I for one am okay with how there are preset looks that we customize but I want to know how in depth that is. Can we customize our hair color? I really want blue hair lol with a beard. What pirate doesn't want a beard? Also are we locked into the original design or can we change it?

Haha good question. I’d have to look closely at the customization but in the release trailer. But I think you choose from 1 or the 10 character models then customize with clothes and amputations.That was the impression I got in the trailer
What about colors though? I don't to look like someone with the same hair color and design. Give more freedom to customize.

I don't remember the video but i remember them saying they had a huge variant in character designs and that everyone will be able to find one that suits them. Whether that's just dev talk for we have 10 preset character or hundreds of randomly generated avatars is another issue. :P
We can't really guess from what we've seen at events because everyone has probably been given preset characters as soon as they log-in.
