Reaper, Order of Souls and Hunter's Call voyages

  • I understand that the reapers faction is a PvP faction, however I think that they should get some sort of voyages, for example a voyage, which when selected, places a bounty on one of the ships on the server and upon completion, you get gold, and the amount will depend on how much loot they have on board, what emissary flag they have, ship size and whether it is a captains ship or not. They could also have a voyage, credit given to @CliffTheStoryGuy, where you would be given a bounty where you would have to intercept a merchant fleet. Order of soul should also get at least two new base voyages, to refurbish that faction a bit. One example could be, receiving a couple meg bounty's, but upon defeating, you have to collect the soul and return it to the a specific trading company representative, like in merchant cargo runs. They could introduce new harder megs, like devils roar variants. Hunter's call could do with some voyages, making them more fun, like sailing out into an area where a kraken has been spotted and defeating it. There would be a new animation where, upon defeating the kraken, when the inky water disappears, a tentacle floats up and you have to carve a piece off with a knife, which will be in your quest wheel, as soon as you begin the voyage. You would then return the meat to a Hunter's call representative. The meat would be larger than normal kraken meat.

If you disagree, I'm open to criticism about my suggestions.

  • i would love to see a bounty system implement thought the game but a hunters call I'm torn on

  • So the game puts a hit on other players?

That is really poor design. Not to mention most of the time you won't be able to find the other player or they will have signed off, server hopped, etc.

  • understand that the reapers faction is a PvP faction

Where does it say this? It just a faction that goes after other factions due to “pirate code”.
What makes it different is you can do any voyage you choose as that faction.

  • @burnbacon just the fact that it is highly motivated to ovp as this faction, stolen loot gives more reputation and hourglass gives the best reputation.

So yeah reapers bones is mainly a pvp faction

  • @burnbacon

understand that the reapers faction is a PvP faction

    Where does it say this?

Rare have literally said it themselves.

  • @tesiccl

Hmph, they tend to say a lot that the whole community over thinks "what they meant"

    @callmebackdraft

So...if Gold Hoarders start sinking other ships looking for GH loot only...does that make them pvp faction as well?
Same with Athena, what if they became the norm for pvp players? Fact players miss the point doesnt make it right xD

  • While you guys are trying to out pedant one another, can the rest of us get back to talking about those Reaper emissary voyages? I would prefer to keep the Grade 5 reward as is, seeing all emissaries on the map. However, I also recognize that it is probably a bit overpowered considering how easy it is to dive to other servers now. Even when the meta was to use POTC portals to change servers, there was a significant time investment to jump servers. Now jumping is almost instant.

I don't like the bounty idea unless the Reaper ship's crew puts a bounty on itself. I would never support making an uninterested crew a bounty target.

It is a FACT that the same loot (so for instance a captains chest) will give more reputation when sold to reapers if it is STOLEN from a different crew compared to one you have dug up yourself.

Next to that it has been specifically made that Hourglass is basically the best way to get reputation for reapers…

This is only true for reapers, not for gold hoarders.

I have also dm’ed you other proof that cannot be shared on these part of the forums, reapers is meant to be a PvP faction.

  • @callmebackdraft honestly save yourself the effort. He will counter argue anything for the sake of another post.

In terms of the idea, I don't think reapers need a voyage as you have the tools to hunt emissaries at g5 anyway. The game trying to assign a target is just not worth it as there'd be so many factors and players would inevitably find ways to work around them. Put a harpoon at reapers hideout and it is a vast improvement

Wouldn't mind the Meg hunts although they shouldn't count towards commendations. I think they specifically state in chance encounters because there was the adventure which spawned them

  • @burnbacon

Hmph, they tend to say a lot that the whole community over thinks "what they meant"

They have literally said the words. There’s no room for interpretation on that one.

  • No. SoT does not need a player bounty system. The Emissary flags do that just fine.
In fact; Emissaries do it better because it's opt-in; The player chooses to be a target.
The game randomly throwing a bounty on my head for someone else's enjoyment with 0 consent from me is a bad idea.

Also; What happens if your target realizes they have a bounty on them & Dive/Scuttle-Server-Hop/Log out?
Do you just fail? Does it switch to someone else?
What happens if people keep leaving? Then people will be on here, demanding ways to prevent runners from running. As we already saw a few weeks ago with a certain player demanding runners be forced to fight him.

  • Bounties aren't going to work with how fluid player ships have become. They transition in and out of servers a lot more now, so trying to track down a specific ship is only going to lead to frustration and eventual abandonment of the bounty system when the ships keep disappearing.

I would like to see some other ability replace the map visibility system they are currently using for Emissaries. Reapers no longer show up on the map, and at Grade 5 they would get some other ability instead of being able to see other emissaries. Maybe something like a much more lucrative veil or something? Special loot that isn't reputation crippled for Reapers, but would also be very valuable to the other trading companies. This might create more of a back and forth between reapers and other emissaries; for the first four grades, the reapers are hunting. Once they unlock their emissary voyage, they are now possibly being hunted. That could be fun.
