A revival of Molten Sands Fortress

  • Hello everyone!

I, having joined during season 10, do not know much about the origin's of Molten Sands Fortress. But, I have partaken in act 2 of the current season, and having done research about the original features of Molten Sands Fortress, I feel I can make a decent suggestion.

I prepose that Molten Sands should become a permanent addition to the Sea Of Thieves. When not in use, it is very dormant and inactive, this should change.

Firstly, I feel that making Molten Sands a fort of the damned style event was very good, I feel it should stay this way. What I am suggesting is this:

Phase 1 of activation: Finding the key

Similar to the event, the Eternal Guard will be keeping the keys, and pirate legends (similar to the Fort Of The Damned with the Skull of destiny) will have a voyage to hunt them. It will be a semi long voyage where similar to Gold Hoarder Vaults, you will be tasked with finding pieces of a map that lead you to the Eternal Guards coffin (which you will dig up). When you eventually defeat the Eternal Guard, it will drop the Molten Sands Key, but unlike act 2, it will be marked on the map for all to see!

    Phase 2 of activation: Sailing

You and your crew will have to sail to Molten Sands Fortress in order to place the key onto the stand. Because of the riches that will bestow upon you after completing the fort, you will likely be contested for the key.

    Phase 3 of activation: Activation

Placing the key down is not as easy as it is (or was) in act 2, firstly, you will need the fire flame of fate in order to light the braziers. Since the code for activating the fort and flames of fate for Fort of the damned are already present within the game, I don't think this would be difficult to implement.

    Phase 4: The fight

Unlike act 2, the fight should not be as hard considering that the rewards will not match act 2 (for obvious reasons). What I am preposing here is that it will start with most waves being multiple skeleton variants, the most common being Eternal Guard skeletons. There will be two boss waves and two captain waves.

    Captain Wave No. 1:

This captain wave will contain two Ashen Guardians (one being the Keymaster) and an ashen skeleton captain.

    Boss wave No. 1:

This boss wave will contain one Skeleton Lord.

    Captain wave No. 2:

This will have 4 ashen skeleton captains. They mostly drop skulls but 1-2 of them will drop quests.

    Boss wave No. 2:

An Ashen Lord would be overkill here, as the players would have fought lots of captains and one Skeleton Lord. It should be another Skeleton Lord.

    The Treasure!:

The vault will mostly contain Ashen loot and high value items. It will not contain an Orb of souls. Like the original version of this fortress, it will contain a chest of rage, and perhaps a Chest of Legends. I'm not sure if the Chest of Legends should be the ashen variant. It would have Athena loot too!

I look forward to all your responses, let's get this implemented. Have a great day!

  • @tintintheboy molten sands fortress is not completely inactive. Emergent Skeleton Forts spawn on there as long as people are in the Roar doing things. Most people just don't like doing it and it sits not being touched. You just can't dive to it.

  • @elmo6842 Didn't know that! Thank you!

  • @TintinTheBoy Yeah, it is a normal event, but it is practically impossible to get a spawn. Good idea though. I'm down for that. Should be an Ashen lord though. I like ashen lords. Have the Ashen lords talk like during the ashen winds

  • @snugplayer18335 Yeah, fair enough! Perhaps then just one skeleton lord, not sure...

  • @tintintheboy I agree that Molten Sands should be an on-demand event, like an Ashen FotD. As it stands, that particular fort is too unique with its own difficulty setting to be relegated to a standard Emergent Skeleton Fort event with only Ashen versions of the meager loot they churn out.

However, I disagree that the Key to activate Molten Sands should show up on the map. After all, neither the Skull of Destiny nor any Ritual Skull is visible on the map. The key to open Molten Sands' actual treasure vault on the other hand, THAT should definitely show.

Regarding the waves. One Captain wave with two Ashen Guardians that both drop Ashen Keys, Ashen Villainous Bounty Skulls, and maps to extra stuff that you could also get at Forts of Fortune and Reaper Forts. Just before the wave with the Ashen Guardians, two skeletons emerge out of the ground with Stronghold Gunpowder Barrels. As for the boss wave, instead of a Skeleton Lord or even an Ashen Lord, I want to suggest a new type of enemy: Obsidian Skeleton Lords. In short, obsidian-cast versions of Skeleton Lords but with unique models, along with having both the mobility and aggression of Skeleton Lords with a curated selection of the Ashen Lords' infernal moveset (namely the fire breath, firebombs, and fiery shockwave attacks) whilst using weapons that we've never seen skeletons use before (such as Throwing Knives, Double Barrel Pistols, Blowpipes, Spears, etc.) and when defeated, an Obsidian Ashen Winds Skull is awarded along with the money bags and the key to the vault.

Now regarding the loot pool, this ought to be enough to salivate most:

    Athena's Fortune:

    • Ashen Chest of Legends: 1x (13,000--15,000)
    • Keg of Ancient Black Powder: 2x (3,000--5,000)
    • Villainous Skull of Ancient Fortune: 2x (1,400--1,550)

      Subtotals: 24,600--31,200

    Gold Hoarders:

    • Chest of Ancient Tributes: 1x (3,000--3,400)
    • Chest of Rage: 2x (3,000--3,500)
    • Ashen King's Chest: 2x (3,700--3,800)
    • Vessel of Fire: 2x (3,300--3,350)
    • Chest of Banished Tributes: 2x (2,500)

      Subtotals: 21,420--21,460

    • Crate of Precious Gemstones: 2x (2,100--3,600)
