PSA: Don't leave your loot on the island even, even during Captain battles because if you merge; you lose it. Put them in the rowboat instead, they go with you.

  • Now, I've never personally dealt with this but lesson learned the hard way today, I suppose. All loot goes directly to the ship or to the rowboat. I will not be leaving it on the island until we get it all, as I have seen most crews do.

This is a horrid idea, due to the server merging.

RIP 3 Ashen Villainous skulls during our active Captain Battle.

If we'd have had them in the rowboat, they would have went with the merge.

@Genuine-Heather I know you've been slighted by merges before. This ever happen to you? I know you've been locked out the fort vault before and also lost loot from skelly ships but what about during an active Captain battle?

Do you mean like OoS voyage captain battles? Yeah, there's nothing stopping a merge in that case. But I thought they'd fixed it so your loot wouldn't vanish if it was within X radius. Sounds like they missed something there. The fact is server migration is extremely buggy and you never really know what will happen. I haven't had as much bad luck with them lately, so I know they have made improvements. Seems like they still have some work to do, though. And I still hate getting migrated on basic principle.

Sounds like it! They were probably stashing them there or quickly loading everything to one spot to sell it fast. (don't do this for this exact reason)

I know a lot of people like to show off loot on islands and things but if you merge, it's all gone.

We were doing an Ashen Athena and that was our last island before the legend chest. We lost the last half, sold the first, from the merge.

We soldiered on but man I was not happy. Skellies died, I"ll tell you what.

Perhaps we were not close enough to the island or were too far from the skelly battle or something. We we parked on West side of Ruby and cannoned over to the East cliff area. That little bit just before that cannon can hit by the rock on the West side.

    RIP 3 Ashen Villain skulls.

No "wanda" it happens at the most inopportune time!

u missed it but fixed ;)

  • I think many of us have been wrong by the dreaded server merge. It is the most foul beast on the sea. I would prefer to be left alone even though my ship and crew were all alone.

  • monkey has never attcherly seen or been in a server merge so luckily ive not lost anything to it

  • Not really lost anything of major value during a server merge, thankfully. Although we did once have around 40 gunpowder kegs set up at an outpost for a bit of "fireworks" to end the night, all set up at optimal distance for a domino effect ending on the ship, and a server merge vanished half of them, so that was a bit annoying.

I used to have an issue where (on PC) after a server merge often I couldn't interact with anything and had to leave the game and rejoin my friends - but that seems to have been fixed recently (maybe).

  • happened to us as well... And we were just swimming towards a mermaid statue and it just disappeared!

I call this ghosting. Somehow your “physical” body is stuck somewhere, yet you’re still moving around invisible. You can’t interact with anything and nobody else can see you. All they see is your “physical” avatar walking in place somewhere. This usually resolves itself in a few minutes, if you wait it out.

Oh and it still happens sometimes.

  • @personalc0ffee I don't get why they just don't make every single spawned treasure persist. I doubt it really eats up that much server memory to keep track of the location and ID of each treasure that is currently populating the world. Then we would avoid this entire problem.

Right now sometimes merging makes it so you can't grab anything ship related for a few minutes. If you try, you're just immediately let go like the wheel, rigging, anchor, etc. It goes away on its own or if you respawn.

  • @personalc0ffee just out of curiosity, was your anchor down when they occurred?

  • @br0crastinat0r said in PSA: Don't leave your loot on the island even, even during Captain battles because if you merge; you lose it. Put them in the rowboat instead, they go with you.:

@personalc0ffee just out of curiosity, was your anchor down when they occurred?

I know where this is going and I have to put this to rest. Having your anchor down does not enable you to be merged and keeping it up does not prevent a merge. This is an urban myth. If the system is going to merge you, you're going to get merged.

You can be merged on an island, if the anchor is up, if people are climbing the ladder and if the anchor is down; it literally does not matter. If the system has found a place to put you for a merge after it's determined it is required; The player can not take or do actions to prevent a system merge, once it has begun. The only thing that can stop a merge, is the merging system itself and I"m pretty sure that doesn't happen.

Now, someone can absolutely correct me on this but I think the only time you will not be merged is if you have crew in open water and not on anything like a rowboat, an island, or the ship. I believe if someone is actively swimming in the water, it will not merge you if it is trying but you will be merged ASAP once conditions are met like if all crew return to the ship, for instance.

It's all tall tales and urban myths built on misinformation that you can stop or prevent a merge. You can not.

  • @personalc0ffee wasn’t trying to lite a fire under you. Just asking a simple question. Yes, no , and even an I don’t remember would have been just fine. Either way, moral of the story is embrace the rowboat I guess.

  • Teamed up last night to form a galleon crew. We did several gilded voyages. The foul beast raised its ugly head several times. We were careful and did not lose anything. Each time our ship raised up off the sea and started slowing turning as the bow raised up into the air. After the ship settled back down we could not moved for a couple minutes.

I still say stop the merging. It just interrupts playing and too much can go wrong. It appears to be worse since fixes were said to have been put into place. Just let everyone sail. We are not encountering enough ships to make it worth it. Can merge back to back and see no ships at all. When you do it is usually one or two at the most.

There were two ships in many hours that did try to steal our gilded spoils. We successfully merged them and their ship with the sea. The only time a merge is a good thing.

No, you are perfectly fine. I just see that misinformation a lot so I had to clear it up. The only way to get rid of misinformation is to correct it over time.

I've had it do that to me as well

Yes well when originally conceived it wasn't counted on to have so few ships on the seas and if the servers were packed up tight, it would work as intended. Unfortunately, this is not reality.

There were two ships in many hours that did try to steal our gilded spoils. We successfully merged them and their ship with the sea. The only time a merge is a good thing.

You merged away from an active ship? I was wondering if you could merge when being battled/chased by a player ship.

  • @PersonalC0ffee

Merging did not work properly when there were more ships. Works worse now with less players and ships. At this point should be focusing on letting what players want to play the game do so. Without all the bugs and issues trying to keep ships together as it does not matter enough as it’s intended purpose does not present any value most of the time.

No we did not merge when actively engaging with a ship. I was speaking in terms of sinking them as in “merged them with the sea”. Like I said two other ships in hours of playing and hours apart. I would be bothered if we were denied the chance to sink them.

A lot of players talk about sailing without risk on side of the argument or the other. Been that way for months the majority of the time. Risk is not from players, it is the merging. So, no merging does not work on many levels.

Saw more merges than things we should have seen. Hardly any players. No megs. No Karen. No fog. Skeleton ships bugged out a lot. Forts are popping at a good rate. Wish they had been that way more when it would have mattered more.

  • @x-crowheart-x Merging was broken for the longest time after launch but I don't disagree. It does a lot more harm than good for the players. It's all to keep up encounter rates but it is just not working.
