Don't Bother Posting These:

  • I've noticed a lot of posts saying the same things. To save time, here's what you shouldn't post, and why:

    I want PvE servers/peaceful mode/etcetera!

Rare said no. Anyway, if it weren't for piracy (you might know it as greifing), this game would be insanely boring. If it weren't for other players, you would never lose treasure. Seriously, you can negate every PvE threat in the game by keeping your treasure in a rowboat. If you couldn't lose, you'd be insanely bored. Be glad you can lose.

Sloop isn't fair! Give Solo Players a Chance!

The sloop, especially solooping, is delibrately hard. That's to encourage sloop players to find a crew, because that's the optimal experince. Crew up, it's more fun, I promise.

I Was Attacked By Many Things At Once!

Cool. Sometimes you sink. Get over it and learn from failure.

    Cheaters/Toxic Players!

Report them. Don't make a forum post.

    Bug!

Raise a support ticket. Don't post that here. We don't care.

    Crossplay Unfair!

Yes, PC has an advantage. Yes, opt-out is coming. Yes, it's taking too long. Yes, it should've been here earlier.

I'll edit if I think of any more.

  • @wilbymagicbear Thanks for the post lol... one correction RARE may add private servers at some point in the future :)

  • Although I personally agree because I am sick aswell of seeing those same threads, I feel posters should post whatever they like.

That said, they shouldn't be surprised or whine if people are sick to hear about it too and don't give much support to ideas repeated dozens of times over.

I certainly think there should be a couple more megathreads to contain those threads, but in the meantime I suppose we simply have to civilly discuss and remind people why their ideas aren't necessarily well thought, even if most of the time those posters know full well those ideas have been discussed to death and are just trying to repeat themselves louder.

The important point though is that not only they said they would most likely add those, they also said they wouldn't want people to farm gold (and probably rep) on them. Private servers enthusiasts can expect private practice servers with no progression!

  • @bloodybil Awesome... thanks for the elaboration. I think this makes sense.

Agree to an extent. But if they do somehow do this, I'd prefer if the levelling was separate from the main game and at a much slower rate to encourage players to play on PvPvE servers. But I'm not going to completely object to having choices.

No. As an introvert with social anxiety and depression, being forced into joining a crew of strangers is my worst nightmare. I play with friends when I can but 90% of the time I play solo. I can manage just fine "solooping", although I still think the damage is too OP for sloops right now (I've made the Dark Souls comparison before - this game is not Dark Souls). If they don't want people to play solo, they shouldn't have made it a choice.

    Agree... but see previous point.

Agree to all those with caveats:

    • They should have a way to report players within the game (this will become more of an issue when the Xbox gamertag system changes soon)
    • The bug report link is not easy to find on the site. I know it's deliberate but still. Also, it is kind of handy to know if others are having the same bug as you and if there is a solution. Take the issue with the game not even loading for some on PC. So I would say to do both - file a report but also make a post so we can find solutions together. Ideally, there should be a bug reports category.
    • PC has an advantage in some instances but this is not a twitch shooter. Many of us on PC play with a controller and Xbox One just got K&M support this year. There are also a lot of PC players playing on minimum spec machines that are worse than an Xbox One X in some cases. So, yeah, I agree that argument is moot.

That's not really failure though, that's bad luck. I'd more say the advice for that is for all the bad luck you get, it means you are then due some good luck. Swings and roundabouts.

  • @WilbyMagicBear

Should probably go same energy for all things and include "make forts take forever to spawn again" and "make tall tale relics valuable when stolen" and "please reverse the decision on crossplay opt out."

I mean if we're gonna try to dictate what people can post around here like we're mods or something might as well be equal about it.

Also toss "stop making threads about..." while we're at it.

  • @bloodybil I would agree with the principle of what @WilbyMagicBear is saying here - that a lot of topics have been heard many, many (many) times before...

I would not say so simply that "posters should post whatever they like" though, as this is actually against the forum rules for multiple posting.
What they should do is search for existing discussions on a topic and keep things contained.

Most frustration with the forum, especially from a lot of us Bosun has been that we see the same topics constantly in circulation, with the same arguments and often the same players in there fighting it out.
It dilutes the forum, we lose track of some truly awesome discussions that could be had and things become... chaotic!

I happen to have written a trust Search guide for folks struggling to get to grips with it a couple of days ago...

I fully agree with you, I would much rather like that people search for threads instead of repeating the same ones, no matter which side of an argument you favor. I just think saying "don't post this or that" sounds a tad hypocritical is all. As Voltaire said: "I disapprove of what you say, but I will defend to the death your right to say it". That goes both ways though!

  • @bloodybil absolutely, hence I agree on principle with the OP, just not the way he has gone about things...

  • Yeah I agree with ya there @WilbyMagicBear I'm super annoyed by the reposts of all these things.
People are allowed to voice their opinions concerns etc, but on this forum it's getting kind of rediculous.
We literally have people shouting about there being too much PvP and only agressive players and all of the people here who are on the forums regularly and play regularly are shrugging saying what?
Someone made a post asking people how they feel about how much PvP is going on right now and I've nog seen a single plerson in that thread say that there's too much PvP.

It's also mostly the people with a Reputation way lower then the amount of posts who are complaining and it's usually people demanding changes as opposed to suggesting anything constructive.

I'd love to see more actual discussions as opposed to people shouting: "I want this" and when you react with points be like: "I don't agree with you (insert insult here)"

  • @wilbymagicbear

You realize, of course, that I'm now going to have to make a new thread for each of these topics. =P

  • Not far away from make it a sticky, but they also won't read the
read before you post sticky :D

  • @acebead40319154 yes and no, private servers are aomething they where thinking about BUT private doesnt equal PVE server (otherwise known as gold grinding server) and the latter is something they said a big no to

  • You know the forum is at its lowest point when you see this kind of threads poping with the exact same members who, I wonder why really, repeats the same things over and over like they're the guardians of the Sea of Thieves lol Make a discord guys, you'll have a better time I think.

  • This thread should be stickied.

  • Havent read this thread as im too angry to concentrate on it... why am i angry i hear you ask? .... well, its because i want a pve server as i continually get griefed by toxic players on pc whilst im solo slooping!... sorry, what were you saying?...................... i know, its the lowest form of wit but i couldnt resist mate!

  • The fact of the matter is that Rare having already caved on some things means they will inevitably cave on others. The only reason to believe any differently is Rare in each case giving a detailed and coherent explanation for why each exception was made. This has not happened.

The game is being held hostage by people who want to play 'Sea of Friends' in a safe-space with no PvPers, PC players, other Xbox players if they are using a M+Keyboard and content updates geared only for them.

They are wrong but their position is not illogical: Rare have already given them reasons to keep going, so they will.

  • i agree with everything but the second. i think solo sloopers have a right to criticize weather or not going solo should be consider "hard mode." they are prey to players with more than one crew member, they have no advantages against a two person sloop, and most complaints from new players is from their solo experience which makes the game look bad to a majority of these new players.

ill always say that a solo player needs a new ship with its own unique advantages.

  • @mysticdragon297
The game was never designed to play solo. Thats why it seems unfair. Rare wasnt even gonna have the option until ppl complained they wanted it and Rare was like "alright but its gonna be hard mode being alone".
I get why ppl play solo. But how are you supposed to balance a shared world game based on team work and interaction for solo players without making it unfair for everyone else.
Solos choose to play alone. You take the good and the bad that comes with it.
Heres a fun fact. The kraken didnt use to attack sloops. The players begged them to make it attack sloops. They wanted a challenge. Well they got it. Jk jk the krakens not a challenge

  • @nwo-azcrack said in Don't Bother Posting These::

    Dude! Not cool!

Don't listen to him Karen, you're super scary and challenging.

    Whose a giant, underwater abomination?

    You are! Yes you are!

  • The folks who believe solo mode is "hard mode" need to watch Beardageddon on Twitch some time. He always solo sloops and absolutely dominates the game. Granted, he's a professional gamer who plays hours every day. But one can learn a lot from watching how he does things. One of the things I really like about him is that he never fires the first shot. He gives everyone a chance to be friendly. But if they fire at him, it's on. He almost always wins, whether he's up against a sloop, brigantine, galleon, or even multiple ships. I've learned a lot watching him and gained immense respect for the formidable little sloop.

Oh, this game was designed for solo play. Believe it. :)

  • @mysticdragon297 Soloopers could improve drastically to be on par with galleons if they would just change up their strategy and not play solo. They choose to put themselves at a disadvantage.
