Solo play update

  • Sea of Thieves has always been a tough game to play solo. While recent updates have made it more manageable, it’s still the hardest way to experience the game—though in some ways, that’s part of the appeal. As a dedicated solo player, I’ve sharpened my time management and skills, but one thing still bothers me. The galleon is meant for four players, the brigantine for three, and the sloop for one to two. I don’t think the sloop was truly designed for solo play, and it shouldn’t function exactly the same with only one person aboard. I’m not asking for a special solo ship, just for the sloop to have adjusted stats to make up for the missing crew—like fewer holes when hit or faster sail adjustments. I get that balancing this would be tricky, especially if the stats had to change mid-game when players join or leave, but giving solo sloops some buffs to offset the lack of crewmates seems fair. Each ship is balanced around its crew size—how much damage it can take and how many can fight while others repair. The galleon’s big size demands more players, but a solo sloop without adjustments throws that balance off, forcing one person to operate at 200% efficiency. I can get close with practice, but one small mistake can ruin everything.

Ultimately, it’s up to the devs to figure out the details, but right now the system works against solo players even more than it should

No ship ever is. Game design, your suppose to play with others.
    Player choice to play alone.

The galleon’s big size demands more players

Even if that would be the case, it also demands everyone work "Together" but most cases, someone isn't doing the work, or missing and the "well oiled machine" fails.
