Killed by 4 griefers at skeleton fort. Galleon is op.

  • They knew I was alone at skeleton fort and waited.
Right when I killed the boss they jumped me and took the key.
Only by joining a team of griefers is there any chance of winning.
Left the server and joined another only to be griefed again.
Logged out until they fix the game.

Penalties should be added against players that continue to grief.
Occasionally ban players that want to ruin the fun for others.
Sloops should have an equal chance against Galleons.
Toxic players are going to be all that's left in 2 months.

  • You know what kind of replies this post will get, so why bother?

  • @admiral-tweedle That's not griefing, that's PvP.
Griefing is when they actively seek you out to ruin your day, these guys just took advantage of you being alone and took the stuff you fought to get.
If they spawncamped you, hunted you down for hours and were just being rude to you, that would be griefing.

[EDIT] I am going to pass some words of wisdom I learned playing EVE Online.

Never fly(In this case, sail) with something you can't easily replace.

  • Stop overusing the word griefing. No, there should not be penalties for playing the game the way it is meant to be played. You're either onboard with a game about piracy, or you should play something else.

  • It's called Sea of Thieves, not Sea of Friends. If you're one of those people who have been complaining about the unfriendly acts of other crews, then you have purchased the wrong game. We can expect slight improvements such as spawn distance to be added to the game, but asking that the entire foundation of the game be changed just to fit your idea of what the game should be is unacceptable. No, we will not get PvE servers. No, we do not feel bad that a crew attacked you while you were innocently docked at an outpost. No, we do not care that you got double crossed by a seemingly friendly crew. Either get onboard or jump ship and go play something more forgiving if you can't handle the Sea of Thieves. If you want friendliness, go play Roblox. The pirates life is not for you.

And here...he is...AGAIN....with the same mentality...

Anyway, OP, if you are alone at a fort and you see boats nearby, your chances are slim to none to get the loot. Your only chance is to get the key, and jump on the ship and hope they stop chasing. OR, hide the key on a island and come back for it later.

NEVER take on a fort alone if there are other boats camping nearby, because they are waiting for the key to drop, and soloing a galleon isnt possible unless they are completely useless.

Take this as a lesson, soloing this game is "hard" mode, it isnt meant for solo play unless you wanna do voyages. Forts are for duos and larger, much like a raid in a MMO cant be done by 1 man.

  • Nothing is yours until you turn it in at an outpost. Whether it's one chest or a stash full of raid loot. Whether it's a solo sloop or a four man galleon coming to take it from you.

  • @admiral-tweedle To be clear. Killing you to steal your loot is NOT griefing. It is an expected mechanic of the game. Griefing implies no real benefit to the "griefing" party. Stealing all of your loot is clearly a benefit and therefore not griefing. Please stop using this word to refer to all people that do anything you perceive as negative.

  • Mad cuz bad

Sorry your cant solo the best and only instance for loot in the game without anyone bothering you.

  • @admiral-tweedle And how do you know they specifically waited for you to finish? No galleon team would wait for a solo player to finish. They probably just happened to get there as you finished.

  • @shredder-s47 So if you get spawn camped every time you join and never allowed to do anything other than die would you think it is also fair?

  • @eva1977 That literally doesn't happen ever since they increased the spawn distance. That excuse is no longer valid.

Spawn camping can be griefing, but it can also just be a precaution to keep a ship undefended while it sinks.

Thankfully Rare has given you an escape hatch - scuttling your ship so it respawns away from the griefers.

Actually the spawn distance isnt patched, its "altered",and works SOMETIMES. I still see my fresh ship kills spawn in sight.

    So yeah, its valid.

  • Read the first letter of each sentence folks, lol.

  • @blackbeard-lufy ohhhhhhhhhhhhhh

  • @shredder-s47 Correct but that was not my question, I simply asked if you thought that was fair?

  • I find this so ironic, me and my buddy took down a galleon last night after they defeated the fort. Took all of their loot on our sloop. Never seen a galleon try to run as quickly as they did. Literally sunk them about 100 yards from the outpost.

    Best fort experience yet

  • @blackbeard-lufy hah, good catch. Although, I was enjoying reading all these replies.

  • @blackbeard-lufy OHHHHH He got me so hard. I clap for this man. @Admiral-Tweedle

  • @admiral-tweedle I disagree, this isn't meant to be a solo game. The definition of griefing doesn't apply to this situation. Griefing is doing it to be a jerk and for the lols. They are doing to to get loot easily and unfortunately you were undefended and out numbered that's not on them at all. This game is meant to be played as a group with a community. Half the fun is defending your loot and always being ready for a fight.

    Hahaha, snap.

  • @blackbeard-lufy that deserves an upvote. Just comes to show how quickly people react without taking in the full context of things.

  • @admiral-tweedle That's not griefing, that's just a strat. Solo is supposed to be a challenge and on top of that, doing forts with a sloop forfeits the sloops natural strength: maneuverability. You win as a sloop against a galleon by positioning well but by doing a fort you have to sit still and let a galleon come to you.

  • Anyways my point was simply that there are different skill levels, some players are extremely good some are not and some are downright awful, with that in mind we can understand that not everyone has the time nor the desire to be at that extreme level or even "good" for that matter and to just brush them aside with lame responses like "get good" or a pirate game that is "not for you" is a lame response so imagine if developers were to respond to complaints in this manner? like it or get out! then why even speak up? not changing the mechanics is essential to keep the initial idea of the game but certainly there can be modifications for players that simply have different abilities.

  • Using the word "griefers" for people like this is going to make it so rare doesnt do stuff about the people that are actually griefers

  • @eva1977 No, I don't think that it was fair. I'm glad it got fixed.

    Couldn't have said it better.

Tackling a skele fort solo, I would think you'd go in knowing fully well that you might be rolled for your efforts.

I think I recall Rare specifically mentioning that Skele Fort loot was something that players could fight over...

Penalties should be added against players that continue to grief.
Occasionally ban players that want to ruin the fun for others.

Just because they rolled you for your fort loot doesn't mean that they "griefed" you. They were just playing pirate.

Whether or not being pirated "ruins your fun" is entirely up to you.
