Excuse my noob question. If I log out, how long does my ship stay in game? Does it sink or just vanish? One reason I ask is that yesterday I saw a galleon with very tatty sails. The sails appeared to be extended but the ship was hardly moving. I watched it for ten minutes and it did nothing. Then suddenly it disappeared. I was not sure what happened there.

Force quit would be pressing Alt-F4 on PC or switchimg off the apperatus you're playing on (though I would advice against doing this) - which would stop the game (or any piece of software that is running and active); ending the internet connection would also stop you playing and keep your ship on the server for a bit as you can try to reconnect within 10 minutes or so.
