I already have 2 videos of 2 guys doing the afk macro dance at the ferry and reported them thru Xbox, but I feel like that's not enough. I want to send the gamertags and videos directly but I can't even use the support request on this website, because the 'submit' link at the bottom doesn't even work. They should at least add something that kicks people out of the game if they're at the ferry for too long, even when they're using macros to move the character around. Though I really do want to see these people lose all of their experience and stuff...
When are they gonna start banning afkers?
Banning AFKs? Is it really needed?
For AFK?Maybe a kick session out.. if it's really abusive.
What I can't see much a difference what one AFK can make in the whole session.
People need to away for a little while.
That won't affect my gameplay.Well if you're playing with radoms I can understand the frustration of seeing others not working as you are there trying to do something.
But that's what playing with radoms is.. a gambling of players behavior.
I personally like to avoid it.
If that bugs you really that much, you can consider a server change. Trying to find other people to play with.See those AFK as an unmatched player. If You're incompatible to play together what you can do? Change servers, find other players. 😉
I really think ban people for that is too much.
@nunoazuldimeter I think he means people rubber banding their controller to stay on the ferry indefinitely without getting a lazybeard.
Haven't seen is as often recently, but afk leeching is an issue in open match making. The sad thing is if you leave the session then some other poor soul will land on the ship in your empty spot. The cycle inevitably continues.
I agree that a ban may be a bit much, but there needs to be something that a crew can do if they prefer, or are forced into open matchmaking.
@sshteeve said in When are they gonna start banning afkers?:
@rabbyt3 as an add on to what I have posted above, Rare have started handing out bans. But for what we don't yet know.
I know they have started banning people using third party programs to gain an advantage. But I don't think they are issuing bans on those exploiting in game mechanics.
Let's face it, if they did that, half of the player base would be banned!
I do agree that afk-ers are a drag. However, I can see the difficulty in doing anything about it. Think about piloting the ship. You stand in one place for an extended amount of time repeating the same action over and over. So, if your quartermaster doesn't move enough, they could possibly get kicked....that's a problem. Same can be said for a lookout, or the navigator.
Now, booting people who have been on the ferry too long....I can get behind that!
I do agree that banning is an extreme way of dealing with these afkers. I suppose I was triggered when writing this thread, due to thinking that I'm here doing so much to raise my experience while others can just sit back and do nothing while being rewarded for it. It's not a huge issue though because what @NunoAzuldimeter suggests is correct, you can always join another session. It doesn't harass or bother other players or limits anybody's playing experience (unless they decide to play in the same crew with them). But wouldn't it demoralize other players if they see a guy rocking the whole neon green IT costume running in circles like a madman on the ferry? I mean playing the game and having fun is the important part, but seeing others (even though I'm not suppose to worry about them) get rewarded for doing nothing rustles my jimmies, ya know? It's sort the same with how people react to rich pan handlers and donating some cash to some homeless dude, begging, only to find out he owns a BMW. Afking for rewards is not a huge issue, but it shouldn't be dealt with so lightly...
@pink-geek-chic Yeah I think adding a timer to the ferry would be the easiest answer to this. There's no real reason to loiter there for more than a few moments.
Hello! Banning AFKers seems to be way too excessive, but banning people using Macros i'm all down for. Macros can make players in this game have a disadvantage dependant on what the macro is keyed to do. It can also keep you in-game hours on end and I disagree with that because this is how many players became Pirate Legend, I've seen it been done and practically not a supporter.
However you can always send in a support ticket and see what they say, yet I've never heard of anyone report someone using macros so it'll be great to know if action would be taken!

There are all sorts of reasons why someone might need to go AFK. Often I have friends who need to deal with something IRL and need to step away, so any auto-detection would unfairly punish them.
But I also know there are a few AFKs who are just gaming the system, so to speak, by rubberbanding to collect any rewards.
All they really need to do is have a way of reporting players in the actual game for being AFK for too long, if they are genuinely ruining gameplay for others. Rare can look into it and deem the necessary steps to take after that. If someone gets 3 strikes, they maybe get a suspension. With 3 suspensions leading to a ban.
Just the threat of a possible ban that way would be enough to deter that kind of behaviour, as long as the change is communicated in the game (maybe on one of the loading screens).
@mad-jack-ketch Here's the thing, I've tried to report these people under 'toxicity' before but the request page is broken for me. I'm not sure if it's the website itself or it's because I'm trying to attach an MP4 file as proof, but the 'submit' link doesn't work. I would click on it and it wouldn't do anything but turn the link unusable. Tried to at least 5 times already :/
@rabbyt3
There are a few ways you can report players, particularly if you know the gamertags - it can be via xbox or via Rare's Support page. The link on this article brings up a more up to date version of recent players for me, which is better than the xbox app on pc.

@katttruewalker That is some helpful advice, thank you, but I don't believe reporting them thru Xbox would work very well unless everybody chips in. There is no option to provide proof and the only thing that would make the report with Xbox impact more is if more people also report the same gamertag with the same issue. I honestly don't believe that a lot of people would take the time to report them, they might not even notice it or switch sessions without a care. But I do hope that a lot of people will realize what's going on and report anybody they see doing the afk macro dance.

Prove they are using a rubberband.
I'm of the opinion that AFK abusers are a plague upon this game. However, I will never support a kick feature, as the potential for vote-kick abuse far outweighs any benefit it might provide.
So I've been rolling the idea around in my head for a few weeks now, and here's what I've come up with: The Black Spot
From the Crew menu, you'd be able to vote to inflict the Black Spot on individual crew members, much like you would do to lock them in the brig. Unlike the brig, however, players can remove the Black Spot themselves by visiting the Crew menu and clicking on a button (one that, if clicked when you DON'T have the Black Spot, serves as a no-confirmation-leave-game button, so that any macro designed to circumvent the Black Spot will backfire)
What does the Black Spot do, you ask? Well, nothing... At first. Once you get the Black Spot, the game will notify you with an extremely hard-to-miss UI element. If you have the Black Spot for more than 10 minutes, you won't earn gold & rep from loot turn-ins, nor will you earn credit towards any commendations.I'll admit, it's not a perfect solution. It would still be possible to get paid by putting in 0 effort to the voyage, but you'd have to be pretty dedicated to so.
@deliciouspack Not a bad idea at all. The only issue is macros will probably get advanced enough to where they can detect if they have the black spot and do whatever is required to remove it.
In Runescape, bots were quickly able to adapt to do the random events that were designed to curtail cheating.
@mad-jack-ketch I like the signature thing you got going on there :) Maybe they'll add support for that one day.
