expanded cooking (Stews that need sterring)

  • I think the game could really use more small things to kill time with on thip while traveling between islands or as my crew often does when someone stays back to guard the ship.

One of the thing i have been thinking of is:
It would be cool if as others have suggested the in game cooking would be expanded.

My suggestion is the adding of a big pot where you could add several ingredients to make a big batch of food.
A chiken or pork stew for example.

This would require gathering of meat, vegatables and maybe grog?

Cooking this would take about 10 minutes to cook and would require sterring on the stove a couple of time or it will burn, and this would allow for a finished stew that could make 5 portions or food items slots that would allow for 2-3 bites of food per portion.

I do also like the ideas of some food combinations giving small boosts like longer underwater breathing or something like that

  • We could even add a small market in the outposts that sell vegetables and spices that yeild low HP when uncooked but when used in stews give more.

As a real life chef i would love being able to cook up some good grubb for my crewmates

  • cool idea but not balanced

  • This would be so cool if different islands had different plants for ingredients and you can collect them to make some interesting foods etc.

  • @capt-soul-beard ohh yeah i like that

  • @aniysan why not suggest how to balance it? :)

  • I for one would love to see cooking expanded! At launch all we had were bananas! Look at all the food we have now! :) Being able to cook actual meals would be awesome :) I dont know how it would be unbalanced, do to it only giving health and anyone being able to cook?

  • @beatyourownmeat I think he meant the breathing underwater part. The health and portions I dont see any balancing issues with since it will require the gathering of resoures for. I honestly feel like the game needs a bit more small content that fill the empty spaces when we travel around the world. Just things to keep us a little busy :)

  • @picknickman I hear you! It's honestly an open world playground, so the more things we can do the better! Sometimes I'll spend hours just sitting on an island fishing and cooking :) it's quite relaxing

  • @picknickman The thing is, a crew could spend an hour cooking multiple stews and have a MASSIVE.. I mean MASSIVE advantage over the people who didn't have time to cook.

  • @aniysan I see your point.

But is this not kind of the same as if you spend an hour cooking fish you chought in the current game?
It would have to take gathering resources and a longer cook time and and adding the stirring feature would make it so that it still has a risk of burning.

It would take some balancing by the devs if implemented but I dont really see a massive balance issue with this as you can litteraly allready cook throphy fish that allows for 3 bites. Stew could also be found in barrels on sunken ships like alot of good food do now.

  • @aniysan and you would not be able to cook anything else on the boats stove at the same time.

  • @picknickman We already have insanely OP food like Meg meat, Kraken meat, Trophy meat, Pineapples, etc. Adding another OP food that takes a long time to make would throw the game out of balance even more than it already is.

  • @aniysan I believe that even if there are foods like med, kraken and pineapple, they are not OP since it takes time to collect them as with the idea @picknickman has about the stew. It won’t be more OP or even OP about it since it’s already in the game. The thing is that if you have to stir it and constantly watch over it and also buy and find all the ingredients it is balanced since it takes a lot of effort to make it.

  • @aniysan I hear your. But I don't see how any of those thing or the stews are op. If they can be looted and gathered like other food can, As well as taking longer time to cook and needing to have resources gather is the balancing in it self. And why shouldnt taking time to prepare not have its rewards. No stranger than if you spend time looting islands you will gain the advantage of more chain shots and curseballs?

Putting time into the game should have rewards in my personal opinion :)

Me and my crew always make sure to loot any sunken ships for food when we start out.
Even normal barrels in the water can drop better food right now.

  • Had a similar idea but it was mainly do a minigame to make the regular fish cook faster than just sit and wait. Either sit and wait for a while and do other things hoping not to forget or actively cook and do each item in a fraction of the time. Cooking through a bunch of meg meat just takes so long currently and its a dull mechanic. If you combine things to make something from a recipe then I think that should only be to give a large boost to hunters call rep and gold but not be some super pvp food that everyone has to then make every session to be competitive. Sell your gourmet dishes to the hunters call for greater rewards essentially.

  • @starquest I never wanted this to be a super PvP food im fine with it being on par with normal cooked food. I just thought it could be fun to have more options of things to do in order to keep busy on the ship during down time;)

  • Kinda like botw cooking. I like it.

  • @mferr11 exactly ;)
