Safer Seas

  • I have put hundreds of hours into the game, and I love experiencing it. But playing on the normal gamemode is filled with people looking to fight. I don't think we should be punished for playing on safer seas. The following options are what I would like:

custom ships to be included in safer seas
No limit to renown gain for the factions
higher limit of players allowed in a server of safer seas, or multiple ships if part of the same guild

It really sucks to come onto the game after working the week, starting a quest and getting immediately sunk by players who spend their time hunting ships.
I like the PVP, and the ability to do the ship battles with the hourglass is such a good change, and I think having safer seas is awesome! But punishing those that want to experience the game sucks.

  • But playing on the normal gamemode is filled with people looking to fight.

You mean people defending themselves from the unknown ship who gets to close or is at location they need to be.

Nobody looks for a fight. It happens because that part of the game.

don't think we should be punished for playing on safer seas

Nobody is. But like hourglass, players are confusing it and making up rules about it. SS is only an extension of the maiden voyage for you to learn the ropes. How ever long that takes is at your pace

custom ships to be included in safer seas
No limit to renown gain for the factions
higher limit of players allowed in a server of safer seas, or multiple ships if part of the same guild

Basically. Wants a PvE only server.

It really sucks to come onto the game after working the week, starting a quest and getting immediately sunk by players who spend their time hunting ships.

12 hour shift, 1-2 days off. Play rough 4-6 hours day if real world doesn’t catch me. I have no problems.
And nobody is actively sinking ships for fun, but that is part of being a pirate anyways. Rare made it easier to steal resources from ships by sinking them. And commendations/achievements often say sink/attack player ships.
Can’t be mad at a game that says this happens.

But punishing those that want to experience the game sucks.

Giving people a safe haven to unlock stuff without care in the world which normally would be difficult due to player interactions. Just because they hate playing with other players.
In..a PvPvE game, labeled, sold, advertised and shown as such. That sucks.

  • The game design and intent for Sea of Thieves is a shared world adventure, and it always will be. Those who wish to play in the confines of Safer Seas will always have the option but we will not bring the rewards and activities in line with those of High Seas when many of the restrictions are in place due to the risk vs reward factor that is inherent in Sea of Thieves - removing any risk means rewards must be balanced accordingly.

Safer Seas will act not only as a safe space for our Tall Tale players but also for families with children who just want to pirate, for people who want to play the game but learn the ropes and it will organically feed into Adventure mode, keeping the player pool there healthy and upskilled as they've learned the mechanics.

This is not only useful for new players but also families and players with accessibility needs - the whole game suddenly becomes available in a way it hasn't before, letting them naturally progress to High Seas and become a Pirate Legend. SoT has grown a huge amount in 5 years and it can be fairly overwhelming.

The borders put in Safer Seas mean that to experience the full depth and breadth of the game you will have to hit the high seas BUT if you're playing with your family you don't have to, you can just enjoy the game and have fun as a family.
