I've only seen less than a handful of viable pets listed here besides the exceptional ones I proposed, Cthulhu and privateer Toads... Every other one is mundane, come on folks! How about a gelatinous cube? Speaking of mighty Cthulhu, how about a deep one? It could also stand in for your mermaid after you acquire it...
Who wants a kaiju? Any will be awesome, but Gojira(Godzilla) is king! What ever pirate was lucky enough to receive him could replace his ship and ride Gojira instead.
