3/4ths of the complaints are about people being pirates in a pirate game.

My only problem with it is the odd, unexpected persistence of other players wanting to steal my stuff. I was playing solo the other night and only had a Marauder's chest, a Seafarers chest, and a couple barrels of gunpowder. Another sloop of 2 people chased me for an actual, full hour trying to cannonball me.
The only reason they didn't keep chasing me was because they got distracted by another sloop and they proceeded to fight each other. I did try to fight them at first, but steering (so I don't crash), repairing, bailing water, and firing the cannons solo made it not worth it to keep fighting so I decided to run until they gave up. When they didn't, I decided to see how long they'd go for because i didn't want to lose.
I have no doubts that if that other sloop didn't pull up to join in, that they'd have chased me until I left the game. They were never even close to catching me. I don't get how it never got boring for them. It was so weird. But it happens a lot despite how weird it is.

Try it. The thrill of the hunt be fun.

  • This game as beautiful as it is, it appeals to the basest of human nature to play it. Lie, Steal, There can be no community in a game like that. People get mad at getting sunk and that's all you do for the next hour or so is fight them off and watch them come find you to do it again.
Wont even do a fort, as Im not interested in killing a bunch of waves only to have a pirate sink me and finish it off. I have talked to one friendly boat this week, and we had a blast.
I have not pulled an empty sloop out of a port yet this week. There is no community. Pirates have to show how piratey they are by sinking that one man sloop sitting in the port. Awesome work, four against one. There are changes that need to be made, Im slowly on my way out. no biggie to the pirates but sooner or later they will be off to the next big thing and then with no community servers will be empty

Its a game about pirates and so many people are asking for that aspect to be nerfed or removed. Thats all there is to this game. Its not a game about going and digging up treasure boxes or killing npc skeletons. Its a game about collecting treasure and defending it from other players, or its about being those other players stealing treasure. The voyages are just a way to put treasure into that system.

Basically stop grinding levels and have fun, this isn't WOW or Destiny or something where its basically just a pavlovian loop. You actually have to go find people and create fun with them someone. Maybe thats killing them, maybe its being weird whatever. Just get outside your linear box and go play.

Alternatively God of War comes out next Friday.

  • @jimmy-voorhees That's scary lol

If you hear "ki ki ki, ma ma ma" and see a black ship behind you...

    Hi.

  • The main issue is their is no value attached tho your ship. So you can use it as a disposable weapon. There's no "fear" attached to losing it. So you can attack with impunity, especially if you have an empty hold.

PVP needs balancing with a risk penalty and a reward system. Or ships need to be lost for good.

  • My experience with this is that the people complaining are also the people that take an aggresive approach.

I'm always playing with 4 friends, on a galleon, and when we see a ship we only attack if there is a big chance that the other might have loot. Like when they just leave an island/fort.

The rest of the cases where we see a another ship coming towards us, we ask them to either blink their lights or change direction to show that they are friendly. We give the other ship a choice.

What happens 99% of the time is that the ship keeps coming towards us, comes close enough and starts firing or try to board. Well fine, you just sentenced yourself to a trip to Davy Jones' Locker. Then when they can't kill us on the first attack, because we communicate and 99% of the other ships are randoms playing together, they are screaming that we should leave them alone when we chase them.

Piracy is part of the game, players will chase.
Just know how you can deal with it, you don't have to be stuck in a 30-min chase. Just let people jump towards an outpost with loot, comeback with the mermaid. Rince, repeat. After all loot is delivered, scuttle ship or swap servers. Tadaa just fixed the problem of "too aggresive" ships
