PvP grips that make me tired of the game

You are just getting outplayed, plain and simple. If all you have to do is jump around then maybe you should just jump around. But we all know that won't solve your issue because there is much more to it. Seriously, you are just getting outplayed. Instead of complaining, just improve.

The jumping around is just stupid. It shouldn’t be an effective way to fight, and if it is, then something needs to change.

@genuine-heather you should really take a step back and read that from a 3rd person perspective. "I get outplayed by people who jump, therefore jumping should not be allowed/should be nerfed". It's really silly to expect developers to change their game around your inability to be good at it.

If that's what you read, you may need to work on your reading comprehension skills. I said jumping around as a tactic is stupid and shouldn't work. I never said I got "outplayed". My comment was referring to a ridiculous mechanic that is very distracting and disruptive to immersion. It makes no sense. People just don't move like that. It's absurd.

But to address the ubiquitous and ever pompous "git gud" argument, how are average players supposed to compete with a kid who spends every waking hour doing nothing but PvP? It's just not realistic and I accept that. It doesn't mean I have the "inability to be good at it," it simply means I have a life.

When I do engage in battle, I like the game to make some kind of sense. When a game makes sense, I can use my intelligence and experience to compensate for my lack of controller skills. The ship combat in SoT is like that. I can outsail a lot of people using strategy and wits, and I'm pretty good with a cannon. It's only the up-close and personal stuff where I usually get creamed. I'm getting better all the time, and sometimes I get lucky. But as I said, I'll never be on the same level as someone who spends all their time doing nothing but PvP.

If the close combat mechanics made a bit more sense, I'd have a lot better chance of succeeding. But the game is what it is. I don't really expect them to change much, so this is more of a "what if" than a demand or expectation. That said, I still think jumping around like a monkey looks stupid and shouldn't work.

If you really want to be helpful, you could offer some practical tips instead of just telling people to "git gud."

Add a stamina bar for jumping and repairing.

Two dumb issues fixed instantly.

In my experience since day one, I know how deadly and popular the blunderbuss is, most people (from my experience) use it. For background to my advice, I play solo A LOT. Start using a flintlock, and pay close attention to the sound of people swimming or climbing your ladder. The blunderbuss weapon swap to cutlass is insta-death, anything outside its range is minimal. Use a flintlock, get used to it and make your shot count. Otherwise I don't really see the issue realistically. Also I'm probably one of players you don't like, me and my crew will sit on your ship, not necessarily to grief you, but to take your wood, cannonballs, and bananas (IMO just as important as loot). Scuttling your ship is always the option if there is no voice communication or a deal you can work out. Being on the receiving end of the behavior I UNDERSTAND what you mean but I've MADE friends that way just by chatting while having them sit on board my sloop, getting salty usually throws fuel into the fire. You acknowledge that you aren't as good at others at PVP yet you complain that you lose due to inferior PVP mechanics. .. you can complain about immersion but that's a completely different argument than what has been presented so far. If you are genuinely concerned about immersion then you would be complaining about pirates shooting out of cannons rather than pirates having unrealistic cardiovascular capabilities lol

As a reminder, this argument was about jumping around having "no counterplay". This is simply not the case. Immersion arguments are valid but off-topic.

@red-ninja-monky Ignoring hackers, pvp will never be fair as long as cross play exists. PC players will always and forever dominate console players. I can usually destroy crews in pvp(I play on console), but to the degree I can dominate against most other console players I get beat way worse by PC players.

read an interesting article after E3 regarding the next gen xbox console. one of the developers stated that there may only be one more console before they die out (all platforms) because devs will just stream them out themselves and it would only be for pc. sounds like its likely to have more and more pc players than console as time goes on. I'm a console guy so i don't know how i feel about this yet, but i guess we better get used to it

I play on xbox1.Going up against a good pc player I’m at a disadvantage and accept that. On land and in water they kill me a lot. In any engagement take the enemy where they don’t want to go. In the cargo hold they have less maneuverability and that is a fight I can win. I usually equip with a flintlock and cutlass.

That comment was just plain insulting. I have no trouble adapting and learning from experience, thank you very much. In fact I mentioned that I’m getting better. My point was that someone who spends every waking minute doing PvP in the game will naturally have a lot more experience with PvP. I don’t play the game that way. I actually enjoy a lot of different aspects of the game, not just PvP. To me, spending all your time on PvP is wasting the experience. Naturally, others have different points of view, and that’s fine. We play different games.

Let’s get something clear, I wasn’t complaining. My entire point was that...listen closely...jumping around like a monkey in combat is stupid. It looks stupid. It makes no sense. It’s annoying and distracting. I wasn’t “complaining” about losing. I was complaining because it’s STUPID.

I don’t know if it’s really that effective or not. Some people seem to think it’s easily beatable. It’s only happened to me a couple times, and they killed me, but I was so inexperienced at the time they probably would have killed me anyway. So I don’t know. The one thing I do know is it looks absurd and is annoying as all get out.
