incoming Custom Servers : questions / ideas

    Hello everyone and Rare !
    I've been so hyped about the incoming custom server feature, been dreaming of it for a while ! But I had some questions / ideas for features !

    Me and some friends are preparing a Roleplay event for when those servers would come out, and wondered if these would be available features not

    • Would there be a way to have worldwide that messages as well as local ones ?

    • Would all players have access to all commands or only the host / and or a moderation team ?

    • Would there be a possibility to change player's name in the server to their pirate's profile name ? (Or a custom one they set ?)

    Hoping those would be things a lot of people would enjoy to be able to play with for servers if they weren't already ideas to use !

    I forgot to add somthing I also thought about for custom servers

    • Would there be a boat/players limit and can it be expanded ?

    Unknown so far, nothing special implemented for this afaik

    No there are permissions that can be given to players, if you run the current insiders build you could already check this

    Not as far as i am aware and i don’t see this happening since it is all tied to gamertag

    ship/player limits

    Max 6 ships per server

    Max 24 players per server

    These numbers aren’t likely to increase any time soon since servers are already having trouble with 6 ships currently.

    You arent tied to the normal crew limits per ship though, all 24 players could be on a single sloop crew for instance

    Yeah I saw about the limits per ships being changeable and all, which is great !
    Wondered though if it could be more than 6 ships, like maybe go up to 12 (the double) but if it's an issue to servers, I can get why it wouldn't be that doable !

    @yunema ships put a high amount of strain on the servers due to them being physics objects and have alot of calculations and client/server communication going on with them.

    I am not saying i hope they dont find a way to increase them because i would love 10+ ship adventure servers however sadly i dont see it happening

    @CallMeBackdrafT Only the future will tell then.
    But if it's limited to 6 ships there's still ways to mess around ^^

    I see tons of potential in the ability to send sea wide messages & change player profile names honestly. I’m not a huge role-player in SoT, but that little bit of immersion would be worth the change imo. My only worry would be making it harder to kick cheaters or bad actors in the custom server

    Also, while I think you can’t add additional boats in the menu or add players to those boats, I swear I saw a video of a Brigantine hilariously being cloned multiple times. It’s possible that additional ships could be added in this way, but I imagine Azure would collapse like a dying star under that additional strain

    Well, it could be added an option for the moderator(s) of said server to also see the player's gametag to ban if necessary, for security and if the server is private, also only allow some people in ?

    That won't work if the moderators / creator of the server is the toxic one hiding behind an alternative name, or they don't deem the behaviour is toxic / are protecting their friends.

    True, but then if you have a toxic person as a moderator protecting other toxic people, maybe it's not a server worth staying in ?

    It certainly is not. The issue is it will make reporting more difficult/impossible.
    Also, imagine the clips made where people impersonate other SOT players.

    Maybe the pirate / custom name could be a different color or have a small symbol before it to show it's not the gamertag ?
    And there should be ways to report servers as well if the whole server is a bad place :/
