Me and a friend were transporting a stronghold barrel on a sloop and for safety measures i moved it from the crows nest down to the hold because we ahd trough a storm and i placed it in the middle so it wouldn't explode if something hit the sides.
We go trough the storm, get hit by lightning and instantly die because somehow that barrel exploded. Is this intended? this realy shouldn't be possible in my humble opinion.
Lightning hitting trough wood
I once carried a golden snake with me through a storm (stored below deck next to the equipment chest), and my sloop was struck by lightning twice. When I went below to patch up, I was greeted by an empty snake basket. I learned that lightning strikes produce some AoE splash damage the hard way as well, though admittedly not as tragically as having a barrel explode...
Keep those barrels in the crow's nest, so you'll just have to repair the mast when they get struck.

@bactatankbill I do agree with ur statement. But stronghold will damage hull even in crows nest. I would still leave it up there though and do heavy repairing once blown up.
Didn't notice OP said SH barrel... that changes things a bit. Nowhere is safe from one of those bad bois when they explode...
@comrade-fluffs
Should have sailed around the storm. And never NEVER store gunpowder barrels of any kind below deckLike the OP, I learned this lesson the hard way as well, but months ago, prior to their being mega-kegs. So, luckily for me, I survived my explosion.
I also had an intense moment last week while doing the reaper run - we dug up a SGPB in the middle of the storm and had to transport it out. There's not much that gets more terrifying than that in the SoT, let me tell you!
