Sea of Thieves: Battle Royale

  • I know there are many games in the battle royale genre at the moment. However, sea of thieves brings something new. Just think about it, each crew starts with their ship and nothing else, you must travel to islands to find cannonballs, weapons etc. The storm slowly closes in, huge naval battles ensue. I believe that this mode could save Sea of Thieves' Current playerbase and bring newcomers whilst Rare works on new content.
    Just an idea.

  • On the one hand very interesting, on the other sea of thieves wasn’t designed as a battle royale game and considering there is another pirate game coming out that is straight pvp (can’t remember the name) I’m not sure sea of thieves could really compete in that sense. That being said, maybe down the line Rare could add some sort of tournament event with awards?

  • No. We don’t want this

  • You're asking for RARE to become sellouts; to cash in on the current PUBG hype just for a quick boost in player count.

That's neither RARE's intention nor the general community's wish. We don't want Sea of Thieves to have brand new gamemodes haphazardly thrown in just because they're popular right now. The game is unique, and we want it to stay that way, and no become homogenized with other games.

  • So we wait even longer for new content while they design this?

  • I know there are many games in the battle royale genre at the moment.

Correction: there are too many games in the battle royale genre at the moment. Plus, BR are getting toxic, and SOT community is already enough like that. We don't need leaderbords or rankings to make it worse.

  • @creeper042 no no no this is not needed.

  • Don't want it, would have bought one of the many games that offer it already if I did.
Would prob quit if they added it tbh, not just because I don't like it. But mainly because I'd lose all faith in the Dev team for suddenly opting to introduce something that was never announced / planned. It would come across as a blatant cash-in.

I'd be pretty annoyed that dev time was spent on it instead of more important things and I'd feel cheated.
As a result, I'd take my time and future cash investments (assuming there are paid d expansions / microtansactuons) elsewhere.

  • I personally think It is a cool ideal to have a battle Royale mode or just pvp only servers cause I mostly just look for ships to sink and very rarely ever do quest.

  • Just no, please. If you want a BR game go play PUBG or Fortnite. If you want a pirate themed BR game, just wait for Skull and Bones.

  • never announced/planned? the only thing they did announce was that this game would change in whatever direction the players took it. at least that's how I understood their mantra.

  • @creeper042
    Pls no! Thank you

  • Not every new game has to be a battle royale. I love both the pve and pvp in this game, if it pulled a Fortnite and said "pve is nice but all our effort from this point on is our battle royale pvp mode" i would quit just like i did Fortnite.

Just say no to battle royale

  • NO THIS IS TERRIBLE. It will have the fortnite effect and they would drop the main game and just work on the battle royal it’s stupid . No

  • Sound great to me hope it happens

  • When we were playing betas and scale tests I would have hated this suggestion. But after playing the game for a week, this game type would be fun, and the game mechanics are set up really well for it.

Every time this gets suggested so many people shoot it down for the obvious reason: devs wont care about the original game anymore. And its funny to me, because if they did release a BR game mode the reason they wouldn't care about the original is because of the popularity of the BR game mode.

People are basically saying: don't do it because it would be to enjoyable, the normal game would be even less fun, and they wouldn't release new content which the game desperately needs.

I just think its funny, it would be a great game type, but nooooo then the original (shallow) game would suffer (even more). If anything a BR mode might help the devs make some more money to make more content.

  • @creeper042 Not really a competitive game tho..

  • id love to have "tavern pvp" where you could practice pvp combat without ships..

  • I thought BR in this game would be great , You have to understand most people on SoT are terrible at PvP and a Battle royale would take too much concentration and skill for them, How having a BR mode would hurt them is beyond me it would only help the game stay alive for more than 2 weeks.. People overreacting over this recommendation is pathetic

  • @quietjoey99627

People making generalizations about and entire community is also pathetic. As it is the community is trying to pull the pve/pvp players together and you want to add battle royal.

Looks like most of our ( terrible at PvP ) community doesn't want it, as a pvp player I don't want it either.

  • Just look fortnite, everything for the BR and let the game dying

  • @creeper042 I think it would be a fun addition. All the elements are there for it to be made and incorporated. They could have solos, duos, and squad battles.

From a business standpoint they could have cosmetics/micro-transactions unlocked through this game mode. Also it will allow Rare to compete with Skull and Bones' PvP further down the line which is better then just letting part of their player base "drop ship" :D. If you ask me it will likely be added close to the release of Skull and Bones.

From a player standpoint anyone who would rather just do ship battles could hop in the mode and be happily satisfied while simultaneously reducing the PvP population on the regular game servers which should make PvEers jump for joy. Could add a new faction where xp for them can only be acquired in this mode.

I would like to see it in the future. I also love the current game and would play both. So relax and take a second to think about how this would improve the game and add a new element of fun instead of saying it would make Rare a sellout or looking for a cash-grab.

  • @zep-darkwater Obviously if they're bad at PvP they don't want BR....... Thanks for stating the obvious. No one said they had to play it. Itwould be there for those who enjoy Seeing other players in a multiplayer game. Not everyone likes competition. Ok No one would be forcing you to play Battle Royale if you don't like PvP. In case you didn't notice BR is taking over pvp. Its for the best of the best who don't need to sit in one spot the whole game. I played SoT alot.... There's a reason Burkeblack and Generaldort look so good..... Most are bad at PvP

  • This is a bad idea. BR games are starting to die out. Take H1Z1 for example. Fortnite is the only one doing good because its FREE. not 60$

  • @creeper042 look up “skull and bones” bud lol might be more your style

  • @gadec Thats because the main game of fortnite is dull and boring, Unlike the BR wich takes serious skill and timing in order to get some intense chicken dinners

  • @wp-avenger You have no idea what you're talking about... H1Z1 is the OOG BR Pubg and fortnite killed h1 and even though i'm more of a pubg fan, Fortnite will continue to be at the top giving Ninja 150k+ viewers regularly

  • @quietjoey99627 And games like Red dead redemption 2, Gta 6,World of tanks, and a ton more are adding BR modes

  • @quietjoey99627

Nice of you to make more assumptions. It good to have players in the community who have the ability to spot all people who are bad at pvp. I don't know what we would do without you.

I'm not concerned about being forced to do anything. I'm concerned about the development of the game as Rare has stated they would like it to be. The game was not set up for it and I personally don't think time or money should be wasted on a feature in which it appears most of the community has no interest.

In case you didn't notice SoT is different from a lot of other games and I think that's a good thing, if people want to play a battle royal type game there are already many available. Why try to turn SoT's into another clone?

I've played SoT's a lot too, does that give me the right to decide that the entire community is bad? Really some people on these forums have terrible communication skills. Pro tip if you are trying to pitch an idea to people, the worst thing you can do is approach them with generalizations and insults.

  • @QuietJoey99627 all games eventually die out because they dont keep their popularity. All games have a big hype, H1 was the pinnacle of BR games. Pubg came alone and took it a step further with attachments and then fortnite came by changing strats and making it free and less graphics quality, which allows for people who dont have a good big boy PC to play. However adding a BR gamemode to SoT would seem like a good idea on paper it really wouldn't be that good of a game mode for a game thats literally about being a bloody pirate.

  • @creeper042 How does someone downvote a post on this forum? Asking for a friend.

  • @cows-n-muffins I don't know myself, but if you find out please let me know. I have a few threads that need it lol.

  • @creeper042 No! No! No! No! Sounds like a complete nightmare! Ships all rushing to the middle! Some with wind, some with none. It would turn into a destruction derby of crashing ships and random cannon fire. The thought of this idea is nails on a chalkboard.

  • @cows-n-muffins Please let me know as well! My “friend” also needs to know!

  • @elite-assasin87 Skull and Bones btw
    It looks pretty s**t
