baffling podcast. lets explain the doubloon situation with some more detail without offering any actual additional info

  • so you guys tried to address the doubloon situation some more in the recent podcast

    what i was expecting
-the cost of the fomo doubloon sink items, even though they are all for the most boring overly crowded cosmetic slots in the game
-the actual cosmetics those fomo cosmetics have. all we get is a "they look cool" which is subjective and one would argue 90% of what the devs think is cool the players themselves dont.
-a break down of what items will no longer hold doubloon values. the reset only works if you are actually dealing with the root cause which is the amount of items and common nature of all of them.
-what items might be in the black market that day1 players might want or need?

    what we got?
-bilgerat weekenders mentioned, no new info
-fomo cosmetics called "cool" no visuals show as proof they are indeed cool.
-no mention of the cost of the fomo cosmetics, though a welcomed reveal that people taking part during the month of the fomo availability will be give these cosmetics when they hit doubloon milestones as time goes on in case they cant afford them by the time of removal. (assuming we even want them in the 1st place)
-blackmarket not really even mentioned aside from bringing back old cosmetics
-an admission that the real reason for the reset is they want new players to have to earn the old doubloon cosmetics similar to how day1 players had to work for them when they were originally released... im 50/50 on this. it makes sense but also kind of a flawed mindset in the end its all kind of relative?
-no mention of past adding back these old bilgerat cosmetics whats the future plans to make sure doubloons dont get out of control again? why even keep them in the game at all? you clearly cant balance 1 currency yet you have 2 youre trying to balance and failing so badly at both your solution was to delete 1. gold deletion coming next.
-no mention of the gold issue.

9 years into sea of thieves. players have been begging for cosmetic saving. meanwhile something 99% never asked for? our currency being deleted. i would accept it being removed from the game period. but deleting them to increase new players play time to look better on a spread sheet? meh...

the worst part of the doubloon reset to me is the lack of transparency. very minorly addressed in the podcast. you have done nothing but repeat past mistakes over and over. so it would stand to reason all current doubloon items will remain the same, bilgerat weekends are just a doubloon boost event. but the current methods of gaining doubloons seems unchanged which means the problem that caused this whole issue is still present? whats the future of doubloon items look like? you keep adding more and more items for gold. putting doubloon prices on new outpost cosmetics seem to never even be a consideration. a

In the end. You either have enough or not and rest becomes gold.

They don't give details like that in the podcast, so you kind of set yourself up for failure.

  • They probably still don't know the prices yet themselves. It'll happen when it happens. Until then, anything can change, so they probably don't want to make a definitive statement just yet, which is understandable.

  • An update on pricing... it's now been locked in and will be announced soon!
