Possible Spoilers Ahead following the First Adventure.

  • At first I thought it was a nice little Easter egg for us in the 90s that played and grew up with the amazing Monkey Island games. Listening to Beanland's musical remaster of the theme was incredible.

But now, I think the curtain is being revealed that 'the Captain' (mentioned in Dark Brethren ) is quite possibly LeChuck from this franchise. And I'll explain why I think this in a short series of clues:

-The Easter Egg is first found in Pirate Life TT1 - the Setting is The Sea of the Damned. (Basically the home of these phantoms that are dreading the Sea of Thieves)
-This universe is attached to Lucasarts, not Pirates of the Carribean. (Fun Fact: PoTC: On Stranger Tides is from a 1988 novel that both inspired the fourth movie AND Monkey Island).
-The maps of the islands in the universe are shown.
-One journal ponders 'If Guybrush ever made it to the Sea of Thieves' which confirm there is the possibility of a connection.

    The First Adventure connection:

-Flameheart retreats as phantoms (Repears phantoms) appear in the SoT.
-One of the items to return to bell is the Hex Relic - Order of Souls item - Voodoo-like doll/head/object.
-LeChuck first appeared as a 'ghost' pirate but was obsessed with 'Voodoo' magic and subsequently changed forms using magic. (In particular, LeChuck using a Hexdoll on Guybrush in the first poster of the second game).
-The 'memories' in the Adventure appear to indicate that the Reapers were hiding stuff (not gold - but these objects and artifacts).

For those that have never played the Monkey Island games, it is highly recommended. And you'll see some parallels between the games with the humor and inspiration. When I first saw the Devils Roar TT with Flameheart's ghost ship surrounded by lava, it took me back to the first image we got from LeChuck in the first game.

^^ Here is the full description of the character (with more spoilers). It seems to me he fits the bill for all this Sea of the Damned connection.

    So, only time will tell.

A few other connects that I think are:

-Warsmith Wanda (seen in TT3) appears to be back (after we battled her and her ship in Cursed Sails) and her followers appear to be the Reapers that are in these ghost forms.
-Wanda experimented with magic and was at odds with the Order of Souls - helping create the cursed cannonballs and skeleton fleets.
-Reaper artifacts have Skeleton writings on them with the notorious Red aura emanating from them.
-Pendragon is considered the 'Champion of The Order of Souls' which gave him the 'Sword of Souls'
-And who was it that convinced Jack Sparrow to go to the Sea of Thieves? Pendragon

So with those notes, it could be that the OOS using Pendragon (a cursed spirit) helped convince Jack Sparrow to go to the Sea of Thieves to figure out all this mess as Wanda and LeChuck apparently want to use the army to rule the world using magic forbidden by the OOS.

*Wanda - Wondrous Secrets? Lol (a little cute way of putting her name on the elusive box that is worth a lot of gold. Maybe I'm going a bit off the deck here).
