Give Duke a proper Black Market

  • Duke's "Black Market" doesn't feel like one, as he is selling ship parts, accessories and outfits previously unobtainable without commendations for doubloons inside the tavern in front of the whole outpost. He is also part of the "Bilge Rats", but we only ever see him, so it feels like they don't even exist.

My suggestion is to leave Duke at the tavern so you can turn in loot and buy missions and commendation letters from him, but create a new store with different Bilge Rat members on the back of outposts, like makeshift shady stores that look like some illegal system away from the other factions that sell all the monthly cosmetics.

This will make his faction more alive and fleshed out while also exploring all those "back entrances" and different piers on the Outposts.

  • Love this idea. Would really help give purpose to the different docks at the outpost and thematically makes more sense.

  • @am0rim2108 black markets are supposed to not look like markets, but i agree we need more bilgerat members
maybe new members in diffrent tarvens, Duke stays in plunder outpost (most popular outpost next to goldens sands) for example

  • @tedgie2574

The thing is Duke is too "on the nose", you know what I mean? That's why I said to place them outside the Outposts "villages", away from the factions eyes and to look like it was assembled fast and could be gone in a minute if they were spotted by the other factions, giving the Bilge Rats more character and a criminal appearance (if this is what Rare is going for, I don't know much about them).

  • At every outpost, there's:

    1. a fenced in area behind the OoS,
    2. a small tent held up with a barrel and pole,
    3. a backdoor or outside steps behind the tavern, and
    4. a campfire.

All of these would make great spots for these black market bilge rats.

  • @am0rim2108
I'd say use the upper tavern for it. Duke can be magical and everywhere, but the black market could have a different bilge rat on each outpost.

  • it would be cool if you had to follow clues to find Duke and to get to him youd have to save him or something from a few hard skelly waves each update.

  • @blunderbuddy
Duke chased off Greymarrow's crew once. I don't think he'll need saving.

  • @ultmateragnarok Greymarrow's crew is a far cry from Greymarrow himself...

  • @galactic-geek

Yes, but it's more than your average skeleton wave. And a lot more than anything the trading companies could do.

  • @ultmateragnarok You think we'll ever personally see Duke put up a fight?

  • @galactic-geek

If we ever do, it'll be in a trailer animation. That, or in some sort of massive battle for the Sea of Thieves as a whole.

I wouldn't mind seeing him in a trailer...

Nor would I, Rare's animations are amazing both in and out of the game.
