XBOX One X 60 fps mode

  • Rare, if you read this, is it possible to program a 60 fps 1080p(or sub 1080) into the game? I've seen a lot of people asking for this and I too would really like to see such a mode.

  • That is a good suggestion.

    It should go into:

  • Really disappointed they didn’t givd us any options on the X. Big third party games like monster hunter, rise of the tomb raider, hellblade etc all give us the option of prioritise graphics, prioritise frame rate and prioritise resolution.

I mean I love the game in 4K but I’d choose 1440p 60fps over it all day. Even 1080p 60fps. I play SoT’s on my MacBook Pro through boot camp when I’m away from home and that runs at 60fps... 😢

  • cpu limited. pretty much why they go from 900p to 2160p.

  • @ant-heuser-kush I'm one of those people who still plays on a 1080p screen so right now we're not benefiting at all. Besides that...for me framerate is way more important than graphics.

That's an old story everyone pin on Xbox X each time game doesn't run in 60fps. SoT is hardly stressing a CPU, you can see that on PC. There's literally close to zero physics in this game other than water, AI almost doesn't exist (even NPC's just stand there and do nothing), almost no interactable objects etc etc. Nothing that would go heavy on the CPU. There are tons of 60fps games on old and new Xbox that are way more demanding. Look at Halo 5 Warzone. Very fast paced, 32 players at once, tons of physics and effects going on + around 100 NPC units of a different kind with one of the best AI's that have to somehow react to those 32 players in various situations. It runs at butter smooth 60 fps on Xbox One and Xbox One X (native 4k/60 on X). I don't want to discredit Rare, they're great, but the only reasons SoT doesn't have 60FPS mode is lack of development time/resources or lack of skill to pull it off.

  • @captain-surgee
The water physics is handled by "the cloud" so there is even less work for the CPU to do.

I agree it would be nice to see a 1080p/60fps mode put into the game for Xbox One X owners (me included) but if it doesn't come I wont complain, loving the game as it is.

There are more bottlenecks on consoles though, due to integrated GPUs, so that is the main limitation. While it's not overly stressing on PC, the game isn't optimised to a point where it runs ultra smooth.

I still have frame-rate issues running the game on a Ryzen 7 1700x and GTX1060 6GB at any graphics quality. It will maintain 60FPS 1080P most of the time but some areas (like Plunder Valley) will see it tank to 30FPS.

While it's true there isn't a hell of a lot of moving features in the game (besides the amazing water physics), there are still a lot of individual objects that are "glued" together and each of those needs to do computations regularly. Part of what Rare are doing at the moment with updates seems to be optimising areas by cutting down the number of discreet objects and how often they call on the CPU (I think it was Katt that posted a techblog on this topic a month or so ago).

So there is every hope that one day the game will be optimised enough that they can confidently release a 60FPS version for Xbox One X but, right now, the bandwidth simply isn't there.

  • @hudson-rl How did you manage to get it to run at 60FPS on a Macbook Pro? I can barely get 20 FPS on cursed settings on mine.

You obviously weren't a PL at the time of this post, lol.

  • @semi-amateurish unlocking 60 fps in 1080p in xbox x would be obligation considering that we play with pc players that has advantage in fps and by being on the mouse and keyboard.

  • @luiz-roberto-e I play on Xbox X and I always have to stay behind on the boat as a lookout (if we being chased or attacked) because I cant aim for sh*t with 30 fps and this horrible hit box. It's so hard.

  • Would love to see this implemented. I quit playing because of the 30 fps cap. One the one x i refuse to play games capped at 30 fps. This game need a performance mode. Hell id even take uncapped Frame rate.

  • @svg-saucey i agree with you, but why ressurect a months old thread @Deckhands a lock maybe ?

  • Any news on this?
I play on Xbox One X and Surface Book 2, but since I played SoT on PC I cannot get back to Xbox One X locked at 30 fps.
