There should be a mechanic to bury your own loot. Someone can just dig a hole and buy their loot in it and the game would give them an option to bury it. After burying it the game would give you a map with the location of your loot so you can come back and find it later. If anyone kills you while you have the map then they get your map and can go find your loot for themselves.
Burying your loot

@nmrawesome5 yes! To expand on this slightly, let us sell our own player made maps, start some kind of player driven economy.
Whilst tempting, could you imaging the trolling from paying 1000gold for 6 Castaway Chests?!
@sir-lotus If you get attacked by a ship and you don't think you can win or your ship is sinking you could flee into the forest of a nearby island and quickly bury the treasure so you can try and collect it later. I have been in situations where people tried to hide their treasure just to spite their attacker. It would be a fun save your treasure this way in the hopes you can come back and collect it later. That is, if you survive the encounter by fleeing to your mermaid.
@sir-lotus if you see a galleon coming towards your sloop and you dont want your loot stolen, you can just hide your loot and then run

ok, I kinda get. But honestly, how often does that happen? I'm not saying it wouldn't be cool. I'm all for having new things to do in-game. Just from a practical point of view, it's going to take time, manpower and money to implement it. If I compare all of this against what we'd gain and how often it would get used, I don't think I want it as of this moment. There are honestly better things to do with the resources Rare has at this time. At a much later date, yes absolutely. In the near future? Sorry, it's a no from me.
@sir-lotus that’s true, this definitely shouldn’t be very high on RAREs to-do list but it would be cool
