Missing files from MS store

  • Ahoy Pirates,

Dunno just to expose my troubles.

I already contacted Rare support, and they told me to ask for MS support instead.

    Well.

After downloading the seabound package (about12Gig) I launched the game, loading to the outpost then occured an error.
    Let's call it error #1.
    Missing file : Game/Blueprints/GameObjects/Cooking/BP_CampfireCookingPot
    SEO : /Game/Maps/wide_sea_of_plunder_wsp_outpost_1/sharedassets/wsp_outpost_1_design

So. At this point I asked for help to Rare (and they are very reactive)

    As usual maneuver : Restart/reset/uninstall/reset/restart/install/update/restart/launch.

I only had to download 30Mo after uninstall the game, that was suprising, the game is 42Go on my harddrive.

So. I tried to launch the game.
    Then error #2.
    Missing file : Game/Blueprints/GameObjects/Cooking/BP_CampfireCookingPot
    SEO : /Game/Maps/the_wilds/wld_outpost_2/sharedassets/wld_outpost_2_design

Now, Rare support says it's actually a MS store problem, so I have to deal with them.

But, how to uninstall the whole game ? I mean, I only had 30Mo to download after uninstalling it.

I'm a bit lost to be honest at this point. I want to try the new update as soon as possible !

Mates, I need your help !

  • Hello. Im assuming you are on windows. In Windows 10, type "apps and features" in the search bar and locate sea of thieves. upon clicking it it shall prompt you with an uninstall button. if that does not work you may need to delete the sea of thieves files manually.

    (c OR d):\WindowsApps\Microsoft.SeaofThieves_2.87.8848.2_x64__8wekyb3d8bbwe.
If a WindowsApps folder is not found look in program files.
i would back up these files just in case but if your uninstalling it SHOULD be fine.
    im not responsible.

  • As a nuclear option you can always do a Windows reset.

It'll remove all installed apps and return you to a fresh windows install state. Your files will still be there but all games and apps will need to be reinstalled.

Use it as a last resort because it'll mean reinstalling everything.

If you're stuck and nothing else works it should sort out your Microsoft Store issues though.

  • Ahoy mates !

    I took contact with MS.

One of their techs made me updated to the latests versions for win10.

But, there is still a question that he couldn't understand.

When uninstalling Sea Of Thieves (42.7GB) into "apps and features", I also reseted the app before uninstalling it, it must take a full download of the files, right ? So 42.7GB ?
When downloading in the MS Store, it only downloads a 30Mb file.

So I gave myself the rights to modify "WindowsApps" and deleted all of the files I could remove from my 2 SoT directories.

So now, the windows store tells 43.25GB.
I hope that after the huge download it'll be the end of the problem.

I remember a time that we can repair/fix missing files/package for softwares, why can't we have such an app nowadays, or a way to check the directories and compares to the original folder ?

I'm a bit lost with the bug I had. If missing two files, like the blueprints I needed, I want to understand why I can't download the missings files, paste it in the directory, et voilà !

  • To give more explanations :
I downloaded a soft on MS website with a link from their tech. It updated my laptop by itself.
Then I went to MS Store, to install SoT. It downloaded about 30Mb.
Launched the game. It works. Try to launch a sloop, and while loading, error. Missing files.
But. The MS tech said when uninstalling the game via "apps and features" it'll remove all the content. But it's wrong, obviously, something went wrong during uninstalling.

I tried to play apprentice-sorcer with my "admin-deleting-windowsApps-solution", abut I will use your solution BoxCar Squidy it was already my final solution.

  • It was probably a problem with the file directory. It would seem you had SOT installed on one drive (lets just say C:) while the MS store was downloading the 30mb or what not to the other drive (D:). the missing files the game is talking about (campfirecookingpot or whatever it was )would most likely be those exact 30mb which you have been deleting and re downloading. it couldn't read the 30mb as it was installed in the wrong location.

  • @butterpig01 The fact is I only have one drive. So... That's very very interesting for me to understand why it doesn't seems to be working as it should !
As we can't choose any directory for MS store installation, their solution (microsoft) wasn't efficient. Let's try all solutions. I want to try the latest update.

  • ok... im not sure what to do at this point. so.. just to clarify what is the current situation?
you are still receiving the error that there is a missing file and when trying to re-download SOT it only downloads 30mb? i can continue to look but im not sure if i will find anything. ill let you know if i do.

  • @butterpig01 I accessed to the WindowsApps folder with the rights to modify directories to delete "Microsoft.SeaofThieves_2.87.8848.2_x64__8wekyb3d8bbwe" AND "Microsoft.ScreenSketch_2019.904.1644.0_neutral_~_8wekyb3d8bbwe" because using the microsoft tool "Uninstall" was not effective. And they are not able to understand, or at least, I'm not clear enough while explaining in a language which is not my mother tongue.
So, I deleted as much files as possible into those directories, and now, the download in MS Store is 43.25Go instead of the 30Mo I experienced before.
I have a bad connection, so it takes time to download.
    I can't wait to try....

  • I had to uninstall the game completely then use the wsreset command, and redownload for mine to fix that. Idk for sure why it did it, and which fixed it but it works for me now.

  • @grimholde It had not work for me. Like I said, "uninstall-tool" didn't work as it had to. WSReset, in admin mode, didn't work neither.
None of my interlocutors was able to find an explanation, or I'm very very bad at speaking english. I had to find a custom solution, with all the informations I had gleaned, at my disposal.

  • @mirkop076 are you the only user on the computer? Do you have admin access?

If not, you may only be downloading and removing it from your profile.

  • It's working now. Don't know what happened but it's good !
