I've met tonight Ye Olde Karen and has been overnerfed IMO. In a duo sloop, only 11 cannon balls, a bit of bailing and about 12 flintlock shots (and I'm counting both, not per pirate) and she fleed like she forgot something in the new cooking pans. Now is not a legendary sea monster, is only a joke. Maybe some people finded her difficult before this, but was easy before and now is just like to vote a voyage in the captains table...

It's ridiculous! Solo slooper here 🙋♂️I found the kraken pre update to be very easy and simple and now I'm more afraid of the storm than the kraken!
If they keep simplifying the game to cater for cry babies and care bears then this game will flop hard.. first time I've been worried about the future of this game!It irks me that anything of challenge in this game that requires good crew coordination gets nerfed to the ground. This is one of the big reasons why I see the AI threats in this game are mediocre. Their was nothing really difficult about the Kraken before, its just required a little prepping for the one type of tentacle wrap. That was it.
I guess I have more of a reason to pick fights with ships, at least they might be an actual challenge to fight.
@nabberwar bruhhhhh the kraken never required teamwork on a sloop lol, it was dead donkey easy af. i literally had my friend who had played for less than an hour take on a brigs kraken by himself. the brigs kraken is like 2 x harder than the sloops. and heeee told me he thought it was way to easy so i seriously dont understand the thought that it needed a nerf
@d4m0r3d I also never explicitly said sloop, that encounter could be solo'd easily, I've done it. When I say coordination, its more of a low bar type of coordination. Besides player ship fighting, no encounter requires a bar minimum of player coordination. Kraken at least required a small amount if the stairwell got blocked.
As much as i don't like to judge an update after just 1 play session, even if that session was 6 hours long.
I would agree the Kraken is imo far too easy currently and as an avid solo slooper this should not be something i should be saying.
Infact the Meg's and Don's gave me many more serious issues during encounters this session than the once fear inducing Karen now seems to.@amancebacabras said in Karen overnerfed:
@bundui Did you find her "hard" before? ...
I don’t find kraken hard, but some people do and thats why it was nerfed.
Those "some people" are purely the new players. The encounter was already pretty easy for anyone familiar with the game and knows the importance of keeping your ship well stocked.
New players SHOULD find such encounters hard. It's all part of the learning experience. What they're doing here is once again, submitting/acquiescing to the vocal minority, the as yet, unskilled new players, who are complaining about something being hard, before even TRYING to learn how to cope with it. The game offers ZERO challenge in PVE atm and the Kraken encounter was one of the only events that had a small chance of beating you if the tentacle wrapped over the hatch... now it's been nerfed into yet another dull, un-challenging event that no doubt, some of these new players will STILL somehow get sunk by.

Yeah, this entirely. The vocal minority speaks out for change, and the majority who are happy with something don't say anything. So the vocal minority is who Rare will hear... Hopefully they can start analyzing things a little more closely and not taking the feedback for face value.
@chronodusk I spoke out against any changes, other than the brig wrap on stairs. And only because on the brig, if it wrapped the stairs, sometimes the head would be on the wrong side of the ship, so you couldn't get to it with cannon or guns unless you jumped into the ink.
Solo slooping a kraken became second nature to me, in fact, I stopped thinking of it as a challenge as in hard, and thought of it more as an automatic thing that I would success in killing it off. I even started sailing into krakens that spawned on other ships to help them, or just kill it myself.

I have seen this type of comment a lot, and just to clarify:
Rare said somewhere that it wasn't based on forum/reddit/twitter feedback, that it was from new player feedback and data they collected.
It isn't because a few people complained.
I also was a proponent of "calamity at sea", making the kraken sound just strike fear in the heart of players.
I have posted quite a few times it should be only survivable if stocked well and you had a competent crew. But I have amended that some, based on what Rare said.
Perhaps it should be in a "opted in" area where you venture there and take that risk, like the way Devils Roar is, so new players aren't discouraged and quit.@ruigtand-nl said in Karen overnerfed:
Nice so we can play pirate now instead of continue monster madness :") dont need karen every voyage thats just lame and not a rare encounter with a mythical monster. They can buff her i dont care i just dont want every voyage to see this thing in it let alone 3 times..
Right! Not mythical if you always see them. It is like Sasquatch moves down the street from you and starts commuting to the forest. Being hard is ok and way it should be to mean something. Should not be speed bumps in the sea.
