No Game makes me Rage like SoT!

  • Yep.... I admit it. This game has the ability to make me rage like NO other game can.

We have all heard similar stories. I'm solo slooping and, of course, another galleon bests me and takes all my hard earned loot. It's fair right? It's a pirate game. It's a PvEvP game. People will do that in this sort of game.

I'll be the first to say that to other solo sloopers. But when it happens to me.... boy does it get my blood boiling. I want revenge. I want to sink them over and over and over. I want to complain to someone about how unfair it is to be attacked by a galleon in a solo sloop even though it's not really. In my head, I'm swearing at them and cursing left, right and centre. I'M SO ANGRY! ARRRRRGGH

There is something deeply and intrinsically enraging and annoying about someone casually sailing over and just taking all the loot for which you've worked solo. It infuriates me. Especially when they get away with it. With the new spawn locations it's hard to track them down so you have any chance of reclaiming what you lost.

So in the end, my only option is to vent on a forum because, at the end of the day, I lost. They bested me. They won. Time to suck it up and try again.

  • @evasive-envy better luck next time pirate ;)

  • @mighty-ace123 Thank you! Breathe in..... breathe out....

  • Unfortunately, we just have to learn to deal with these emotions as we play. Just yesterday, I was given the simplest and most rewarding merchant voyage I've ever seen; Bring three golden snakes and one pink pig to dagger tooth Op. Galleons grave, my starting point, is right next to that, so I decided to stop at the small island in between them. I already knew it had everything I needed. So when a sloop was camping it for a few days, you can imagine my distress. I sailed to two other islands without finding anything. Eventually I came back and they were gone, so I worked fast. Jumped ship, got the pig after five minutes wandering around, jumped ship again got the first snake jumped ship got the second one got bitten jumped ship found the third one bot bitten again the pig died didn't care sailed away made it on time AND it was over.

It wasn't great, and it was one of the most stressful situations I've ever been in. But as you learn to turn things around for yourself, you find the solution. I know that every player is able to find their own way of calm assessment. Because if the autistic kid (me) figured it out, surely there is a way for everyone to bring things back to a positive light?

    I hope so at least.

  • @ardent-38 Being positive is the only thing left to do. I'm an adult, I'll rage, but I will never be rude to another player or harass them using chat or messages.

I have enough emotional intelligence to know when to step away for 5 minutes, take a few breaths and have another go!

  • @evasive-envy Yeeeeeees thank you. We need that PMA bro!

  • Plenty more loot in the sand, loads of heads to chop. The loot comes the loot goes.

I also have had many a salty sea dog moment until i realised that the pve element of the game is so PvP has an actual win/lose.
In reality you gain/lose so little in comparison to what is available and tbh what you can buy with all that lovely booty is well, uninspiring to say the least so losing the chance to buy that new hat isn't that big of a deal.

  • @evasive-envy Saw a pretty dressed up galleon picking on what looked like a newbie galleon.

While investigating the situation and trying to loot a near by shipwreck the pretty gallon killed me with a cannon ball boarded me and took my only chicken Goldie.

Meanwhile my first mate shot himself over to the galleon that was getting picked on and got them moving and helped them fix up there ship.

After getting them to a safe harbor they were able to sell there treasure and we made some new friends.

All the while in the back of my mind was Goldie my chicken....

I looked up into the sky to pray for Goldie and ask Neptune to take care of her and low an behold in the distance I saw a skull fort appear before my eyes.

I'm not a vengeful man nor am I stubborn or cruel but why my chicken?

I told my new friends... The people who were harassing you are likely heading to that fortress right now, If you all can follow my orders we can take that fort from them.
You can have all the treasure I'm doing it for Goldie so we got a deal?

They were such a rag tag group of kids disorganized and new to the game but I gave them my word and they had my trust so they got in there galleon and we sailed together to the outer boundary of the fort where we parked it.

There going to be watching this galleon its going to loom over them over here while we go over there (I point out a different fort on the map) We don't have much time there an organised crew and they will work the fort quickly.

At the other fort we can only find three explosive kegs and that's when my first mate tells me "the fort its been defeated!"

We had the wind and I had three keggers up on the sail arm. We approached from the other side, they never saw us coming, they were likely watching that empty decoy galleon when I rammed them.

My boys executed perfectly... As I bounced off there ship and pulled away I heard the chain reaction of all three explosions, I told them to make sure and spread out, they were each able to make it to a different deck when I heard them go off.

Everybody died on that ship and the back of my sloop was full of holes I needed to patch. I was the only survivor of that triple keg attack.

"I sure am glad they pushed back those re-spawns" I told my first mate as he spawned onto my sloop. The other team I was with re-spawned on that decoy ship we had parked a little way off... They came in and helped clean up as we loaded up the sloop with all the treasure.

You don't need to play alone because you can't find the right people to play with. You just need to find ways to work together and try to make yourself someone other people can play with. Don't give up on finding those ways and people because being strong is being social keeping your word and taking care of your crew.

  • @sml-chief Stories like that make me smile. I have a group of friends that play later in the day so I tend to solo sloop earlier.

Great story by the way! Thanks for sharing. Golden moments like that remind us why we love the game so much!

  • @SML-Chief Lol, great story that.

  • A galleon fully manned against a solo sloop?
Most likely unmanned at the time?
    They 'Bested' you?
    I think not.
You never had a fighting chance.
True, I've managed to outrun/outsail galleons, but I had a fighting chance, as I was already underway and saw them coming.
But in an open fight, not a chance - you can't sail, manage the helm/sails, fire your cannons and repair incoming damage all at the same time as a solo sailor.
No - bested? I'd use that term if I was on a fully manned galleon and they sunk me, looted my treasure. THAT would have been a reasonably fair fight. At least both had the same tools.
How well they handle those tools is another story...

  • the sea r rough for solo sloopers..yesterday i was on a pure pvp server, they were just chasing ,1 galleon n two sloops.shootin each other all the time n me,they dosent made voyages for sure, cause i sight them every 15 minutes,i had to drive 3 times to the same island. they just got nothing from me,just a waste of time for both.

  • @evasive-envy I feel the same way , you know us fellow lone sloopers dont have to fire everytime we see a ship , we could have a truce signal and fellow lone sloopers could work together kinda like the merchant ships in ww2 had a convoy or at least let the truce signal be a new pirate code you dont break. What BURNS me is I dont think you even get points for wrecking another ship but here is a tip, the minute they fire i scuttle the ship. I already know they are going to win so why give them the satisfaction of a battle.

  • @captmarti You're definitely on to something!

  • Amoung sloops if we see each other neither one fire for ten seconds that means truce lets talk, if you are fired on right away , you know they are just a someone that wants to sink you. How bout that, then pull up next to each other BREAK this code and all us fellow lone sloopers will put your name all around as a rookie pirate and have every lone sloop after you. Any other ideas. thats just a suggestion.

  • @evasive-envy see below

  • @weedstar-deluxe Hey at least they got nothing from you. That's a slight win. Good job!

  • Is the the SoT support group? To be honest every other time I play is an emotionally enlightening experience. Not to mention the strengthening of communication between me and me mateys.

Had an instance of gameplay the other day where we had almost completed a fort while fighting off two different galleons. When were about to finish two more galleons and a sloop show up. Glorious battle ending with all involved losing their boats to the sea. I was fortunate enough to wash ashore with one of our attackers. As he foolishly faught skellies I hid and survived, awaiting my buddies to return. The other pirate didn't last long so I find meself in the midst of a handful of skellies. As the last explodes in front of me I look out toward the direction my mates are coming from to see the kraken envelope our galleon... Luckily my boys have mad sailing skills and were able to escape and come collect our hard earned spoils.
The stress levels were high that day! Enjoyably so.
Had similar instance(less interesting) to the one described and lost everything due to Cyanbeard. That brings out the emotions in a major way.

I love how therapeutic this game can be ;-)

  • @cloudedmonkey Oh of course, there are moments when it's very therapeutic, relaxing, rewarding and just plain fun.

I'm not in a constant state of rage. Most times I lose and I'm ok with it. I would not be playing if I was always enraged. It's just those moments as described above.

  • @evasive-envy Oh I wasn't implying anything. I was simply giving a poorly explained example of similar rage. I was not calm or collected during the exchange described, haha quite livid actually.
I rage quit and cuss every other time I play this game haha (mostly due to Almond and Cyanbeard)

  • @cloudedmonkey I could imagine! Sounded intense my friend. I do hope they sort out those connection errors for players.

Happy, therapeutic sailing! (With no rage)

  • @sml-chief Great story, really made me smile - for Goldie!!!

  • @katttruewalker I think a lot of people can relate to sml-chief's story.

  • @sledgezapper64 It's funny that you mentioned that. I was wondering whether to put the term 'bested' my self but I decided to go with it.

I was worried people would consider this post a complaint if I used a different word and I would get some 'git gud' posts or posts from annoyed PvP players. I wanted to avoid that kind of conversation so stuck with 'bested'.... you know.... just in case!

  • @evasive-envy This happened to me recently but even worse, PC Hacker Race

  • I do this. Straight away ill say to people its a pirate game get over it, but then it happens to me and im like c**p game, f**k life.

    Then i get over it.

Thats the difference between us and alot of other players. We can get over it and get back to enjoying the game but most kid gamers will have one bad experience then badh the game on forums, crying and never play again.

Love the game myself though. Cant wait for content in may

  • @apurple3leph4nt I couldn't have said it better myself!

  • @cloudedmonkey I had a very therapeutic night after we completed a skull fort with barely any resistance.... just to balance out that rage earlier today!

  • @evasive-envy yeah this game does make the blood boil. Last night me and a friend were just docking up at an island when two shall we say "people" just one shot us and stole our goods. Luckily it wasn't anything worth considerable value but it just annoys me when you get players who just wait at an outpost just to steal treasure. I just say to my self "yep I may of just failed at this game but you've failed at life" because I know people like that still live with their mum at 40 in the basement. Plus I try to play this game to relax not because my life depends on it.

  • @alphacenturion2 Totally understand! That has happened to me once. It is definitely infuriating and takes all your willpower to stop yourself from sending them a nasty message. Not many fellow pirates look favourably upon outpost campers. I certainly don't!

  • @evasive-envy How bout we just call for now any outpost a truce zone for us lone sailors and if someone comes along and try's to hit one of our brothers parked there or nearby we all drop what we are doing and go sink his um ship .. I still think everyone should have a mic for this game just a side note, If your a lone sailor , and you see another ship parked at your island that you need to get to like in your story , park or float out of cannon range and wait ten seconds, that tells them your a lone sailor , they dont fire and let you go, if they dont well word will get around and we can always camp when we find them. I think a truce Flag should be put in here one that says parley.

  • @captmarti Hopefully with the speaker system they're implementing it will be a lot easier to communicate with each other.

Video games are supposed to feel fun and exciting/relaxing. If you feel anger in unreasonable manners pleade speak to your doctor!

    And better [Mod edited] btw....
