Almost 25% of players want to see a change to long-term goals in Sea of Thieves.

  • My reformating of player survey data

    I've been reviewing the large player survey that happened over on the official forums ( Check it out here ). It tallied the largest single request across the community to be additional ship types for other combinations of players.

    ...

    Well, I kind of noticed that some suggestions fell into similar broader categories and therefore would have had their tallies diluted. I've broken the results down into the underlying motivations behind the proposed features. This should provide a better look at what the community thinks is missing from the game.

    .

    .

    .

    Disclaimer, this is only one way of visualizing the data from the survey, and I'm not claiming it's better than the original survey.

    What do you think?

  • I feel like this would lend itself to subjectivity if some choices can fall under multiple categories, which they do.

  • I think that top number is users wanting to be lead around by their nose. :D

  • Pretty good roadmap I'd say. Technically the player economy is, however, the biggest solution to the underlying core issue the game has which is the NPC reward system. Reputation is fine, but it doesn't need to be merely used as experience. People didn't pay to get to interact with an ordinary, bloating, number game system with a bottleneck effect when the game was marketed as anything, but ordinary.

  • I don't like the title to this thread, I think it should be:
    "Almost 25% of players who took this survey want to see a change in long-term goals in Sea of Thieves."

    Most people that are happy with the game wont be on these forums, or taking surveys like that. I think the people who participated in this survey are a small percent of the total player base, but I could be wrong.

    I agree, it's definitely not an accurate sample of the total population, but there are people who are happy with the game who took it, i.e myself :)

    But he's correct, forum members are usually above average when it comes to activity and dedication and produce bad samples for these type of things.

  • Interesting idea and worthwhile attempt imo. However I am not sure how you came to these divisions or why there's so much overlap.

    Here's a hard attempt to explain what I mean with some suggestions (not a native english speaker so it's actually a bit hard):

    • What you call purpose seems more like added depth to main game design to me, I would add number 8 to that big umbrella. Alternatively I'd place "PVP bounty system" and "Ship types" as balancing, separated from the others;
    • Numbers 3, 5 and 11 seem to be motivated towards making a more "living world" as well;
    • Customization and story seem correctly separated;
    • And lastly I feel like there could be an "activities" section with some of those items and fishing/whaling requests, while placing tools and gameplay options as a section with the rest of the items (both ship and player ones).

    Again though, not sure what motivated this particular division. There might be something I'm not seeing or thinking about

  • @a13xa4d3r my thoughts exactly

  • i'm battling to understand the point of this? We don't have any long term goals yet. Just possible features coming down the line? or was there a road map I missed?

    Also 25% of people want long term changes. Of people who bothered to take the survey.

    It all just doesn't seem to mean anything other than "some people want things". I am not trying to undermine your efforts in doing the dirty work and tallying up what people have voiced their opinions on. I just think i am missing the point of knowing this information?

    is it 75 vs 25 feel that the game shouldn't have long term goals?

  • This poll has no significant value : way too many choices, it should has been split in 3 different polls at the very least to determine some noticeable leading trends.

    Roughly 2500 people minimum is more than enough for a representative poll for this game ^^
