Red Lion w/ Antlers figurehead

  • Since a lot of inspiration came from Windwaker, it would be cool to be able to get a ship set that’s similar in likeness to the ship from Windwaker. Even a costume called “Timeless Warrior” that has you wear a tattered green tunic with barnacles on it. I just imagine having a blonde legacy beard equipped and looking like a swoll Link/Lonk with a ripped pirate. The hat could just be a green octopus hanging onto your head dropping down into a soft point as to avoid any licensing copyright issues.

So it wouldn’t be a Zelda ship set and cosmetic, just a ship set and cosmetics that drew inspiration from the games-wink wink.

  • @robby0316 Not sure where you heard Rare saying Windwaker was a big inspiration for SoT… but still, even from a legal perspective, Rare would still need Nintendo’s permission to use LoZ’s likeness in their game. It’s not enough to just simply design something “inspired” by it then sell on their store for real money. Big legal no no. And knowing Nintendo, it would probably be a no anyway.

"It was in our original Sea of Thieves pitch document," Neate admits. "Our pitch was Pirates of the Caribbean crossed with [The Legend of Zelda] The Wind Waker. The freedom of the pirate life, being the pirate you want to be... that's Pirates of the Caribbean. And then the open world where there's something always over the horizon, that's Wind Waker. And then the humour of The Goonies. Those were the three things in our pitch. So it's always been there. And everyone has always asked for it. When anybody streams the games, you'll have someone stick on the [Captain Jack Sparrow] costume or play the music.

  • @robby0316 interesting, never seen them mention Windwaker before. Seems like more in the context of the expansive sea with islands in between.
