Skull Fort Treasure Key As Equippable Item

  • The Skull Fort...one of the most difficult things in the game(or at least it's supposed to be)...you beat it and then out of the shadows comes ships teamed up to then raid you of all your hard work...

I suggest making the Key that opens the Treasure Room/Vault an Equippable Item in the alternate inventory wheel for you to come back and use whenever you like, as long as it is before the next Skull Fort. That way, all the time and resources you and/or your crew used won't be wasted and there's still the possibility of your loot being stolen when you finally do go back and have to return it to the Outpost.

The only ways the Key could be dropped is if the holder willing drops it via an action or is killed while holding it instead of having something else or nothing in their hand.

  • Lol, no.

  • The devs wanted the key to be a droppable item so that crews could fight over it. Otherwise, teaming up at a fort would be impossible, because the first team to get the key would just hold it until the other crew gave up.

It's supposed to be a point of tension between crews that worked together to beat the fort, the one key to get in that anyone can take from anyone else.

If your issue is that crews are coming to kill you after you get the key, just put it on your ship and keep it safe. you can't be raided when you're sailing away. (And this is coming from someone who plays exclusively on sloops. I've done a few forts (something like 17?) and never lost the key, because we always keep our eyes on it).

It doesn't need to be changed, you just need to take better care of it.

  • nope . the key is a drop.

Overly exaggerated not even close to hard whatsoever. I suggest using LFG and finding someone on a legendary Pirate voyage. The standard spawn skeletons that appear on islands you visit take between 9-14 sword swings and 4-5 blunderbuss shots to kill a single one. After you do one, forts will feel like beating babies.

There are multiple strategies to prevent anyone ever finding the key. There are 2 spots on each fort that the key can mesh into so unless they know the spot it'll never get found. Also most bushes do fairly well. I suggest when you do a fort to use the rescources at your disposal. Once you park at the fort with a sloop or galleon, you have the advantage. You have 8-12 powder kegs begging to sink an enemy ship. While parked u just have to watch for boarders and barrels while u barrel them.

this wouldn't be a good system, it would lead to more skull forts never being looted.
