Replace Sloop Brig With Something More Useful

  • Now I don't play on a sloop often but when I do, and I've also heard this from other players, but the brig on the sloop has no purpose. It sits there looking pretty although we are unable to use it due to the fact that bringing take a majority vote.

Voting someone in the brig isn't possible and if it was you're basically playing by yourself anyways so why not turn it into something more useful? Perhaps something that could give the sloop a little more uniqueness over the galleon. The only idea that came to mind so far is an escape hatch that could be used in various ways.

What do you guys think? What else can that space be used for?

  • @dcr-lt-kanada I'd like to see the brig turned into some kind of lock-able treasure hold.

As people on the sloop are usually solo or with 1 other purpose, then the sloop is left unattended a lot of the time. The treasure hold could give solo players the actual possibility of getting back to their ship before the treasure is stolen. (I'm saying this for sloop, but to be honest I think the galleon needs this as well)

  • @dcr-lt-kanada Oooooh now your talking!

Maybe swap it out for some shelving for me to store my trinkets and trophies from my adventures!

Although, who's not to say they don't have plans for the brig on the sloop.

  • More Grog!! arrr

  • @musicmee like a trophy case

  • @dcr-lt-kanada YES! Perfect!

We need stuff like trophies and things we can earn and keep to shop off on our ship first, but I'll take the cabinet for now!

  • @thewolfman321 such as a lock box that if other pirates want to get in it they would have to lockpick it which would take some time. Maybe even make noise so you can hear it if close by.

  • @musicmee Maybe eventually people can turn their ships into a vendor stand. A pirate can have a reputations for always having that certain item you need in exchange for chest. Hm...maybe I'll make a post about such an idea.

  • @skulliah haha, I think we have enough grog.

  • @DCR-Lt-Kanada yeah exactly that! Another mechanic in game and adds a little more depth.

Although now I've heard it, I very much like @Musicmee 's idea of a trinket storage! If they add something into the game that allows us to gather trinkets from completed voyages and display them on our ships as decorations! It could also work as a mechanic, in the sense that if you board someones ship, you can steal their trinkets!

A bed? The Galleon has one.
I need to catch some Zs!

  • @sgt-palooggoo interesting

  • The Brig should get an overhaul in general.

It is meant to be a temporary punishment basically, or essentially a videogame time out. With that in mind, I don't think there should be a "Vote to Release" fiddly mess, it should just be timer based. If you get voted to the Brig you are in it for say 30 seconds, maybe 1 minute, after which point you are automatically released. You could be sent back of course if people felt it was needed with another vote, but that simplifies it nicely (and now that we have Closed and Private Crew options we don't need people using it as a non-stop lockup anymore).

If that is the case, we can also switch it to only needing a 50% vote to get someone into the Bring, which means a solo player could bring themselves (silly, but they could - and they would be auto released after a short time), and duo crews could also Brig one another as they would meet the 50% requirement on the vote with a single vote.

Should also make it so someone in the Brig can't vote someone else into the Brig (they are blocked from Votes while locked up).

Then you can keep the Brig on the Sloop.

  • @redeyesith I feel though if you have the potential to brig someone on a sloop you might as well play alone. Since needing to brig on a sloop isn't common then it should be replaced with something that makes the sloop unique.

Or you're just having some fun, or any number of other reasons you might do it (playing with your kid and they start doing something you need to prevent, etc.). And, for the sake of making it so all players have access to all the exact same stuff equally (so Galleon doesn't need a unique Brig and Sloop needs a unique something else).

With that said, it wouldn't be horrible to give it a difference, but I think addressing the underlying issue with the Brig system does fine by opening it up to Sloop players if they want to use it.

Who needs a bed when you can have a hammock. 😁

I just want a hammock...as a mainly soloer I live in my ship and I want it to reflect that.

  • @john-hatter Hah! Beat you to it! LOL! 😆

  • @galactic-geek
But a good idea is always best repeated~

  • @dcr-lt-kanada I’ve actually been brigged before on a sloop. It happened when I got 2 beard type messages in a row trying to join my friend. I think it’s there purely for afkers.

  • @elite-assasin87 Never heard of that.

  • @dcr-lt-kanada can confirm being stuck in the sloop brig, was actually literally yesterday this happened with my buddy. If it happens again I’ll be sure to record it next time. When it happened my buddy was able to vote me out of it but not back in.

This would be amazing, it would require boarding if locked up stuff would be lost to the depths, and they could have the player who locks it drop a key on pvp death (atleast half health was taken away from an enemy player before death or healing, or if pvp damage happened within a certain amount of time before being killed by a skeleton, so you can’t just run up to them and save your key) this would incentivize players to not just sink parked ships but search the island for the player with the key, and also would make boarding and capturing ships a more efficient Form of theft than sinking and retrieving, though i think some spawn changes would be needed if an entire crew is killed for example, or they could make the lock pickable with a timer of 10-15 second and maybe have a parrot that alerts the ships crew with an audio cue when the lock is being picked or something.

Or atleast add in lost npc sailors or criminals to bring to justice at outposts, maybe with faction associations so players have reason to free npc from other players ships, though this would require actual factions and reputations not just fetch quests with no faction interaction.

  • A cozy bed for the captain! Maybe with a heart pillow and a pig cuddle doll

  • @elite-assasin87 that's interesting lol

  • @enginefear

    I wan't a cooking space........
This was a Joke at first, But if they do decide to add more food/healing options, this may be something to like, cook fish so you can eat them to heal

  • @thewolfman321 you can only get the treasure by sinking the sloop then. i like it

  • @jorin33 the lockpick mechanic could be used for other things too

  • @jorin33 not exactly what I had in mind. You can board and pick the lock rather than just sinking a ship, as the loot remains locked in the hold and therefore sinks with the ship

  • @thewolfman321 those were my thoughts

I had the same happening a few hours ago. Got kicked for being inactive while i was afk and when i tried to join my friend again, for some strange reason i got insta-kicked again for being "inactive". Restarted the game, could join again but spawned inside the brig and had to wait until he could let me out
