A rant for the community.

  • So recently I went all stealth onto a Galleon after they finished the raid. I came out of hiding, dropped their anchor, while my teammate pulled up beside them and we sank them out in the open waters near a outpost. Everything was planned, where we would lead them and when I would drop their anchor so that turning in and collecting would be easy.

One of them called me a Summit wannabe. I don't watch stream but a few of the people I played with and even on the forums people have mentioned that summit has been playing SoT a lot.

I skimmed through some of his vids. People for the love of the god, everything he is doing is not new. He did not create, think of, or doing any of the things he is doing before the community.

Those things have been going on since release and the only reason you guys are hearing about it now is because we do not share what or how we do things for specific reasons that once it gets out the meta will change and it will get harder to rob people.

I know this sounds like a rant and probably really is. Hopefully mods will be kind enough to just lock the post and not punish me.

If someone sneaks on your boat, robs you, or does something. Its not a Summit thing, Its a SoT thing and we were doing it way before him.

Summit is one of the biggest Twitch Streamers and bringing SoT everyday in Top 5! That’s very very good for the popularity of our Game!

  • @xultanis-dragon just play the game I get told I play like/sound like people all the time take it as a compliment you must of really got to them when I pulled it off good job

  • Summit is an average player and I dislike his occasional toxicity.

I don't think he deserves the hate he seems to be getting though. Just because he makes videos doesn't make him the enemy. He's been good for bringing people into Sea of Thieves for me to rob. His influence on people doing silly things like double gunning in PVP has helped fill my hold with treasures.

He certainly didn't invent sneaking on board people's ships and getting up to shenanigans. To be honest, for those of us who enjoy that sort of thing he's barely even a Padawan. He might publicise his methods more than the rest of us, but publicising your methods is a poor long term strategy for the committed stowaway.

  • Don't think I'll ever understand the popularity of watching someone else play a video game. Pass over the game paddle, it's my turn.

  • @seamus-hound a dit dans A rant for the community. :

Do you understand people watching sports on TV? That's it, you just understood.

I think people enjoy the personalities of the people playing.

  • I would love to be called a summit wannabe.
    The guys is talented.

  • Your right he's not the first pace pretty much taught him all the tricks of the trade, He gets alot of hate but tbh it's not like he's toxic, he doesn't really use foul or derogatory language just light hearted smack talk and if others are being too rude he will mute them, he's doing exactly what he's supposed to do in a pirate game and is pretty entertaining to watch, for someone who's relatively new to the game he's damn good at what he does, most hate is just jealousy tbh I'm glad he's bringing in all those viewers to sot, sot only benefits from him playing, hopefully they bring out arena before he gets bored, arena will be huge if he's streaming it

Exactly. And in a game like SoT, where social interaction is both the point and the end game, let's be real here, it's your personality you develop in this game, not your FPS skills. Those of us who have been here since before launch all know by now that it's your ability to relate to other players that is the real skill involved in SoT. Power in numbers, if you have the ability to convince other people to work together with your words you will win. Those skills are hard to develop, but they do require practice. The fact that this game requires this sort of human interaction is what makes this game so special.

The fact that the social skills that this game requires are transferable to the rest of your life is the real gift that this game has made to human evolution. This is an important step that we as a species are taking towards our ultimate destiny and we should all have, at least, our eyes open, if not our minds

  • @jetorchidee97 with sports you get to see the competitiveness with all who are participating at a level which most can't obtain.

So... not really all that different at all.

  • Not a fan of his at all.

  • Having 60k people watch your stream, which has caused, who knows how many people to buy the game, and play it. Is a great thing.

New players, constantly, means this game is going nowhere anytime soon. He should be sponsored in some fashion from the devs.

  • @xultanis-dragon The meta is not going to change no matter how much the "tricks" are broadcast. Most people in this game are oblivious to the things going on around them.

  • Though yes that style of pirating has been here since launch. Ive been encountering 10x as much other players just chillin in my crows nest. Only once were they good but the term "summit wannabe" is quite accurate. Its actually pretty annoying. But such is the life of a pirate lol

  • @xultanis-dragon I never knew of anyone sneaking on ships pretty sure my dude summit made that mainstream.

  • I have been sneaking around since the beta. I love joyriding, watching from a sleeping position, infiltrating alliances and what not regardless of being profitable.

Being called a wannabe of a big streamer shouldn't upset you, especially when you are getting all the loot. It is a better alternative for some insults I have been called when doing these things.

  • @corrupt-fellow Pfffffffffft going to have to try harder to get under my skin with that lame attempt. Put some flair on it. Its like you don't even care enough to try. Don't I matter to you corrupt? Don't I matter....??

  • @cotu42 True enough. Its just this has happened in the past with other games. Where a popular streamer is doing stuff that the community has done for a long time, but people who watch the stream and play the game start naming the tactic or situation after the streamer. Then people who watch the streamer and then start playing the game think that the streamer was the person who created it all. I'd like the community to get credit for being the OG Pirates in the game. Not some streamer who was literally taught all his tactics by the person he plays with.

  • I think Summit is helping the community. He’s funny and not a bad player. He didn’t invent the tactics and I don’t recall him claiming to do so. It seems like a lot of new players still mistake the game for a FedEx meets archeology simulator. They resent players who attack them and are shocked when someone does a great job stalking them. Streamers like Summit help new players better understand another approach to playing the game and what to anticipate.

  • @ghostpaw I dont disagree that he is doing good for the community or that he claimed to be the one who started doing the tactics. Its just its always like that in the past where a streamer who is popular plays a game and for some reason something that has been in the game for so long turns into something that the streamer started.

The streamer never claims to have started anything. The information itself on starts to have a life of its own on it it all started.

Before streamer, tactics are known and used by a small portion of the population that try to keep it a secret so the meta doesn't change to guard it. Then a streamer starts doing it and now all the players who didn't know it was possible now know. Then they start to see it more and more and eventually they all assume it was the streamer who started the tactic.

Its just annoying is all. I shouldn't care but the PvP community has gotten so much bad press on our own and the PvE community doesn't realize how much work we really put in to do all the stuff we do. Now Summit is doing nothing but PvP but instead of the community coming against him like they do us, they rally behind him. Calling him a "Pirate" while calling us Greifers. I want more credit for my PvP bro's.

I hear you. You can’t have both. You either promote your ability by showing what you can do, or keep it a secret to protect your tactics. As you said, we’ll adjust by coming up with new ones. At least less experienced PvP players will start seeing why they lose rather than simply assuming their killer is hacking.
