New Tutorial/Rebalance Needed

  • With the amount of content now in the game, new players deserve a little more in-depth tutorial. They should also stress in the tutorial that loot isn't yours until it's sold. Looking through all the reviews for the game, the most common reason players are leaving 1 star reviews is because they are upset about being sunk and having their hours of work lost.
Rare could possibly look at a rebalance and maybe players that are not Pirate Legends get half the value of an items gold upon obtaining it from voyage/raid/W.E. (doesn't count for stealing someone's treasure) and the other half when they sell it. Once you become a Pirate Legend, then it reverts back to normal rules. I think that new players have a hard time coming to terms with losing out on gold vs time, whereas most seasoned players will sink someone just for the fun and not because they want or need the gold. So giving swabbies half gold and rep for treasure up until they reach PL, might be a good way to retain some new players. I was actually astonished that so many reviews were 1 star on Xbox simply because new players didn't understand the concept of the game is PvPvE. Thoughts?

  • @thamb0 Ahoy matey!

The new tutorial already teaches that nothing is yours until it is cashed in... it's one of the Pirate Lord voice lines when you do the tutorial Gold Hoarder quest.

If you'd like to see what it's like you can run the Tutorial again from your voyage table.

  • @musicmee thanks, I have done all the trading company tutorials. I am not saying this for my benefit, but I was trying to come up with a way to help out newer players that seem to have a general consensus on this with their negative reviews that I was reading. I think a voice line from the PLord vs a NPC in the tutorial taking your loot to set up expectations is what I was looking for. IDK, I was just trying to think of another way to help brand new players that might be having a tough time. Hence why I also mentioned the half gold players instantly get when you dig up, discover, claim a piece of treasure for those that are not yet PL. Almost like a grace period.

  • leaving 1 star reviews is because they are upset about being sunk and having their hours of work lost

It like these kids never played an online game before. That like leaving a 1 star in Minecraft because some player blew up your house. XD

  • @thamb0 that's what safer seas is for.
It's a cop out, but it's what the pve crowd asked for

  • @captain-fob4141 I was still trying to look for a middle ground, in order to keep new players on the High Seas instead of Safer Seas. I think a lot of people wanted Safer Seas, but looking for ways to get them back into the High Seas should be discussed. I still like my idea of half gold awarded instantly, but I'd love to hear other ideas.

  • Giving people half the gold from finding loot and the rest when selling would only teach people that they get half the loot only to stop getting their half cut when they become legend, which is arguably worse to teach only to have it taken away, than just learning you can lose everything at any time.

  • @goldsmen If they know about it in advance, I think they'll be able to stomach the trade off down the line when they get PL status. Most people that are brand new don't realize what the game is right away and are turned off from spending time to see zero results and some are not optimistic enough to see it as experience gained. I def do not see it as worse to help newer players out and then take the "training wheels" off for those new players that want to try the High Seas from the start, but don't want to be sent to the Ferry penniless. We're at a point where people like me with thousands of hours can forget that this game can be A LOT for new players. Giving them a little extra coin in the beginning isn't going to make them leave once they become PLs, especially if they know that will take place from the start.
