@donyasson I'm not trying to make a big deal of it. I'm just trying to clear up confusion. :)
Steam Version required!
Someone should start a list of demands to improve the Microsoft store, instead of simply bashing it. A pc player should make a thread stating everything wrong with the Microsoft store, and how they can fix it before release. Hopefully Microsoft can fix the problems to make the store tolerable, maybe even good for PC players. I have no doubt that steam is liked much more, but this games release on steam won't happen. Let's figure out how to give pc players a better experience, and make the Microsoft store better for future crossplay games.

@erikinthebakery So I was just about to ask this question, if I do the pre-order I only see it available for X-Box. Does that mean I can play it on my X-Box and my PC? How does that work?
@iamorionn The preorder is for Xbox Live and since Windows 10 supports Xbox Live you will be able to play the game there too as part of the Play Anywhere system.
You will need to make sure you purchase the digital version of the game and not the retail boxed version.
Why would you not buy a game just because you hate the store it's on? Especislly if you played the game, you already downloaded the game through said store. That makes no sense. What if I told you Walmart only sold Cheerios and I loved Cheerios but didn't like Walmart? Guess I'm not eating Cheerios anymore...? Just deal with the platform. At the end of the day, you only have to deal with it once. Download the game and never open the app again.
@tehhngm Unfortunately so, this is usually due to the way user profile/game data is stored and your country having specific rules on where/how it has to be stored.
Sorry to hear it's going to be tricky for you to be able to play.
@tehhngm Yeah totally agree, I think as Microsoft grows its global Xbox Live servers and changes the way it handles data this will go away. They will want to do this soon to be able to deal in certain restrictive countries as some of these are lucrative gaming markets anyway.
Fingers crossed they sort it out soon!
Can someone confirm for me please, I think this is a fitting thread rather than starting another one, 'play anywhere' means, doesnt matter what you buy it on, you can still play it on the other? The reason I say is because at the moment on amazon, its £15 cheaper to buy it on the xbox.
Sucks its not on steam but meh, one benefit was I could just party up with my mate on xbox through the app while I was on pc which was convenient way to talk to him without needing discord, teamspeak and such
@uvg-reign You need to purchase the item "Xbox One/Win 10 PC - Download Code"
Purchasing the Xbox version Amazon will send you a boxed retail version which is platform specific.
@tehhngm You won't get in trouble from Microsoft or Rare. It will just be your ISP/country's government that may not like it but I'm sure you know lots of people probably do it.
Your right too... sounds like it should work, I can't see why not.
@painsanta
I completely agree this game should be on steam. I think the devs should post a real reason why it won't be on steam. I have been watching this game for a long time... Probably too long... I haven't seen any super big updates, just a little game play here and there. Many more people would know about this game if it was on steam. Microsoft store sucks, and $60 pre-order is too much for a game with this little info. Steam has a way bigger community base. I would really like to see this game flourish, but people have been waiting too long, it's not on steam, too expensive, and little info about the game.
@seizuresac because it doesn't need to be on Steam. It is a Xbox/Windows 10 game, using Windows/Xbox Live services and is published by Microsoft.
Every PC capable of playing Sea of Thieves has the Windows Store, not all of them have Steam....
@triheadedmonkey
True but anyone can get steam it takes 2 minutes, also there are other Microsoft games on steam. So there is no reason why it can't be on steam. People can leave reviews on the steam page for others to read. It would make more sense to have it on steam just for the fact of the big community.
@seizuresac He's been using the ridiculous "everyone has microsoft store" argument for months. It makes no sense, but you'll never get him to drop it.
There are actual examples of games being exclusive to the Microsoft Store not meeting sales expectations, but they are pretty much locked into failure at this point. Maybe if the games sales are terrible enough they will pull a Quantum Break and list it on Steam eventually.
I agree with you. But I don't want this game to get on steam that way. I want to see this game go big from the start. I think that Microsoft has horrible advertising, and their store is just as bad. Steam would provide them all the things they lack in. Like a community, an actual store, and easy advertisement.
@painsanta even simpler - I won't buy this game because it's only available on Windows Store. I want to, but as has been said, I dont need anything more than what I'm forced to use now - Steam, Uplay, Origin. And I only used Origin for BF (which I don't play anymore), and ME. And I'll probably need to use it for Anthem.
I have 15 years and 700 titles on Steam. I'm not going to buy anything on another store regardless how good is it, and all of my friend list on Steam after so many years feel the same.
Your move Microsoft. You're missing a huge player base by trying to push people to use your c**p platform.
@dhg-ixxrmacxxi even if it's profitable? Is the gaming side really so disconnected from the Azure/Windows side of the business that they want to close off revenue streams while the Windows team works on bash support and Redhat hosts events at Microsoft locations promoting their solutions on Azure?
This isn't a small company. If they want to let steam copies use their infrastructure they can. Siege/ubi does this with Uplay.
That said, if it's something added after initial launch, that's totally reasonable. Would seem silly to limit themselves unless they aren't confident in the game though.
I hear ya bro, I love Steam.
But this game ain't ever going to be on Steam.
So yeah, I upgraded my OS to Win10. Bought a new monitor.
Checked out the Closed Beta for a couple days on my potato (runs great).
I'm primed to set sail, but that's just me.I understand your sentiment, I still won't play a damn Ubisoft game, but it ain't ever going to be on Steam.
@berserkdig1073 except read the fine print on the game. It says a bunch of times it requires xbox live to play for everything. Steam does not own rights to any of that and vise versa. So its completely pointless. Not selling on steam wont hurt Microsoft at all. The combined sales of Microsoft store and Xbox will be a lot.
In the end of the day it is pointless to say steam is better. Because Microsoft owns the rights to play anywhere and can do with as they please. Rare has nothing to do with what the game is played on. Microsoft owns them and will put it on what ever systems they fell is best for the company.
Why is this such a problem for people for people?
PC gamers should be used to the fact of different launchers for different games. Why wouldn't Microsoft use their store, it would be weird if they didn't.
I don't see how a game being on a certain platform can give you such a reason not to buy the game entirely.
Yes if everything was on Steam it would be easy but that's how things are.

lol Really....."Your move Microsoft" get over your self....
Okay. This post is going to be long, but this has to come of my chest.
Remember when Steam forced everyone to be online for the launch of the biggest offline game release ever?
Remember when Steam played nice guy and gave EU players the rights they have under the law to refund games, but then force us to waive to purchase a game?
Remember when Steam finally caved and let players refund games for Steam Credit? (While Evil-EA had already refunded cash for two years)
Remember when Steam started letting people submit completed 3d models for Valves games and keep a whooping 25% of the profit?
25% is also the percentage that goes into prize money for Dota 2 battlepasses and compendiums sold. 75% "disappears" straight into the pockets of Valve.
Steam has been kicking gamers square between the legs for years, yet somehow a kiss on the forehead every now and then is all we need to fight for them to get an absolute monopoly on PC gaming.
For a group of people that collectively hate all the big, evil corporations that sure seems weird to me.
The fact that other big publishers do not want to give 30% of the money gained from sales away should be the only justification we need as to why a game is not available trough Steam.
Sure, Steam has gotten to the point where it is absolutely the best and most convenient DRM-platform (remember when the word DRM made you puke), but it became that on the expense of us players.
Now, I am not going to argue that there is not issues involved in dealing with other platforms. By far. All of them have issues that are annoying to many of us, but our fight should be to get these platforms to be better for us and improve. Not tell everyone else to just give up and put their games in Valves hands.
As for the ones that say "I would buy the game on Steam even if it cost more". Well, that hike in price would then be 30%. And sites like cdkeys and g2a tell me that you probably would not have many players joining you on that.
So, please, just let us accept the fact that not every game will be on Steam, and trust me when I say it is better for us consumers in the long run. If a publisher demands that we use their platform, it is in our best interest to demand that that platform be made better, not that they use a different one.
It is going to take time for sure. But using and fighting to improve the way Microsoft handles gaming on PC is the way forward. Wether you like it or not.
If you stuck with me all they way to the end I want to thank you for listening to my opinion, and I'm looking forward to hearing your thoughts even if you disagree.
Gabe Newell will never Sell steam that way to Microsoft, because he “hates” this company. Maybe because he worked years for them.
https://pcgamesn.com/sites/default/files/Newell email.jpgThe Windows Store is organised like a huge pile of garbage, for example the Xbox app uses the “Microsoft Store” just with filters directly applied to the display, the recommendations are totally way of the mark, completely unintuitive UI…It’s very low effort for a multinational corporation.
It’s wrong to say all Windows 10 computers, have Windows Store & [mod removed] software. As an IT professional, I directly uninstalled all of this “useless” things from my computer…Because they have a big issue for the privacy of their users.
Like someone says, at least like Origin/Uplay/Gog or something, are TRUE gaming platform, not the Xbox App. The best was to install a “3rd party” Xbox insider if I’m right, to play a beta just like “what the hell are you doing?”.They can do an API for Steam users to play through the Xbox Network, but they just want to promote their “gaming store” with Sea of Thieves, in hope that people will use it to buy another games in the future, but they are probably so wrong.
And like someone says, it’s better to have a library centralized than 4-5 completely dispatched.@erikinthebakery I don't think its so much shame, as it is...well, for lack of a better word, bad. I am fine with either option honestly. But Steam is far more organized and user friendly compared to the Xbox App or the Microsoft Store. To be completely fair my only experience with either the Xbox App or the Microsoft Store has only been with Sea of Thieves, and it was just for the beta. So maybe they're still working out some kinks, I'm willing to bet they are. But my experience with the party-management, the updating process, even the launching of the game, was clunky and cumbersome.
When we were in a party the game would sometimes not pair us together even though invites were sent. Thus we were forced into a group of randoms which we promptly abandon and re-grouped and tried the process again. Sometimes we were successful, sometimes we weren't. Then the updating and the errors it caused.
I guess my point is, it wouldn't hurt to think a little broader and look into implementing some Steam Client support. But at the end of the day, it likely won't happen since this is an exclusive. Hopefully Microsoft and Rare work out a better party management system, and work out the rough edges around the updating process.
