This is ridicolous! Cant refund while i cant play at all (Ashbeard error) - tried all solutions

  • Hi, this is a stuff od madness i say, mateys!
    Two weeks ago I got a new gaming laptop - it runs everything perfectly (even a star sailing citizen game). Sea of thieves is the only game that made to use microsoft account instead of local. And here is the catch - I've not been able to login at all. Not even "firststart" login to Xbox Live Pc Beta. When i use the usual account button (top right) in the app to try to log in the app does nothing. Tried everything from SoT forums about ashbeard error, windows is up to date (just double checked), even microsoft support guy took control of my screen to check the app to no avail, tried reinstalling, resetting and repairing all the apps etc. Has anyone else encountered this problem with xbox live beta app? Windows store login and website works just fine with no hussle. This is ridicolous, been trying for two weeks, paid money, been waiting to play this game since it was first announced and now i cant play it due to some stupid xboxlive issue. And now I find out that i cant get a refund because i bought digitally. Guess im gonna stay in the locker forever and cant and will never ever buy anything from Microsoft store again when it comes to games because i cant use them. Shame!

  • I had this problem. I had to make my XBOX Live Profile the sign in for the PC itself.

    For example my XBOX Live profile is also a Microsoft Account.

    Once I made that the Log In for the PC I had no issues.

  • Well you can’t really blame the game. I was a PC Gamer since the Commodore 64...made the switch to console around the time Rainbow 6 Vegas hit X360.

    Always something with PC. I console game now but have 3 kids with 3 power rigs and it’s ALWAYS SOMETHING!

    Where console I pick up the controller, chill lax on the couch and just enjoy. No issues, no problems.

    Make sure the Store Log In is the Account you have that owns the Game Pass.

    Have you tried a different game? Try State if Decay if no games work the. It’s an account set up issue not a game issue).

    Make sure you are logged in as a user with access to the accounts stuff that owns the Game Pass.

    Make sure the OG original user log in of the PC is the same as Account that owns the Game Pass. (For example If they are not the same you HAVE to be “Family” Members).

    Go to your main accounts settings and you can do all that there as well as control online access, friends features, messaging, etc.

    Make sure you have the Microsoft Authenticator set up on your phone (it’s an app).

    If that don’t work buy a used XBOX for 150 bucks.

  • @glannigan same here, i've had a break from pc gaming for 6 years. i get back and problems straight away. only this one, bear in mind. i dont need gamepass on pc to play SoT so i dont think this will help. also the problem is with Xbox Live beta app itself. it doesnt login at all when i start it and does nothing when i try to log in through the app. windows store logs in fine as well as my laptop login is my microsoft account.

    Just trying to help not like this helps but there are 2 separate apps you have to download.

    One is like the XBOX Companion app Or some stuff like that. That enables the friends and groups stuff.

    The other is the one you have the XBOX Beta make sure you have both apps downloaded, logged in and running.

    Wish I was how I’d give link or ayleast the accurate names to both.

    Might not solve it and purely guesswork on my behalf (based on personal experience mind you), make doubly sure you are only signed in with ONE account (that has access to SoT) on the PC and not signed in anywhere else (Xbox, another PC etc).

    If the same account/Gamertag is signed in on different devices at the same time when SoT is launched it causes(caused) issues.

    Signing in to another device/account doesn't mean you are signed OUT of other devices (as I found out to my own annoyance).

    That’s a good point. Again under your main account sign into your account management. Your
    Only allowed so many devices...clean that up.
