setting prices for different cosmetics and reputation gains. It reminds me of when World of Warcraft introduced Azerite gear, each item for your character had something like 11-15 different traits you had to select (giant radial with 5 rings of options). It was a nightmare for the players as well as the developers who had to try and balance the game with all that.
