Sea of Thieves should have a Battle Royale mode
It is one thing if you don't want a BR mode. Understood. But can we stop with the false statements about why it shouldn't happen?
Wouldn't mark the end of the traditional game. Could possibly extend it's life and give it time to grow. It is about trust, do I think Rare would completely abandon its traditional mode, NO.
Saying it would split the playerbase is another tired old canard people seem to use. There would always be people playing the traditional mode. Quit with that sorry excuse. Just say you don't want BR and move on.
Just an FYI the updates that FORTNITE has made to to "SAVE THE WORLD" every patch have been massive. They have not abandoned the base-game in any way and the people who have said that are flat out wrong.
@gutterangel I think it would kill the base game. I don’t think anyone here would have minded a couple of extra months of beta testing and incubation time to nail down the base game and have weekly events ready to roll at launch though. It needed that more than anything.
Launching as it did in even this current state was a huge blow to the IP. I generally don’t listen to critics, which is why I bought the game but in this case they were right. It just needs more.
@mrgrim67686 I do agree with or like some of your talking points, but the game deserves a lot more credit than it get's here. Maybe it's too bad some of you weren't in the focus groups that helped them decide where the effort went and when. They have built something special here. It's a shame some people posting here can only see or talk about what they wanted and didn't get and try to make everyone that likes anything with it wrong for doing so.

That gamemode also died simply because Battle Royale came to be. Let’s say you bring Battle Royale to Sea of Thieves, that somehow becomes incredibly popular and brings more people to the game. The focus isn’t going ti be the game we have now, it is going to be that Battle Royale mode.
Good example of this: Apple. Their mobile division is the majority of revenue. It shows in all their other divisions. The moment something else becomes the main focus, is when we lose on the rest.
Actually it is the opposite, as someone that has played fortnite since early access release, fortnite battle royal saved the story mode.
Since the increase of player base (and money!!!) epic was able to increase their development teams for BOTH modes. Since then they have updated the story mode with meaningful updates and a bunch of quality of life fixes, while before battle royal updates were far and few between.
I'm not saying battle royal is right for Sea of Thieves, but if like fortnite it ends up helping the game grow, I wouldn't be against it. I have to say it would be kinda fun though :)

Would Rare's budget to further develop the main game grow or decline from an addition like this yes or no? Would Microsoft's game division become more profitable from an addition like this allowing for the creation of more games and IP yes or no?
The main game would grow larger than it ever had the potential to reach on its own, regardless if it took a back seat in notoriety or not it would reach heights never previously possible by the simple act of piggybacking. All Rare would have to do is provide assurances for the main game, its development and integrity and follow through on them, all would be fine.
In Fortnite, the PvE mode was the first gamemode made. Now, battle royale is the only one people talk about. Even their twitter handle says "Official Twitter for Fortnite, the 100-player Battle Royale game on PS4, XB1, PC, Mac, and iOS. Download and play Fortnite for FREE!" Nothing said about PvE in there. Their PvE mode is dead, even though it was the first.

It did kill Paragon though. However, Epic refunded every penny put into that game, which was as surprising as it was cool. Even if it was a bit sad.

It's all the rage right now and Sea of Thieves would be the perfect model for an alternate menu selectable mode that people could engage in separate from the main game and servers obviously. Similar to PUBG 100 players making up various crews would spawn into the world at various locations with their ships and battle it out within an ever shrinking margin until one crew or player was left standing.
This would breathe new life into the main game, add tremendous value, attract millions of new players, help Microsoft's GamePass service and give people inclined to PVP a chance to really have it out. This could do so much for this game it's not even funny, there's such a huge opportunity here to expand and grow this into a staple franchise with years of options and entertainment for everyone.

Just because it’s all the rage now, doesn’t mean it should get near this game. For the love of god, stop it with Battle Royale.
Why exactly? It wouldn't be tied to the main game. There's no downside to this and it would help the game grow substantially, not further its decline. This trend of people saying no to things but in no way rationalizing or explaining why something shouldn't be done is highly annoying and irrelevant.
You know what else is annoying? Someone shoe horning a game mode into a game that doesn’t need it because “popularity” and they feel like if its popular then everyone else needs to join in too.

I could agree with a game mode focussed more on PvP, or for PvPers to be set in the same servers so they all can kill eachother and be happy, but a battle royale... F no... XDHow about a button in the main menu that says: "PvP Zone ~ Galleon , closed/open." & "PvP Zone ~ Sloop, closed/open."
That way people who love to pvp will click on that button and get gathered in a similar mindset server.
No battle royales... No safezones... Just the same types of servers, with an extra code that connects the servers to that button, making a sort of PvP server.Everything will work the same but when you see a ship at this point, you'll know it wants a battle! =D

Here's another issue with implementing a Battle Royale mode. PUBG is actually suing Epic Games over the Battle Royale concept. I don't think Rare would like to be dragged into that legal mess.
@nyadc85 firstly. absolutally not. sea of thieves would be under scrootany from how addictive they are, and sea of thieves being artistly and cartoony would attract kids conserning parents and sea of thieves would have a bad name.
secondly a "mode" system with be incredibly unimersive and people would have a hard time finding players as they would be in a separate server. also you would need separate servers as well for a craze that will disperse in a year or two.
thirdly 100 PLAYERS! are you nuts! the game can only hold 24 people (6 big ships) in a server and there are still rubber banding issues. the team would need a way of generating money and the last things SOT players want to sea is a price tag on dabloons, gold and every cosmetic (albeit pets are an excpetion). the tech team would scream and the game would sink.
and forthly. it would unattract players and kill the game. PUBG and Fortnite (terrible they are ESPECIALLY pubg) are designed for it. not sea of thieves. so full blown BATTLE ROYALE mode would need more attention and frankly i would rather see new ships and systems to support the main game then another stupid PUBG clone.
however. the main idea around battle royale modes are that when the player dies. they leave the server right? well i came up with somthing called the enemy system. in short you and another player (ex crew mate or troller etc) dont get on and you decide to send a enemy contract. meaning of either player kills the other. that player goes to another server. npcs and accidental deaths dont count tho. if i send a enemy note to a player who killed me when im in the ferry man it means if i get killed again then we become enemies or the player agrees to it.
now i go into much more detail with alliances, crews and gold bonuses for the stronger enemy making it so when you kill your enemy it could be very unrewarding if you dont let the hate brew lets say.
and you will always spawn into the same world until one of you is dead.
this can also be for an entire alliance meaning its a shared "battle royale" as much as i hate the phrase. this way normal players dont have to partake and its a unique and immersive twist.
when you die, you stay on the ferryman till a new server is found for you to join.
the typical battle royale mode is a terrible idea that would be A terrible and B not sea of thieves friendly. but you take aspects and merge it in as its own system in the shared world then who could complain? finally a way to banish terrible crew mates, trollers or priate legends!
@akashic-destiny no they would have to if they wanted their battle royale to be any sort of decent. people dont realise that when making games you can only put so much water in the glass and some people want it to overflow and be completely un managable.
there are too many battle royale games now and sea of thieves would loose respect.
@coolerbravo very few would agree. but its impossible rare dont have the time, resources or admiration for the whole battle royale thing, it would completly contaminate the games main goal and divide players. rare wants to bring them together not continuasly kick everyone out their game.
besides pubg are suit unreal games (seeing as sea of thieves is made in unreal Rare dont want to bad light, its terrible buisness)
