Creator Spotlight - Alactar

In our latest Creator Spotlight is someone who enjoys breaking and setting records on the Sea of Thieves: Alactar! We asked him some questions about his Voyages across the seas so far, and what experiences those travels have brought him.

[Q]: What was your introduction to the world of games?

[A]: Been gaming all my life. The first game I played was Pong on the old Atari, my dad’s since he was a kid. Been crushing that game until my father bought me a Game Boy (I took the TV over too much). I only started playing PC in 1998 and the first games I played were Quake and Duke Nukem. Until now I have been stuck on PC!

[Q]: How did you become part of the Sea of Thieves community?

[A]: I heard of Sea of Thieves from another gaming channel when the game was in Technical Alpha. From there I saw the unique concept as a must-have game. I love the mixture of grinding loot and PvP. The risk of losing the loot makes it even better. Also, stealing it is a hell of a lot of fun.

[Q]: How did creating content become your ‘thing’?

[A]: It all started when I played DayZ and people I played with started asking if I wanted to stream. Then some friends convinced me to go live. I love the mixture of playing a game and having people who are interested in the same game. I fell in love with the community. Love you guys!

[Q]: What are some of the challenges you’ve faced while creating content?

[A]: Time for editing is the curse of a lot of live streamers. As a father who likes to spend time with the family, I try to do everything gaming-related while they are in bed. Also, to be honest, I don’t like editing; it’s the live streaming I fell in love with. Nonetheless, to promote myself, some editing needs to be done!

[Q]: What different channels do you have?

[A]: I stream on both YouTube and Mixer, and I make stream announcements on Twitter. I do also post on Twitter and Discord when I’m about to go live, releasing highlight videos or when I’m having ideas and like to have input from the community. They have been helping me a lot during our adventures.

[Q]: What’s been your most memorable Sea of Thieves moment so far?

[A]: Recently the grinds we have been doing, as I’m trying to become the richest non-Alliance pirate in the game. We have been in a few amazing moments where we’ve had to fight off ships while having X amounts of loot on our own ship. The reactions to our Open Crew Giveaways been amazing too.

[Q]: What do you enjoy most about the game now, and what are you looking forward to in future?

[A]: I love the new Fort of the Damned and I do hope we get more of these revamps. (Maybe Flameheart with firebomb-throwing skeletons?) The fights on the Fort remind me of release when we were fighting on Forts for over three hours. It was as stressful as it was wonderful, and it’s the reason why I love the game.

[Q]: What’s something you’re particularly proud of accomplishing in gaming?

[A]: My massive loot hauls. I love doing them – set sail and collect loot for 12-24 hours then turn it in after the clock reaches zero. It’s that high-risk, high-reward balance that makes it worth it. We did lose some grinds due to either combat or volcanoes, but we all know “ship happens”.

[Q]: How did you come up with your channel name?

[A]: The name is a mixture of World of Warcraft NPC greetings. I've been using the name since WoW’s second expansion to use in all of the games I play. The cool part about it is that people sometimes remember my name from other games and ask me if I played the game. I do think a gamertag is important, it’s a second identity for gaming where you can be public and private at the same time.

[Q]: What advice would you give to a new content creator?

[A]: Have a schedule and try to stick to it. It helps you as much as your viewers. I can’t always be live on time myself due to having a family, so make your viewers aware that your schedule might be off a bit. If you can’t go live, leave a post on your Discord and social media. Most importantly, have fun with what you do – see it as a hobby and not as a job.

[Q]: What’s one thing you would advise a content creator not to do?

[A]: Do not copy other content creators, just be yourself. People will come for you and for who you are. It might start slow, but over time it will always pick up. We all started with having one viewer so treat that viewer well, make them feel at home and they will come back next stream, and might bring friends!

[Q]: Could you give us one more random fact about yourself?

[A]: I'm a husband and father to two lovely children. My older daughter is six years old and my younger is one year old, and they always come first. I do love live streaming but I also know what is more important in life.
