Add key lore adventures

  • The "I was there" of this game is my least favourite part of it. There is no reason why over 1000 cosmetics are PERMANENTLY time locked. Dev effort into making them, art and assets that existed for a short while just to be lost to time. Bone crusher set was in an event that celebrated the addition of skeleton ships in the SECOND MONTH of the game being out. 99% of the playerbase had not yet found this game. It bothers me immensely that 80% of that set, and many others, are in the game but missing key parts for literally no reason other than to try to force people to play the game. I was too busy to play the game in 2022-3 when adventures were added. So I'm not allowed to enjoy the story of a game because I wasn't playing it at the right time? Screw that. The fact that they haven't added Herald of the flame, Dark Deception, and Rogues Legacy genuinely annoys me. Why can we start siren song on our ship AND see briggsy as a skeleton lord but not have an explanation for how she went from a skeleton lord that we killed to a phantom who is on our side again with no skeleton curse?

"Players need to understand that the story keeps rolling even when they are not online." There are so many pieces of lore that are gone, no one gets to ever SEE again, nevermind experience. Why did Flameheart return? Any player who didn't play adventures won't know. Herald of the flame is literally the reason we have Flameheart back and why stitcher Jim is dead. Dark Deception is the reason the Burning Blade is back. Rogues Legacy is the reason Briggsy is no longer a Skeleton Lord. So players who didn't get to play for the 2 week period the event was live just have to learn through watching youtube videos instead of playing the game. They want more people to come back to the game, adding the adventures back in would help a lot. The story is VERY hard to understand at this point without watching 12 hours of someone else playing content you don't get a chance to anymore. More people would spend more time playing more of the game if there was more of the game to play. There are gameplay recordings of the removed adventures, and they all have thousands of views. Thousands of people who wanted to know what that content was, because they don't get to anymore. More people than that would have played them if they were still part of the game. Add the adventures back in to pad the play time instead of making people play the same super annoying quest over and over where they have to sail to one of 10 islands, then one of 10 other islands, which they always have to solve a riddle for just to sail for 20 minutes, fight one guy, and go to the next place in 20 minutes of sailing.

  • Yes - I think that's how time limited events and items are supposed to be.

  • The "I was there" of this game is my least favourite part of it.

With an ever evolving, changing of time game...of course you will miss events and moments.
Like Port Merrick, Nobody today unless they ask or read (some dont read) the Lore will know its Old name.
Or events like Reaper Hideout was just a nameless island where a ship sake....

Cant go backwards, got to go forward

  • @kianonboard Try reading what I wrote again. What I am saying is that the game doesn't make sense without them in as key lore. You didn't actually answer any of my questions, you just the first sentence and decided to go from there.

@burnbacon I'm not trying to gO bAcK tO tHe oLd wAyS, I'm saying events that are key to the lore of the world should still be accessible, having them time limited was beyond stupid in the first place. Without the lore established in those adventures, we do not EVER get to know how the lore played out without going to external sources. I even noted three VITALLY important pieces of lore. If you play the game but didn't play the adventures, there is lore that you will never get to know. One day the Burning Blade just showed up. Somehow, Briggsy returned. They used to have the sword of souls in Athenas Fortune, up where you get the blessing. You no longer get to know why it became tainted and why it had to be confiscated from Arthur. You never learn what events actually caused Flameheart to return. It's a video game, the idea that they would leave out lore intentionally is really endlessly dumb to me when there are already logical contradictions you can make. It's possible to have 3 sword of souls from different points in the timeline in the same place at the same time. You can put the "ancient skull" next to Flameheart as he sits on his throne. You can see Briggsy as a phantom and as a skeleton lord at the same time. The idea that it could mess with timelines is silly because all it does is actually help establish the timelines

  • I do hope that Rare takes all the lessons learned over this game and makes a Sea of Thieves 2 one day where they can apply that knowledge from the start (which would allow them to address certain things that they simply can't with the game as it stands).

One of those things that I think would be good would be to make all Tall Tales take place in the Sea of the Damned since there is the whole thing about it being shaped by memory. Adventures should come back and allow for a changing world as you will have instance snapshots of the old world in the Sea of the Damned in the Tall Tales. Every few Adventures you can repackage them as Tall Tale Chapters (maybe every 3 Adventures to one Chapter) which doesn't feature player choice -it is an on rails narrative like they are now - but is more "cinematic" and "narrative" than they Adventure was while still conveying the same plot and results.

This would be a great way to get the Adventures as a rolling player interactive narrative without having to toss everything that was once done as it can be repurposed into Tall Tales. This would mean everyone always has access to the ongoing and ever building narrative from start to finish, I could actively engage in shaping that narrative.

In theory this one could potentially be done in the current game possibly, unlike some other things they could try to do better, but regardless if there is a SoT2 one day that is the way they should approach all of that, personally.
