  • There's work to do for Rare, certainly... but for the £33 I paid (with the understanding that MTs are paid for and feature DLC is free) I'm happy with the investment.

We just needs more systems in game.

  • @sg-riverdan Well, you know, I don't particularly like review sites and I like them less where feedback or scores are based only on a handful of 'critics' opinions, especially 3 days after a game is released.

The score is currently based on the opinions of 6 critics.

Kingdom Come:Deliverance has been out a little longer and only has a metascore of 76 based on 56 critics....

At the end of the day it comes down to your own personal opinion about games.

For more on how a metacritic score is determined you can read here -

@sg-riverdan Meh I dont really care for those reviews. As the reviewers have obviously not had a chance to get to the higher tiers of the game.
Now to be fair there has been some server load issues and they should be dinged for that, they are owned by a corporation that has the largest cloud infrastructure on this planet and Microsoft should have answered and added some more virtual servers from Azure quick fast (and maybe they did). But I dont really agree with the one bad review it got in that pool of 6 on metacritic.
And how long MS will support them depends on revenues generated, and I think RARESOFT has done just fine in that arena.

and this game is pretty awesome, how long it maintains its community will depend on what RARE does going forth, but other then not jumping right on that game server issue I think this is one of the smoothest online only game releases I have ever seen.

Are you joking or is this the first game rele you've experienced? For two days most people couldn't get in or stay in the game. Our gold and reputation usually doesn't updated until we log back in. The preorder bonus is AWOL and requires support tickets to eventually acquire. There are tons of visual and gameplay glitches which I cannot even begin to list.

Modern Xbox one games run around 30-70 GB, this one is 9 GB and we all know precisely why. It is a hollow barren promise that has delivered less than the average politician's campaign promises.

  • @gotwhity66 if that’s the case how is it comparable to SoT entirely different concept...

  • Press crushed with their clickbait shenanigans games like No Man’s Sky or ME Andromeda and I loved every minute of them.

I can’t care less about their lack of imagination, they don’t look at the big picture, i am loving the game, if only they fixed the Cyanbeard issue everything would be perfect.

And indeed, it needs lot of content, but this is not a reason to lynch a good game if the devs have a long term plan. I payed 70 euros, btw, no regrets.

They have a point. The game is pretty bare bones at the moment. MS pushed out a game that anywhere else would have been branded as Early Access, or at the very most Alpha, and made people pay full price for it.

Do we really need to start another debate over what the game's actual goal and content is supposed to be? Because RARE has made it plenty clear.

It doesn't matter what their plan is when their pirate game launches at full price and has a grand total of two ships. It's not okay to launch without content, even if you say "Don't worry, we'll add more down the line." Creating content should be done BEFORE the game launches, not after.

Define "content," because you clearly don't get the object of the game isn't just mindlessly grind quests.

There aren't any features either. There are no NPCs about, you can't whale, or play dice, or cards, or anything really besides gliding around doing fun, albeit very simplistic PvP.

What is there to do besides pvp and grinding? Visit an island and what, stand on it for a while and look at how empty it is?

    Define "NPCs about."

If you're suggesting Whaling get out and don't come back.

I know Dice and Cards have been requested, and they might be added further down the line.

Besides basic PvP and Grinding? You have no imagination. Explore around! You might find a message in a bottle, or a chest randomly lying around. Grab a few gunpowder barrels and kamikaze into another ship. Find someone to have a race with! Try befriending another crew and share a drink and a shanty.

    And there we go!
    The predictable "imaaaaagiiinaaaation!!" defense.
Hey, since you're so good at imagining stuff.. Imagine I just sold you a great pirate game. Just imagine all the fun you're having! With your imagination and imaginary friends!
    Now give me 60usd please.

I'm certainly imagining all the fun I'm going to have in Sea of Thieves when I purchase it!

I had a great time with my friends when I played in the Final Beta; two of them were literally laughing their rears off the entire voyage as we dodged trigger-happy galleons and dug up buried treasure, while drinking and serenading whoever was at the helm.

I almost feel sorry for you, unable to make your own fun.

Here here. I bought the game just to drink and puke on my cousins face.

People feel entitled for game devs to baby them into having fun.

Its like if i didnt like basketball but everyone said that NCAA basketball 2021 would have the best features so i buy it and am disappointed with the game so i say that just playing basketball is boring and i want them to add melee weapons so we can fight while we ball.

You dont buy things that are out of your interests. I got this game because i love sailing the ship. I got this game because i enjoy sailing said ship full speed into other ships. And though i hate grinding at least you can let others do it for you depending on how you play the game...

  • @campharderspazz I was present for the release of WOW, diablo 3, minecraft, PUBG, FFXI, FF XIV, and several others. I have been gaming for over 30 years and have probably played over 1000 different games.

Also I am definitely not joking. I have been playing this game since release and your comment that most people couldn't get in or stay in is anecdotal (except for the one night where they shut log on off for an hour or so) as me an mine have not experienced any issues other than the one I parenthesized. I don't know about any preorder bonuses, but you should take it up with customer support and I am sure they will take care of you. And I have literally experienced one lag issue in all of my play time.

I am sorry you find the game lacking and I hope you come to peace with that. My original statement stands and I remain unmoved by your complaints. I hope you get it all sorted out.

    good day

  • @toastywrath It isn't comparable nor should it be. Sorry if I made it seem that way.

  • @sg-riverdan said in Meta Critic 67. (Wow):

I knew this game was bad but 67? That's very bad for a first party studio review. This could be the end of rare. How long can M$ support a studio that outputs games like this.
On a plus note. Skull and Bones looks promising. We should find out more at E3.
Glad I got it free with game pass.

It actually getting higher then, i checked on launch day and it was a 5.1

  • @x1-two said in Meta Critic 67. (Wow):

    @thesme11yman

I think it's stupid to have more cosmetic items for pirate legends, when at most 1% of your game owners will ever reach that. Annoy 99 % of your players so 1 % of them feel rewarded? Good luck with that approach, you won't sell any games in the future.

What should happen is there is a lot and affordable content for players with 10 hours just as there is for those with 100 or 1000 hours. You don't have to have one or the others. You can have interesting items for low level players and for pirate legends.

You have to have end game content as well. In about 10 hours I played I was able to buy some stuff. The idea for this game is meant to be slower moving. If you're just collecting this stuff real quick you'd buy it all within a week. As we know right now there are 41 weapons skins, 89 Item skins (not counting each level up for the faction items), and 128 clothes options. I feel that's quite a bit, and starting soon they are going to add to this. You can buy a handful of the cheaper ones with 10 hours of play easily. I have about 15 hours into this game and have around 60k gold.

Edit: This isn't counting any legendary stuff and any boat skins/sails. We don't know what there is for legendary yet, But a lot of items they have showed in their videos are not in the release of the game or are just in the legendary category or will be added. Speculation is they said you get unique rewards for completing legendary quests so you might get items for doing those. Won't know till someone gets there and sees what's in those shops and whatnot.

  • @thesme11yman There is actually plenty of cosmetics now that people are getting farther and unlocking more. The main problem, that I hope is addressed, is additional methods to get gold as well as additional things to do. I would personally like the following:

    • Base building
    • Fleets (Sorta Like Guilds)
    • Ship vs Ship Combat zones
    • Additional boss like the Kracken
  • I don’t care about review scores, but SO many others do. Get back on your horse there Rare 🤘🏿

  • @lifewcoke said in Meta Critic 67. (Wow):

A lot of the reviews I have read have been pretty spot on. Tons of potential but did not capitalize on it out of the gates.

    This

  • @gotwhity66 Is there? I just counted everything that's in the stores if its locked or not. So more things populate in there as you level up or are you just talking about the things that are locked?

Not sure base building would work since after you log out you're stuff goes away. Though once you get a legendary ship with the captaincy and the hideout they said more of that stuff is customizeable so the interior of the ship and such.

Read they are working on a guild like system

Anywhere in the water is a combat zone? unless you mean like a strictly PVP only zone which I doubt they will implement.

I'm sure they will add more bosses since they have time to do it. Every few weeks should be cosmetic content plus a timed event and every 3 months is a bigger game update.

Yeah the game really opens up once you get that gold peg leg....

  • @garfs I agree with this as well. Boils down to how quickly they can build upon the foundation they provided to us.

  • A well deserved score.

I really enjoyed the game. It's fun, it's pretty and it's got great charm. I played about 20 hours this week. Now I have exhausted the content and I am finished. There is simply nothing else I want to do in the game.

"Play with friends!!!! Make your own stories!!!!". Yeah, been there, done that. My friends feel the same. There is only so many times we can do the whole repetitive gameplay loop without it getting stale. The sandbox is really not as deep as people want to pretend and the fun!!! and stories!!! you can have with friends is still limited to the gameplay tools Rare makes available to you. And those gameplay tools are way too limited. And please, let's not pretend the PvP is deep and complex either. The PVP fights become repetitive rather fast.

This game will lose 90% of its players by the end of April, if not sooner. If you enjoy it, that's great! But let's not pretend this game is some kind of miracle, because it's not.

  • @zoopy That's pretty much how i feel.

The fun is there, but the potential for more fun or fun related to the actual game world is lacking due to missing content.
The entire map feels lifeless. There's no interactivity on any island, besides spamming a button for supplies, so there's no real incentive to explore, besides the occasional chest or bottle.

This then boils down to a feeling that the fun isn't actually coming from the game, but rather from the company of my mates.
So we stop playing, grab a beer and just hang out.

If we wanted a "framework" within which to build our own fun, we'd play our homebrewed pirate DnD.

  • Metacritic : c****y weighted statistics.

    [https://screenrant.com/metacritic-video-game-scores-way-off-wrong/](often very very wrong)

E.g. other games scoring very low:

    Skyrim
    Mass Effect 3
    Overwatch
    Diablo 3
    Call of Duty
    ...and so on and soon

  • @mcdoll Pretty much. There are dozens of other sandbox games I can play with my mates, which would give me the same awesome gameplay experiences and stories. They will all also have more content than Sea of Thieves.

Sea of Thieves was a fun romp, but there's nothing that makes me want to go back. I'm glad I canceled my preorder and went through Game Pass instead, because I would have been furious had I paid 70 euro for the game.

  • There are only 9 critic reviews for the XB1 version and 2 for PC. That's hardly an accurate meta score yet. I'm sure the game will stay under 85 because of some very negative reviews, but with a bigger sample it will change soon.

  • You are also missing an important point:

None of those reviewers played the game...let it sink in. It's materially impossible that those reviewers played the endgame content, are they legendary pirate?, yeah, sure, didn't happen.

So they are basing a veredict in previews, alphas, betas...and prejudices, because it's pretty obvious that they didn't had the time to play the game and write a deep review about the experience. Some journalists have a strong ethics background and others just meet deadlines and sometimes don't let the facts ruin a good story, I was photojournalist for a living, believe me, been there saw that.

  • @lobofh
ahh so this is the new evolution of "Wait for the full release, it's only a beta/alpha" ?
    Yeah, nah.
not gonna listen to you again - you were wrong about the release content.

Edit - also, you think that a reviewer shouldn't be able to give a score to world of warcraft? after all, theyre still making c**p for that game, so it's not like the reviewer could have finished it!

Or what about a TV show? you not allowed to rate what you think of a tv show that's ongoing? or you gotta watch the ENTIRE series before you can say whether you liked it or not?

  • @lobofh they have as far as i can see.

most of them have said something to the effect of "even though more content is slated to be released - and legendary pirates are yet to be made, i still don't think that players will find enough to keep them hooked"

obviously i'm paraphrasing the general consensus here.

If they have access to specific content, and the rest is locked behind an UNREASONABLE grind in order to artificially elongate the process, then that should be something the reviewer can note is the case and therefore mark it down because of.

In my opinion all the legenday pirate thing can't be disregarded so liberally like some of you are trying.

It's like to play Destiny or Diablo two hours and complain about lack of content because all weapons and armours are c**p, indeed they are, keep playing, you just started the game.

Listen, there are some reviewers out there that don't release the review until they have really experienced the full thing. Yes, they don't work in mainstream outlets, but I believe you understand what I mean with it.

  • @lobofh well golly, you sure have convinced me then!
I can't wait to see all the wonderful new gameplay loops and unique mechanics that being a legendary pirate brings with it!

Yes. They need to grind their way through dozens of hours of bland and banal content so that they can reach content that is equally meaningless and that less than 10% of players will ever see, before they can make a review?

This isn't World of Warcraft. There isn't some magical complete revamp of the gameplay waiting in the 'endgame'. You're still going to be doing mostly the same s**t you've been doing the entire time. Stop hiding behind excuses like "muh endgame".
