    'These items will be priced highly, aimed as recognition purchases for those dedicated players who have spent time amassing a Doubloon fortune. We won't be sharing the cost for these items for now as we're making sure we get the prices of these just right.'

    As understandable as your reasoning is, keeping the information on the amount of dubloons completely secret is not something I can call acceptable in good conscience, given the fact you'll only give us a limited window of time to amass the necesarry funds for the purchase - many players (myself included) were flat broke, as the term goes, when we received the initial announcement on the commemorative cosmetics coming for sale before the Great Reset.

    It's absolutely fine that you're still figuring out the exact pricing but for the sake of those of us who want to get ready in advance, I believe it's just common decency to give us an estimation, so that we can make a more informed decision on whether it's worth our time to go around dedicationg so much of our free time to grinding doubloons in preparation or we should throw in the proverbial towel instead, understanding there's no force on Earth that will let us catch up with the prices in time.

    It's your game and your decisions, obviously, but I must implore you to throw us a bone so we can keep wanting to still play.

    But hey, what do I know, I'm just some random guy on the internet who's been playing the same game for over 3 years nearly non-stop - it's not like my words are worth anything, eh?

    Just bring back the Gold to Doubloon currency conversion during the time period when these mementos are available.

    EDIT: I honestly don't know if this ever existed. I swear it did, and then I looked on the Fandom page and it says it did, but I can't find pretty much any other reference to it. If it didn't exist, introduce one for that limited time.

    I think dropping the fact that there will be hugely expensive and exclusive cosmetics mere months before the reset is totally against player interest. I probably had 50k+ doubloons accumulated on my account over the past 5 years but I've been spending them on cosmetics (when they are added, like the Lucky Hand set) or gold during events that boosted gold acquired. Now I have only about 1000 and will probably not be able to buy any of these exclusive items.

    The items should be awarded based on lifetime doubloon count, or at least be reasonably priced such that someone like me would be able to still purchase them. It's totally unfair to the players that saw there was nothing to spend doubloons on and would be converting them to gold whenever we could.

    @onlydarthdude If they made it based on the lifetime amount of doubloons you collected they wouldn't get you to log in and farm hours to up their charts for the duration of the events

    7 Years later a dev awake and have a dream with a genious idea : let's reset doubloons.

    I'm more angry about the reset than bringing back OG skins which were time limited.
    So , I use to play to get collect during 'time limited period' to get theses items, now everyone will get them using doublons (without any stories about them , just go to a shop and buy)

    I'm sad to say , it's the one more mistake from the studio, and for me , it's the straw that breaks the camel's back

    If devs things that bringing back 'OG skins' throw a black market will bring back players on seas ... they are wrong...

    let's see how many veterans will leave the game... and i'm taking the 'bad decission' to leave this game... cause , Why i should still get involve in a game which didn't respect the 'real players' who started on day 1 and are still here.

    Devs should preserve them , instead casual players. but Veterans are not the target of devs and the priority is to motivate them to stay that leaving ....SOT boat is seriously starting to take on water. WHy i should help bail and keep the ship flow ?

    Please devs , give me 1 reason to stay and play at your game ?

    And At least , Instead having a black market , Devs could bring back 'OG quest to get them' Bring Back' the 'same event' as previously (Mecernaries, world event.... and other quest) during a short period and have rotation in them.
    Ex: During 2 weekend , bring back the Hungering deep , then Forsaken shores etc ... there'll be more stories than a Black Market.

    The real trouble ... There is too many things to do and some commendations are way to high for most of players.

    This is about giving a chance to obtain OG items for players who missed it, not only for casuals. The fact you played the game during the time the items were available to get, doesn't make you a 'pro' or something not a 'casual'.

    You've got a reason to 'play' this game for years ahead - shrouded shark, nothing changes for you.
    I know it maybe be sad to lose some kind of 'progression' for some part of players, but part of players that will be happy with returning these items are huge than just 1%-2% of remain veterans.

    Then you have nothing to worry about if your friends stay in the game, the community will only grow larger.

    Nowadays, even Valve returns back old time unique items (Arcanas and Personas in DotA 2), which all were paid for real money. It is not the same as in SoT you just play few hours to obtain a limited item or log in to buy golden cannons for 320 in game coins.

    In this kind of game, where one of main objectives is farm hats, new players are less likely to stay in the game because they cannot obtain rewards and skins that are no longer available. That's a good change for SoT.

    @lukitch59 the idea of bringing back the events to earn the items is more than just great! We tried doing that before the great “mission wipe” (another “wipe” that deeply hurt veteran players btw) a friend still had the westward gunpowder voyage and we went hunting for other players online who had another one trying if it was still possible to unlock wandering reaper sails before the voyages vanished into oblivion. It unfortunately wasn’t even though we managed to get our hands on the voyage bcs Duke wouldn’t spawn on Lagoon of Whispers to buy the grog chest. What a pity after all the effort we took to finally find all the voyages.

    This way I would be totally fine with newer players being able to earn the items. Also because us veterans could re-tell our old stories while we help them along the way and get a chance to re-live these “days of yore”

    Bring back the old feelings for all players - veterans and noobs, let’s fight shoulder to shoulder and maybe even see that silly ghost one day (I’m kidding, I never will)

    Sounds like a fairy tale, but one that CAN come true

    Nonetheless: Rare, if you take my doubloons, wipe gold next don’t always stop after destroying something that’s dear to me (voyages, BowS, doubloons and yes, stupid arena too) it feels like someone’s watching me just to find out

    @wakito64 Considering all the past changes that have ignored players past deeds I imagine it would be something like "We have no way of knowing how many doubloons you had earned and spent over the years" Though they have gold earned tracking on captaincy but I doubt they even considered adding doubloons to that. While they could look at commendations completed, cosmetics purchases, season pass tiers unlocked. This would be a lot of effort to setup on their end when they clearly have never cared about respecting our past progression in the past why would they now? Just like all the good feedback given here they should see this is not the way. But it is their game. This is what they want to do. Because they can't let everyone run around with a midnight blunderbus day 1 that they add it to the black market. We need to earn that 150,000 doubloons it's going to cost us. Basically currency bloat is a problem, the imbalance of how fast and easy it is to level etc had them add "Pirate profiles" as a way to add replay to the game. Bored? Just start fresh with none of your FOMO cosmetics!!! Well this failed. I doubt many have bought a 2nd pirate profile. Mostly streamers I imagine. Don't get me wrong I imagine the number isn't small by our standards a few thousand maybe. I can't imagine why anyone would do it outside of a streamer and even streamers are abandoning ship at this point.

    @onlydarthdude yea giving us basically a 1 month warning with another 1 month to earn the enough for the FOMO cosmetics for those who might have skipped some seasons and those old season cosmetics are brutal. Me min maxing my doubloon income by hoarding all the doubloon items till the end of a session to level reaper emissary for max sell value since sovereigns gets a bit less. All for what? Insult to injury they have the cosmetics made already. They could have shown us what they are, told us how much they would cost. Instead nope. Keep us in the dark about it all. We could be grinding more doubloons right now if we knew how much we needed and if we even want the cosmetics in the first place. People praise Rare so much for transparency. But they are only transparent to a point. They neglect to tell us important things, and the lack of response to the feedback to serious changes like this which disrespect players time investments are a massive blow to players mental states. I was beyond annoyed every time I got an item worth doubloons over this community weekend. I imagine I probably have enough to buy the FOMO stuff so it just felt bad getting more knowing they were going to delete them. I also picture the cosmetics are probably going to be ugly. So even more insulting. Title? who cares, Eye Patch... we already have a few other more prestigious ones than just having doubloons before the great wipe... Why would we care about this one? Sword? Cool but we already have an overwhelming amount of cool ones I doubt they can beat. Sails? Same, unless they will have the V cut that DA sails had or have some really cool glowing effects. Belt? OK... Is it going to be HUGE like some of the World of Warcraft belts? Or.... Legit 100% not trolling or joking here....     It feels like it was always meant to be this way, but either players never hit the expected accumulation rates, or other projects took precedence over Bilge Rat events.
    It's nice to see something BR! I can't recall doing anything related to this faction since 2019.

    I feel like the fumble here was leaving players with the impression that Dubloons were for the lifetime of their account despite the intention from the beginning for them to be a seasonal earned currency.

    Getting more gold with the automatic convert , it can help some pirate , but when u got +400 Millions , It won't change anything ... cause Some pirate have already bought all skins.

    What's the reward for a Day 1 player ? Nothing ...
    Dev should listen more veterans players

    The main trouble is : Too much grind for a new arrival on the seas ... Commendations were done in order that a player as something to do and unlock a skin or a reskin of a skin ... But, Thinks if u started some months ago , have u seen how many Hours you need to invest ?
    Even HG grind is way to high ... i'm playing with my little cousin since few weeks.... Even for him getting LVL 1000 will take ages due to cheaters and server instabilites.
    Why a Veteran don't want to grind LVL 9999 on HG ? Cause , he knows how many hours he should invest just for a tittle , and he knows how his mental will drop due to time that need to be invest.

    Please dev, try to reach lvl 1000 on HG , or try to get 300 Cof ... You'll realise that most of player won't do them cause they don't get time for that / or the grind take ages.

    A nerf is needed of a buff on some commendations, but How a dev can realise it , if he don't play as a gamer on SOT ?

    Sorry dev , i love your game but the way the game is involving or decission are taken , i'm seriously doubting that the game will be saved ...

    It will bring maybe tens of Y1/Y2 PvE players back, but its not going to cost players. Why are so many saving Doubloons for no reason? Just for big number? That is a mistake to save Doubloons and not spend for so long. They should buy that cosmetic they want after reset.

    I don't like to use the term "saved" we are eight years into live service with 10k+ players. There is nothing to 'save' what is needed is growth.

    That's up to you, but your statement "with nothing to spend them on" is false, there will be something to spend doubloons on before the reset.
    Also note, they won't be wiped, they will be changed into gold. But you've probably have enough of those as well.

    Not all players are Day 1 players , but i never missed a single update , any time limited event ... so i got all skins (even the one who will cameback in the BlackMarket) , so converting my doublons in gold , it's even a better joke....

    From 424 492 823 gold to + arround 65 to 75 Millions Millions of gold (+126k doublons to convert) , so i'll get +/- 500 Millions of gold , and i can't purchase anything with them, cause every skins in shop are already bought, trinkets too , i have 15 ships (can't buy more) ... I can buy only sups and fireworks , and i won't buy a 20k firework create cause it's the same value as a Chest of fortune. Maybe that's why people never buy fireworks... but who cares ? economy in sot is broken since 2019 ... And dev are doing even more mistake by providing some 'event' with 15 athena chest or 3 COF ... So how, an economy game be great , if there is too many opportunity to make 20/30 Millions during this kind of event ?

    The same , if u take the new content , Like the eternal guardian , in less of 10 min you got 125k gold...
    More dev add content , more the economy is broken...

    So reseting , won't change anything ... but my time spend on doublons will be wipe ... what's the reward for the time invested in this game (nothing....)

    That's how the state of the game is .... add more , then nerf , cause the can't handle Commendations (how many times we got a commendations nerfs?)/gold/doubloons ecomy , and i should be satisfy with that ?

    A question regarding the developer update and doubloons: Will we also get to know the pricing of the doubloon commemorative items in next week's developer update? I think it would greatly help players plan their Doubloon spending and planning their voyages accordingly. If the Doubloon reset will even still happenat the dates as planned originally, that is.

    Personally, I spent most of my Doubloons before the announcement (still got so many missed Seasonal cosmetics to buy) and am currently ignoring Season 18 in favor of farming Doubloons. I'd love to know if the items are priced in a way that someone dedicated even had the chance to get enough of them in the month of their planned release, or if it's priced to only reward the most loyal Doubloon collectors.

    I understand both approaches and I know this decision isn't easy. It's a decision that definitely will not fly with everyone, no matter which way it goes. I just want to know if the efforts of players who currently grind for Doubloons are even realistic or if we are just working towards a bigger, automatic gold-to-doubloon conversion.

    I feel like this game needs a store system similar to fortnite and rocket league. I'd rather see constant shop updates than re-skinned missions over and over. Maybe 2 big content updates a year and focus on releasing new cosmetics daily/weekly. I see no reason we can't have crazy animated sails and ship hulls like Rocket League. Make people want to get on everyday to make sure they don't miss any time limited cosmetics. The game is insanely easy to get massive amounts of gold. I don't even do pve and I manage to end my voyage with 3 million gold in a single sitting. Currency in this game is pretty pointless. Everyday, I get on and have nothing to spend gold on

    Commemorative that we don't have the prices for yet - are before the reset.

    Bonecrusher and other old items - new black market - after reset and during Bilge Rats Weekender at Duke. Larinna will have old season items (not detailed if new old season items, or the ones that are now for doubloons and will be for gold, so very confucing).

    dont delete doubloons. delete gold instead. and by delete i dont mean temporarily. i mean remove the currency altogether.

    i think i saw someone comment this a way back but kinda the reverse. they recommended removing doubloons from the game completely and just converting everyones doubloons to gold. now you only have 1 currency you guys need to worry about balancing. this is honestly the best choice for rare. the doubloon situation is of your own making. it will happen again. and is currently the same problem with gold.

    the reason i say kill gold instead of kill doubloons.. while we do relate gold to pirate treasure doubloons just sounds cooler? and is also pirate related?

    the idea is you guys mismanaged having 2 currencies. both have become worthless because of it. having 1 currency is just easier for you guys to deal with. so this is honestly just a suggestion to make your guys life so much easier. like legit trying to help you out. why give us 2 useless currencies then try to yo-yo between balancing each one years after it would be appropriate to do so?

    i know this isnt a debate. despite the fact you guys are 1 million % wrong on this decision because youre not looking at your game or the actual factual math. you are looking at the high data points of what year 1 players have. you havent even considered how many items you have in game that cost doubloons as it is. you are factoring in how many 1 time ways of acquiring doubloons are now locked out to old players. you arent considering new players trying to farm this hard to obtain currency.

    the reality of the situation is doubloons are still RARE and the price of the current doubloon items is too high to buy on a whim. we need 150 THOUSAND doubloons to buy the stuff currently in game....... and youre going to deleting our doubloons because we were too stingy to buy a 700 haircut

    The community is still unsure what "priced highly" means.
    The currently available items from past seasons were already "priced highly" to encourage players to earn them right away (and reward players who played in the seasons those items were active rewards).
    Others might argue that's not high enough.
    Even others might claim placing them in the range of past season items is too high when it is said "you will still have a month to earn them". Especially as there has been no further communication on this past this initial announcement - which includes the dev update last week. So players less up-to-date might have missed the announcement and spent their Doubloons in Outpost shops or on Gold conversions. So to many, earning them in a month might not be feasable with more communication in that regard if it is priced too high. Which I understand might feel more rewarding for those who didn't spend their coins for a considerable amount of time, but is quite unsatisfying to those who used the currency for it's intended purpose and spent it before the announcement.

    It's also unclear if Doubloons can even be earned at the same frequency as they can be earned right now starting with Season 19, since you said Doubloons will be rarer in the future. E.g. will there even be repeatable actions that give Doubloons like Reaper Chests or ashen tomes? Or will that turn to gold as well and move Doubloon-income to Season Passes and Bilge Rat Events?
    Will that already start with Season 19 or just post reset in April?

    Getting a clearer outline of the timeframe and scale of these things would greatly help in planning voyages accordingly.

    Hey Everyone, with many players wanting further details on our approach to the commemorative items being introduced to the game - were adding the following info to the OP of this topic to address those common questions!
     

    I've collected lots of Doubloons, are these just going to be lost?

    So - prior to the full reset, Larinna will begin offering a range of exclusive new commemorative Doubloon-themed items in her store that can be purchased with said coins. She will offer the:

    • 'Doubloon Hoarder' Title - 50 Doubloons
    • Eye Patch - 500 Doubloons
    • Belt - 1,000 Doubloons
    • Sails - 2,500 Doubloons
    • Cutlass - 50,000 Doubloons
       
      These items have been priced across a broad range, providing all players with the opportunity to snag a commemorative item before the reset takes place on April 16th.
       
      While the vast majority of our players will find they can afford most of the items on offer, the Cutlass is purposefully priced at a level to truly recognise our most dedicated Doubloon gatherers who have spent their time amassing a Doubloon fortune over many years.
       
      For players wanting to bag themselves one of these commemorative items, they will be available for purchase from Larinna from March 19th till April 16th, so there's still a chance to earn some Doubloons and grab the items before they go.

    Or those who didn't use them as-intended. Man, talk about a slap in the face to those who converted a ton of them to gold over the years or who actually spent them on items.

    I guess the lesson here is to keep hoarding.

    I spent or converted doubloons over the years because there wasn‘t stuff to do with them. Made sure to keep between 10 - 15 k in case of a reset. Now I regret it. Bruh. Only way I could afford 50 k is converting gold but that‘s not possible anymore.

    I've been playing for years and barely ever spend my doubloons and I'm at 22,000. I can't remember the last time I spent any, honestly.

    I'm sure you have access to the metrics, and you know just how many players have over 50,000 in their bank. I understand wanting to reward players who were hoarding, but this feels beyond absurd. Surely a middle ground can be reached.
