The red sea and destruction of treasure.

We red sea whats left of the treasure with our emissary flag. This is the first and likely the only time I'll do this.

The mechanic is not really fun for any body. We destroy our own ship, and effectively destroy the treasure. This fight was hours long and a hard battle fought between both sides.

I would like to see a change that when players attempt to red sea their ship, the treasure on board teleports when and with the players to a location that is within map boundaries.

This would completely negate any "advantage" to red sea'ing your ship. Although it's not really an advantage at all, you're just ensuring no one gets the treasure while having wasted every ones time. Not fun.

My original intent was to "play in the red sea" hoping that the added pressure from the red sea might turn the tide in our favor slightly, but I was convinced to go full coward and completely red sea.

    Hey, we're pirates right?

  • Not that I know how the world is built 3d or code-wise but I think they could of made an invisible wall at the world boundary and this would solve people doing this both accidentally and on purpose. They can still have the red there but when you get to the point where the server force-sinks your ship and teleports you, instead it is a hard boundary that your ship/treasure/players cannot pass.

I believe the original intent of the red was for the lore of the shroud around the Sea of Thieves so they may never change this.

I don't think the invisible wall would feel very good in the world, plus it may be a nightmare to implement due to the golden shores tall tale.

Maybe the red sea can do everything it does now, but can slow the ship just like happens during the Kraken fights. instead of allowing me to burn out there as fast as I can. (Changed my mind, golden shores needs to be able to move.) The treasure can float to surface at the red seas border instead of where the ship sinks. This should prevent treasure destruction and end this generally lame tactic.

    Another edit:
Or hell, if any treasure sinks in the red sea just move it to the golden shores on that server. That place needs a treasure buff any way.

Nevermind on that too. That would encourage people to red sea in effort to retrieve their treasure later. Just spawn the treasure at the red seas border whenever the ship sinks.

  • Here's some tissue for those salty tears.

Looks like someone else doesn't like a viable strategy.

They couldn't stop you from getting to the red. They don't deserve the loot anymore than you did.

No I don't. While it's in the game, I'll accept the fact that it happens and attempt to deal with it. But, I'd like to see a change made that makes this red sea strat undesirable to perform. I think it's intended that you may have to fight me for my treasure not that you can destroy the treasure from the world before any one turns it in.

I think it will be more fun for every one if there was no good reason to do it. (Because they will get your treasure if you do.)

Certainly debatable. Map borders aren't intended as treasure drop offs, outposts are.

  • I am fine with it in place.

Not going to bother arguing the details as this debate gets heated. My crew and I don't find issue with it as we see it as more fun to either make them feel safe so they come back in or try to catch them as they try to escape into the Devil's Shroud.

I also like how it fits with the lore of the game. The Devil's Shroud is impassible with very few exceptions, so anything that makes it too far in will have no chance of being retrieved.

  • My buddy and I usually like to fight whenever we can even with large amount of loot at stake, but honestly if we have sunk a ship multiple times and they keep on coming back widdling our supplies because Rare didnt fix the ship respawn distance. We will just swing by Marrow's Peak and pick up the Shores of Gold Tall Tale and sail into the that portion of the Red Sea, and if they sink because they fallowed us without the proper tools then great we both have laughs about it, but if they just hang out at the edge just waiting we will just AFK till we both get Lazybearded and let the Gold Hoarder have some more gold.
