Guys, we recently came up with idea how sloop could be additionaly decorated. The picture below depicts the idea, in this case the picture from sails is doubled in the back part of the ship.
NEW type of SHIP COSMETICS

Not possible sadly since some hull design actually has proper artwork that is shown on that but it is a good idea.
I would rather see new cosmetics for lantern, railing, harpoon and nameplate got our ship
Could be added I guess: if you don't equip this, the default canopy or the one that goes with the hull design is shown.
@butterfinger750 Maybe then this pattern should go with the color of the hull. Then you can assemble a complete set.
And as for the harpoon and other things, I completely agree with you.

I'd also add: furniture (and maybe even furniture layout).
The potential for furniture cosmetics seems obvious and like a no-brainer, but I also think it would be a lot more fun—and tactical—if players were able to (re)position the furniture on the ships.
Maybe not Sims-level control, but if players could choose between ~3 different furniture layouts (for each ship) I think it would add a whole new element of strategy to boarding and fighting (and maybe even help with improving respawn locations to prevent spawn-camping).
@freakwood09 ...had a need for what?
I was just stating something I would enjoy... 🤣 Wasn't looking for feedback ✌
@ninja-naranja That's right) we have a lot of other ideas. We made a video about it. watch it if you're interested!

@butterfinger750 Anything is possible in the Sea of Thieves. I didn’t believe that Jack Sparrow would ever come to the Sea of Thieves and I was wrong.
@freakwood09 I feel like if Rare did this the canopy for the sloop would be would most likely be a duplicate of the main sail. It would still be cool but it’s also kinda disappointing because the brigantine and the gallon don’t have a tarp that can be decorated
@coffeelight5545 I guess thats a cool idea, even though brig and galy dont have such part, but they have more sails
Cant wait to see it on ships.
Also mostly we dont see what is on our sails unless we come to the front part of our ship(@thagoochiestman said in NEW type of SHIP COSMETICS:

The artbook shows a few variations of the bottom deck of the Galleon (some with hammocks, more storage, different brig designs), and that is still to this day one of my most wished for additions. The ability to chose between different ship layouts would add a lot of variety.
I feel like your idea would be a good captaincy update. Essentially my idea is to create an entirely different looking version of the Sloop, Brigantine and Gallon. They would still have the same speed crew size and cannons but they would look completely different and only be available to Pirate Legends.
The fancy versions of the ships would only be available as long as at least 1 pirate legend was on the crew ledger. If there is no Pirate Legend on the crew the ship would return to the normal ships if scuttled or sunk.
@coffeelight5545 Yes, that's a terrific idea! We've been thinking about it too. And I recently saw some amazing concept art from their book. If they did something like that, it would be really cool. I especially like the third ship on top..!
@butterfinger750 Majority of sloop canopies are just coloured cloth, as such a slight change to them to make an entirely new cosmetic choice would not be an issue in my eyes. Lantern/harpoon/Helm Compass/Etc customization has been suggested countless times before, I'm pretty indifferent. I don't mind if its added but im not upset that it isn't.
Back side of the ship. They used decoration. There are lots of pictures from those art works.
@butterfinger750 Let me equip my handheld lanterns on the ship's lanterns!!!! Bone Crusher lanterns, skulls all over the ship 🤩
Open the Ship Customization chest, and the lantern tab works like the lanterns in the equipment chest.
I mean, the canopy could make use of the unused on the Sloop secondary Sails that the Galleon and Brig get to use on their extra Sails when using any given cosmetic and apply that to the canopy at least. As it stands, the Sloop sort of gets burned on that and it would make the canopy a little more interesting depending on Sail design (and would of course require linking it to Sail designs rather than Hull designs). That might even be a quick and easier to implement situation.
And I'd still also like to see the Lantern, Harpoons, and Compass get cosmetics (I even feel like some of the existing Lantern and Compass cosmetics might work on the Ship versions and so would give them a solid batch out of the gate to release the features). Harpoons would need a custom job, but would be cool to customize.
I also think getting different Map Table skins (same map, different art styles) would be pretty cool since those are exactly the same across all the Ships. Maybe the Stove could have some different Cosmetics as well since all Ships have those too now. Brig styles could also be a thing too since that is another consistent feature.
Rowboats, unlike some folks, I'm not a fan of having Cosmetics for since those are environmental finds and not part of your standard Gear or Ship. So I'm cool with those just having a generic skin like they do now.
I also think it would be cool, potentially with a Captaincy Update if it ever still happens, to rearrange the layouts in general ways (predesigned sets in order to maintain placement balance and such) and having some cosmetic variance in things there. Tack in some Ship Naming (also probably fairly restricted) along with that and you have a solid basis for Captaincy as the Captain gets to set those options (Captain being the one who starts the Ship, they already get tagged in the crew list normally, and I believe the game even swaps this tag to another player if that person leaves the game).
Those few tweaks would make different Ships actually feel a little more different overall than they do now which would be a good thing for the game. Makes your Ship feel a little more personal.
@redeyesith Thank you so much for the extended comment! I agree that we need skins for lanterns and harpoons, that could be a great innovation.
But as for tables and stoves...maybe yes, but personally for me it's not that important. But I admit that I might well like it. Another thing is that it's an extra burden on the design department and is it justified?
