Suggest-dry dock

  • A dry dock is where A ship goes for repairs. In Sea of theives players can use this to change there ship from 1 to the other without leaving the game

  • Great idea

  • @kin-h4chi I know Sea of Thieves isn't notable for their historic accuracy but a dry dock seems like a little too much, if you know what I'm saying. The idea and concept of this is good, but instead of a dry dock, perhaps something a little more... Piratey?

  • The already established docks and shipwrights are ideal.
No need for extra mapping, just coding (give ship size options) to the existing shipwright's menu.

  • I wanted these options for the longest time.

  • Devs stated this isn't gonna happen. Way to complicated to add into the game the way it's designed...

Pirates didn't have access to dry docks. They careened their ships, grounding them and waiting for the tide to go out so they could conduct repairs and remove barnacles. This was done in well-hidden areas, like remote islands or secluded inlets or estuaries.

That said, I understand your intent. It would be nice to be able to switch ships without leaving a gaming session. I believe Rare is looking into this.

Although what @mighty-ace123 said is true I personally don't think that it would be too difficult to do. Your ship type is obviously logged for each time it sinks and you are given a new version of the same ship you started with.
Therefore they could edit your logged ship type, scuttle your previous vessel and replace it with the desired model type.

So as not to be abused they could add a time stamp on the vessel change then impose a cool down period disabling changing vessel types again too soon.

Edit: It appears to be a case of only getting what Joe wants.... and when he wants it.
Remember they insisted no AI ships for months on end and now look at the cursed sails event.

  • I have an idea regarding the ship change and the alliance system.

Why not have players buy an extra ship, limited to one ship per crew to add to your own alliance. That way you have a little bit more trust in the alliance than with other players. You can still add other ships to the alliance as it is at the moment as well. Naturally your friends can choose to betray you if they want, and then the fun starts.

Basically this is what will happen, You'll go to any of the shipwrights,or maybe just one, and they will give you the option to trade in treasure for an extra ship, Like to spawn a galleon you'll need to trade in 4 captains chests,3 villainous skulls and a crate of exotic silks. No gold or rep gained from the turn in. Once you have the required treasure you can then choose the ship you want, designate a current crew member to be the captain and spawn the said ship into the world. Then invite your other friends over to join, or join your current crew over to the new ship and by doing that changing your ship ingame.

Now here's the catch, this is all reliant on if there are open slots in the current server, so you might not be able to spawn a galleon but can spawn a brigantine as there are 3 slots open to spawn in, or you might not be able to spawn anything, until slots open up. So its entirely up to you if you want to keep the loot for when slots do open up.

This will in turn cause players to keep treasure on there ships for spawning purposes, and encourage PVP play as there will actually be an incentive for sinking ships. It will allow the PVE players the needed backup for PVP encounters and for farming gold or rep as well without having to wonder if the alliance will be broken or not.

Again, limited to 1 spawn for the original crew, the added crew can't spawn an additional ship until the original crew leaves the server.

also, we need an alliance communication method as well, maybe a utility wheel with new text commands that only goes out to alliance members, asking for help, or meeting up, etc...

    Just an idea,

  • @kin-h4chi nice!!!
One more post about in-game changing ships and again there goes my upvote!!!

A dry dock(?) could be use to repair visual damage as well without scuttle our vessels!

  • It doesn't have to be an actual dry dock

It can be as simple as an option with the shipwright
